[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I know from doing this in the past that when you transfer an upgrade on Best Buy that the line with the upgrade gets the new contract date (which is what I want since they are increasing the UDP on Nov 15th).

I think a good plan is to buy a phone to lock in the lower UDP rate and just sell the phone. I think selling the iPhone would be the easiest but I'm not sure if there will be an issue when the buyer activates the phone. Is there anything that could go wrong, as long as I destroy all the sims that some with the iPhone?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

1. Turbo 2 arrives, comes with Nano SIM, do not destroy. Give phone to my sister, have her activate it on Line 3.
2. Leave new phone with new SIM activated for at least one hour.
3. (Confused here.) Now what? Have my sister reactivate her Samsung?
4. Once the Turbo 2 is deactivated off Line 3 (how), then what do I do with the Turbo 2? Bring it into store?
5. What do I say to the people in store? Do I say, I want to activate the Turbo 2 on my line? How do I make sure I keep my UDP? What if they try to take away my UDP?
6. I had thought I was suppose to trim down my Micro SIM, is this incorrect?
Edit: I also engraved my name on the back of the Turbo 2 ... will this be a problem?
Edit 2: Can you please elaborate on how I will activate in-store? Or do I shave my Micro SIM down and shove it into the Turbo 2?

dusoccer10 can you please help confirm I have the steps correct above? Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

She has a Samsung Galaxy S5. And my contract end date is still Month-to-Month. And the Turbo 2 doesn't seem to have shipped. Ahhhhh.

dusoccer10 can you please advise me on the steps I need to take when the Turbo 2 arrives? Please? Thanks!

Just have some patience as this will work. All you need to do is the following:

1.) Since you moved the upgrade to your sister's line, when the phone arrives just follow the activation instructions that come with the phone. The SIM cards are different between the 3 phones in play here, but that is ok. The Droid Turbo 2's nano SIM is already coded to your sister's line. That's why it is ok to use and activate it.
2.) Once you activate the Turbo 2, test the phone to make sure calls, texts, and data all work. Make sure you wait at least an hour as this will give Verizon's system a chance to update.
3.) After an hour, you need to log into My Verizon online. On the main page, scroll down to My devices and select "activate/switch device"
4.) Choose your sister's line.
5.) Select activate device and activating a device that has been used on this account before
6.) Just follow the rest of the directions to reactivate the S5 use the SIM that is already in the S5.

After these 6 steps, you'll have activated the Droid Turbo 2 and reactivated the S5. Now, it's time to move the Turbo 2 onto your line:

7.) Go back to "activate or switch device" and select your line
8.) Select activate a device that has never been on the account before and enter one of the bar code numbers from the box of the Turbo 2.
9.) Follow the rest of the directions to get the Turbo 2 onto your line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

That's strange, but give it a little bit of time. You might need to borrow your wife's current SIM, but I would be surprised if you plan doesn't extend within the next 48 hours.

Last time I did the transfer my contact never went to a 2-year, which at the time it was great, knowing I had another transfer available. Now I'm going to use my transfer in hopes to get on another two year contract. I'm worried they aren't changing our contracts (especially now) so that we get stuck with the added 20 bucks.

9.) Follow the rest of the directions to get the Turbo 2 onto your line.

Thank you thank you for listing out the steps again. I appreciate it! Step 9 worries me, that's why it's quoted. I will report back once I am past Step 9!

Update: My Turbo 2 hasn't even shipped yet, I ordered it yesterday, chose Next Day by 8 PM :( . I called them but they said I'll have to wait because it technically can ship today and arrive tomorrow by 8 PM. Sigh.

Update 2: So Verizon says my Turbo 2 won't arrive until Monday :( Sigh.

I give you guys credit for gaming the system. I have neither the nerve nor the patience. I'm not damning with faint praise. I mean what I said. You earn the lower prices for figuring all this out and getting it just right.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does ordering via apple.com or verizon.com and switching new sim for old sim work to preserve udp? Or do I have to transfer my upgrade from my udp line to my basic line and do it that way? Thanks.

