[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You can upgrade the other line as a pending activation will not affect it. A pending activation only effects plan/line changes like number of minutes, adding mobile hotspot, etc...

Hey dusoccer10 - I have a slightly unique situation and would greatly appreciate your advice! Can you help? I sent you a private message. Thanks in advance!!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'd just like to make sure I'm doing everything right here:

Line 1 (me) - iPhone 5, unlimited data - Upgrade available
Line 2 (wife) - Basic line - Upgrade available

I want to upgrade my phone to the 6s, keep unlimited data, and move the iPhone 5 to my wife's line (with the possibility of upgrading it at a later date, if possible).

Could I: Upgrade my wife's phone to the 6s, swap our SIM cards, and call it a day? If I want to upgrade her phone in the future could I transfer my upgrade to her line?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I only have:
Line 1 with UDP (upgrade available) and Line 2 with basic phone.

I have tried to transfer my upgrade to Line 2 @ BestBuy.com and have been unable to do so.

Under current rules what is the best way to upgrade Line 1 (Am I missing something about transferring an upgrade to Line 2?).

Thanks in advance!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Whats the safest way of getting a new SIM card and keeping unlimited
I went to a corporate store and did not have any issues. I just explained what I needed. He said he did not know if the system would allow it. It allowed it and showed me the screen with unlimited data before completing the order.

I would just do that. Order the phone on her line, and swap Sims. She will be committed for data for 2 years. When you want to use your upgrade you can then just transfer it to her line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So it looks like Verizon updated/changed their iconic portal? (preorder.verizonwireless.com)
I'm trying to buy a device without a contract.. (I am not with Verizon I am buying a gift)
I click New Individual -> Type in Zip Code -> Device Only
However, once I click Device Only I don't see any devices to choose from.. All I see are the Continue buttons and I clicked those but it keeps telling me to choose a device. Is anyone else having this problem? I didn't have this problem before they changed the site. :(

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello all,
After 3 years of being very content with my Note 2 and my UDP, my Note 2 finally decided it had lived long enough and died. I've ordered a new Note 5 and paid full price for it. After reading as much of the 417 pages here as possible, I just want to confirm the process to keep my UDP. Am I correct thinking that since I paid full price, off contract, that I don't need to swap sim cards? Do I just fire it up when it arrives and log in with my google account to activate it? Or do I need to call Verizon? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Correct, Be sure to turn off your current phone first.

But if you paid full price you can just put the new SIM into the Note5 and power up. There should not be any other activation steps. But if you run into any trouble simply follow any included activations steps sent along with the phone.

You are in the clear and can safely call VZW if you have any troubles and keep your UDP.
Hope you enjoy that Note5 it looks amazing.

New phone should be here today. If I use the new SIM that comes with the phone, I need to call Verizon to activate my number on the new phone, correct? Can I activate it through the web site without problems cropping up? Anything I need to be careful with while talking to them? Or am I good to go since I paid full price for the phone? And if I cut down the SIM from my old note 2 and used that instead of the new SIM, I don't have to call Verizon to activate my number, right? Just trying to figure what will be the least amount of hassle. Thanks in advance.

I think it's only on the new iPhone's. I don't think it's dead but while there's a mad rush to pre-order the new phones, everyone will be using the payment plans instead of 2-year contracts.

I think after the phones are out for a little bit, the two year option will slowly return.

I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep. I have the following situation.

Line 1 UDP; upgrade available
Line 2 TDP: upgrade 12/16

Just out of curiosity, I asked if a transfer of upgrade was possible... moving my line 1 upgrade to line 2. His response was no.. that is not possible. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I've been away from the thread for awhile and was hoping to use the method of transfering my Line 1 upgrade to LIne 2(TDP), purchase the phone I want, activate it on the TDP line, reactivate the original LIne 2 phone back onto Line 2; then activate the new phone on my Line 1(UDP).. Just wondering if anyone has done this recently and if it is still possible?

