[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi Guys,

L1 - Unlimited Data, Upgrade Available, Note 2
L2 - Tiered Data, Upgrade Available, S3

I ordered a Note 5 online from Verizon using L2 Upgrade, it just arrived. I want to use it on L1 and Note 2 on L2

Do I just take out the Note 5 sim out (without turning Note 5 on, out of the box) and put L1 sim to the device ( after cutting it to nano size) and take out S3 sim and put it on Note 2 on L2?

OR

Do I activate the Note 5 with the sim it came with? Then after an hour put the L1 sim into it and put the new L2 sim to Note 2?

OR

Can I just activate the new phone with the new sim on L1 online? and just move L2 sim to Note2? So I dont have to cut nano sim or use adapters?
Please let me know.

Thanks!!!

Hi Notwist,

I am NO EXPERT on handling transfers from one line to another and UDP.
I don't want to give you any bad advice and jeopardize your UDP.

I'll see if I can read thru other's advice ( e.g. dusoccer10) and try to help.
I'd suggest not doing anything with the new device until we know for sure the process.

Best regards

Hi NoTwist,

I found this process from DuSoccer10 and think it may address your situation. Read it carefully to confirm it is the same scenario (other than an additional line being on the customer's acct).

Hope that helps. The Note5 looks to be an awesome device.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey all, been a lurker for awhile, but I have a bit of dilemma right now.

I'm on a plan with my parents right now that is the 700 nation wide plan.

L1 (mine) & L2: unlimited data (both have upgrades available)
L3: 2GB data.

They want to add a fourth line and break away to one of the new Verizon plans. The Verizon reps told us that they can break away and have their own plan, I can stay on the 700 plan, but reduce my minutes, and keep unlimited if I upgrade to a new phone at full price since I'm not switching plans, but just lowering my minutes.

I'm not sure I can trust the Verizon reps, but does this sound right? Could I upgrade my phone, L1, with the forever method (to get it cheaper) with L3 before they break away to new plan? I'm eyeing the Nexus 2015.

Thanks guys!

Edit: I'm looking to upgrade as soon as the new Nexus comes out, or something else, as my LG G2 is pretty unusable. 1/2 the touch screen doesn't even work anymore =/

Going to bump this, any help is appreciated.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So i've been reading past 20 pages of this thread and i'm little confused. So if this has been asked before i do apologize in advance. Here is my scenario:

Line 1 - Nexus 6 (mine) - UDP - No upgrade available
Line 2 - Iphone 6(wife) - TDP - 2gb Loyalty plan - No upgrade available
Line 3 - Basic Phone(In laws) - Upgrade available
Line 4 - Basic Phone (mom's phone) - No upgrade available

I would like to use Line 3's upgrade and transfer it Line 2 and get Iphone 6S Plus without getting stuck with data plan for Line 3 for 2 years.

So before i start pre-ordering this tomorrow. I would like to be on the same page.

1. Transfer Line 3 to Line 2. Then order the phone.
2. Once the phone arrives. I take the sim card out and destroy it.
3. Then pop in my Nexus 6 sim into Iphone 6S.
4. Eventually the new contract i have will fall off (as long as i don't active sim card that came with the phone) and not get stuck with data plan for 2 years.

Do i have this correct? If not please advise. Thank you

You can't transfer a basic phone upgrade to a smartphone. You would need to directly order the phone on the basic line. You would then not activate it/not turn it on. Take the SIM out and destroy it. Place you nexus 6 sim in the phone. The data plan will not activate on the basic line. However if you *228 or change the basic line it will probably activate that 2 year data requirement.

Thank you. So once i destroy that sim card that comes with the phone and put my nexus sim card into the new phone. I don't press *228 on new phone or the basic phone that my in laws has? Little confused on which device I don't press *228. Sorry for newb questions. Just don't want to get stuck with 2 years of data plan.

Thank you once again.

You don't dial it from the basic line. *228 is the command to provision a basic line. You should never dial it from a 4g LTE phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It looks like iPhone 6s is NOT eligible for unlimited data plans, even if you are upgrading at full retail price. Every other phone is okay except iPhone 6s models. I tried the preorder and it seems like there is no solution.