Ordered my iphone last night, today my contract (on my UDP line that I stole the upgrade from) shows it expires in 2017!

Success! Thank you VZW, I will keep my $20 a month.

Thank you all for your help. Wish me good luck with a price on Swappa

I don't get this one at all. I thought you had to wait for it to come the discard sim put in your sim or get a new sim. How can you apply to udp before it even comes?

The contract on his UDP line was extended by transferring the upgrade from his UDP line to his other line and making an order. You don't need to "apply".

so he trabsferred upgrade to other nunber then why isnt upgrade iphone showing up on the other number until he switches jt back to udp?

From my android UDP line I transferred my eligible upgrade to my wife's nationwide talk shared plan (really old) line. She has the 2GB data feature pack add on. Her number used my upgrade to order a new iphone, which then after it shipped caused my contract to extend 2 years.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It was in HER number yet it extended YOUR plan and the phone is on your line despite ordering from her line? Normally folks have to move a sim or something. I don't see why an upgrade of her phone affects your line. I have the exact situation u do. NW 500 for me and wife. In am udp with upgrade. She is 2gb no upgrade (still 2 years left new iphone).

You're saying I order a N5 from Her line after transfer upgrade from my line to hers and the phone goes on MY line all by itself?

It's quite simple if you don't let it become complicated by thinking about it too hard.

1. Since the upgrade that was used came from the UDP line, despite being transferred to the TDP line, the UDP line's contract is extended.

2. Since he, and you, are using a TDP line to make the purchase you can simply activate the new phone on the TDP line. Make a few calls, send a few texts, and then switch the SIM cards between it and the UDP phone. Then the new phone will be on the UDP line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The more I read the more I get confused. I have line one UDP under contract line two UDP with upgrade available and a basic line upgrade available. Would I transfer upgrade from line two to line three then upgrade line three and that extends the contract on line two? And then don't Activate the new sim card?

Me too! Contract End: 10/31/2017!! But that's half the battle, I have yet to receive my phone and activate it on my line! Thanks so far for the help and support!

I can confirm that if you transfer an upgrade from a UDP line to another line then use this recently transferred upgrade, it will extend the UDP line contract. I literally just verified this on my own account. It will take a bit over 48 hours, but it works.

However, I cannot yet confirm how to get a new phone onto my UDP line. I'm just afraid. When the phone arrives, I am suppose to activate the phone on my Line 3 which is my sister's phone, the included Nano SIM will be already programmed as her device. I am or she is suppose to activate and pretend to use it for at least one hour and/or until VZW recognizes that's her "new" device. Then, she will switch back to her "old" device which renders the "new" phone as an orphan which I will then adopt onto my UDP line. This last part worries me. I am uncertain about the steps to take to activate the new phone onto my UDP line. What will happen when I try to?

I understand that method but the poster said his udp had been extended 2 years before he even switched the sims or activated on wifes line. That was the part I didn't get. I do understand what you are saying. I just didn't know my udp plan would be extended before the sim switch.

Now can your described procedure be done entirely through vzw online or must use best buy?

Now by activate new phone on her line I put sim from her iphone in it. Now iphone has no home so her line has 2 subsidized phones on it. Now make a few calls. She has no text plan. I can cruise the internet. Check her my verizon to see new phone listed. Now take sim out of new phone put back in iphone put sim from my phone into new N5....except I have wring sized sim. Argh off to vzw premium retailer to ask for sim.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can someone remind me of transferring an upgrade to a non udp line via best buy.? I haven't done it in a while. Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just to clarify

I have 5 lines

4 with udp. One with an upgrade available
1 basic phone.

I have a subaccount with two udp lines. One with upgrade available.

I want to transfer the available udp upgrade to the basic line via best buy (I did this myself via best buy a while ago but don't remember the steps) can someone help me out ?

And is it possible to transfer the upgrade of the udp line who has an upgrade on the subaccount to the basic line on main account and do the same thing? Or do I have to move the basic line to the subaccount first and do the same as my first scenario? Thanks.