As far as I know you should be fine - however, transferring upgrades has been hit or miss.
Here is my situation:
Nationwide TLK & TXT 700 shared
L1 UDP upgrade available
L2 TDP upgrade available (10/16/15)
On 9/14 I transferred an upgrade from L1 to L2 through the Comcast / Verizon iconic portal and pre-orded an iPhone 6s at the subsidized price.
On 9/18 charges went through as the phone was "shipped" and extended my UDP contract for 2 years
Phone is scheduled for delivery on Friday. I should be able to complete the 4ever method and will have to wait and see if I receive a $50 gift card.
As the OP says - avoid talking to Verizon CSR.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi just a quick question.

my husband wants to upgrade his phone we both still have unlimited data and have been able to upgrade by using the dummy lines and upgrade between our phones not loosing our unlimited, does this still work? We have family share plan.

Edit: im aware how the old loophole worked just curious if we can still do that?

When the new phone (which you paid full price on) arrives it will arrive with instructions for activation. You can switch devices most simply by following those directions. Make sure your current phone is powered off while you do so.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So i received an email today from Verizon notifying me that my employee discount will be changing as of October 30th. I was going to preorder the Iphone 6s today until i saw this email. Should i wait until after Oct 30th to order it to avoid the chance of a rep seeing a pending activation? Or just go along and upgrade anyway.

My wife and I have the same plans you do. I am L1. I don't get why you need to transfer update available from L1 to L2 to purchase a new subsidized phone and when you do get it how do you get the subsidized phone to extend the UDP instead of the TDP. I always just pay full price for my UDP plan but if I can save a buck this way I'd like to understand it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This is my plan:
Line 1: UDP no upgrade (my line)
Line 2: TDP no upgrade - smart phone
Line 3: UDP: Upgrade - smart phone
Line 4: TDP no upgrade - smart phone
Line 5: Basic phone no upgrade.

I would like to swtich the upgrade from Line 3 to line 4. Then I would like to transfer the phone to Line 1. I would like to do this in Best Buy. The rep told me if I use and upgrade on my line and use that phone on my UDP plan that Verizon would take away my UDP. I have to have UDP I dont have internet at home, unable to get it where I live. Only have dishnet and its horrible. He said Verizon closed the loophole a few months ago...Thoughts??

Paying full price is the surefire way of holding on to your ULD if that is what is most important to you. However, there are those of us who don't like paying full price for a phone and don't want to lose our ULD either. There is always the risk of losing our UDP, but as long as you are comfortable not involving a Verizon CSR and are comfortable following instructions, then the loopholes for subsidized pricing on a UDP are still working for some even after Verizon stopped offering subsidized pricing to new customers. This blog has been great in helping me understand the process. dusoccer10 was awesome, but I think I remember him saying he was heading "underground" for a while until the iPhone update craze subsided. Page back and read some of his posts - he explains it well.
Another extremely helpful blog is the one over on Slickdeals:
Verizon - How to Use a Subsidized Upgrade and Keep Your Unlimited Data Plan Or Avoid A 2 year Data Plan on a Nationwide Basic Line - Slickdeals.net
Read the whole original post and you will begin to understand the reasons for transferring an upgrade.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Upgrade is finally available on my crippled Note 3 (lollipop issues)! So my scenario is...

Line 1: UDP, Note 3
Line 2: TDP, Iphone6
Line 3: TDP, Iphone6+
Line 4: TDP, Galaxy S4

I was going to go bestbuy and xfer upgrade from line 1 to line 2, etc. bestbuy site won't let me do the xfer. Quick research seems like my nationwide text and talk plan might be the issue?

Anyway, figured I can do it on verizon instead, just want to check my understanding.

1. Xfer upgrade
2. Order Note 5 on line 2 and then activate it.
3. Then wait an hour, use it etc.
4. activate the new note 5 on line 1 and put the iphone back on line 2

Just want to make sure that will work and that I don't have to cut the sim down and do it the other way.

Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This whole thread seems to be all questions with no answers.

If you buy a new edge plus there aren't any discounts on any kind of plan are there?

What are talking about? They're tons of answers. People do ask the same questions all the time.

What plan are you on. The only discount they have right now is the FALLPROMO. $200 off a Note 5, S6+ and the turbo. You also get $200 for trading in a good working phone.