The only possible method is to try to upgrade a dumb phone line while paying full retail, and then transfer your UDP SIM into the upgraded dumb phone. Can anyone confirm this?

Verizon is really trying to remove those unlimited data plans.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Looks like the transfer upgrade method is dead now.

Verizon no longer allows nationwide plans to use 2-year contract upgrades on their website (only through third parties).

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Theoretically we can still go to a store like a Target or Walmart and have them actually do the update on that line.

Then when you get home, you can switch the SIM cards. That's what I might be doing.

How did you find this info out? Just last night it looked like I was able to transfer my upgrade when I checked my account.

I think it's only on the new iPhone's. I don't think it's dead but while there's a mad rush to pre-order the new phones, everyone will be using the payment plans instead of 2-year contracts.

I think after the phones are out for a little bit, the two year option will slowly return.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I tried to pre-order the note 5 and I couldn't get it to go thru. But I was able to do it as soon as the phone was in store.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everyone. I'm looking to do two things with my Verizon account at the moment and was hoping you could help. Here is my situation:

Line 1 (me) - iPhone 5, unlimited data - Upgrade available
Line 2 (wife) - Basic line - Upgrade available

I'd like to upgrade my line to an iPhone 6s while keeping unlimited data. I'd also like to give my wife my iPhone 5 and upgrade her line to a smartphone line. Obviously she'll have to be on a tiered line.

Could I upgrade my phone to a 6s through Best Buy and swap the SIM to keep my unlimited data? If so, how would I go about upgrading my wife's line to a smartphone line on my current iPhone 5?

Thanks for the help!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi,

Thanks in advance for all help. I tried reading some of the replies but I'm confused, someone please educate me.

I have

1 udp = upgrade avail
2 udp = upgrade avail
3 dummy line = upgrade avail

I want to keep my udp on lines 1 & 2. How can I work the various loopholes best buy or verizon to ensure i get the 2 128gb iphones for the $399 subsidized price? thanks again!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Please help -

I have upgrades available for ALL lines and would like to keep unlimited data for lines 1 & 4.

L1 UDP HTC One®
L2 TDP DROID RAZR MAXX by MotorolaS6
L3 Basic LG Octane™
L4 UDP Samsung Galaxy S4
L5 Basic LG Octane™

Here's what I'd like to do:

L1 -> upgrade to GalaxyS6 or edge (keep UDP)
L2 -> upgrade to new smartphone soon, but not urgent (can wait.. low priority)
L3 -> upgrade from basic to TDP - likely a GS6
L4 -> upgrade to GalaxyS6 or edge (keep UDP)
L5 -> upgrade to another basic phone

Note, L1 use to have a GS4 so I still have that sim card avail if that helps.

Given the needs above, please let me know the best order of steps to take to make this all possible.
Also, what's the best place to get the upgrades for the price now, costco, verizon, best buy, amazon? How much will it be? Still have to pay activation fees or anything?

Thank you in advance for all your help with this!! I know it's a lot.

Hopefully i did this right. I tried transferring my flip phone credit to tired line but today for some reason it wont let me do it. it was giving me only one option which is to pay $32.25 per month option. Then i tried upgrading flip phone and it had an option for 2 year subsidized plan. so once i get the Iphone 6s plus. I take out sim card and trash it. Then use my Unlimited data sim card and put it in new phone. Will i still get stuck with 2 years with data fee if i don't active the sim card? Also i did this transaction online with verizonwireless.com if that helps. Thanks

Now that I've been reading a bit more, it seems that my solution could possibly be simpler. Could I upgrade my wife's line to the iPhone 6s then simply swap sim cards between my current iPhone 5 and iPhone 6s? Would that preserve unlimited data on my current line while keeping her on the tiered plan? Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, i have a quick question, I'm trying to upgrade my phone through BB.
When i choose the phone it asking me for my verizon number, zip, social and password.
Then later confirming the payment options it asking me again to verify my verizon account with the number, social, zip and password.
Does it normally asked you to verify twice?

Thank
