[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When I do the transfer of upgrade via Verizon's website I use my old udp sim not the new one when I activate the new phone correct? Thanks!

That is correct. The process is still the same whether you use Best Buy or Verizon. Just use your old SIM to activate the new smartphone directly onto the unlimited line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm curious as to why I couldn't simply go in and do the first part of this in store? I.e. transfer the upgrade from UDP to TDP, purchase new phone and activate it on the TDP and leave store. Wait an hour and once home simply do a switch device on the TDP back to old phone and then switch device again to put new phone on UDP line.

I understand the chance that they (BB) and their typically untrained people could mess things up. But if they're competent then I don't see why this wouldn't work and I could have the new phone today instead of waiting.

Because reps are trained to prohibit this type of transaction. Some are known to manually force the plan change and get rid of the unlimited plan. If you look through this thread, it is fairly common to see people hear things from reps that we know is not true.

Of course, this is a YMMV situation. You can always try, but no promises you will be allowed to do it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I totally understand. It's a better safe than sorry process at this point, it just seems like there shouldn't be any reason to do the same in the store vs. doing it online as it's the same thing system wise. I'll probably order through BB w/ home delivery (only takes a day), then activate new phone on the TDP line, wait the hour and start moving things around for the first run. I'll then do another upgrade transfer to the same TDP line and order a 2nd one repeating the whole process. Should be able to do it all within a week and get the UDP lines on a 2 yr. contract.

Thanks for the input dusoccer10!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

1.) I hope you are doing this online
2.) Make sure to make them two separate orders
3.) You should go on contract once the phones ship
4.) Destroy SIMs as soon as they arrive
5.) Profit!

Yes, it was Bestbuy.com...

Also, Best Buy won't allow you to order multiple cell phones on one order (I tried, but thankfully it failed.) I had to complete one order than order again.

Also, I just logged on to my account, and it says that BOTH MY LINES will expire 11/02/2017! So I am on Contract, unless I cancel my order. My Data bars also say unlimited! The only thing I have to do now is destroy the SIMs when they arrive and then sell iPhones via Swappa.

I will let you and everyone know (presumably in about a month) if I am in the clear, though by following the instructions, I will be (I was that guy two years ago in your position in this very thread...when the Note 3 came out.)

Now I have a different dilemma. I need I have a ZTE 890 Jetpack that uses a full SIM. I tried using the Best Buy Method to just upgrade to anything, and Best Buy won't let me. I called Verizon, and the Verizon rep told me that if I upgrade I'd lose my unlimited...(lol...she was a sweetheart.) I think my only hope is to find a phone that utilizes a full-size SIM, and upgrade that, but where do I find a phone with a full size SIM? I am reaching out to my coworkers to see if someone has one (this is a happy Verizon shop...) but I think I'm gonna end up paying the $20 more for the Jetpack...

Should I just find a used Jetpack that uses a nano SIM and find a VAR that will just transfer it with no bull?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, so now I have upgrades available on all 4 lines (not sure how that worked out) but bb.com won't let me just upgrade my UDP line - says that verizon won't allow them to make this change.) so can I just upgrade my line on VZW.com and switch sims - or is that going to flag someone if I try to do it on vzw site without the transfer upgrade?

Thank you for all of your help!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, new question..wife is tdp with no upgrade and almost 2 years left on contract due to subsidized iphone 6.
Now I use BB method.

1 transfer upgrade from my udp to her tdp. How?

2. I am still in a udp until 10/2016 with an upgrade available. Is this a problem?

3 I order a new Note 5 for her tdp from bb online using my upgrade previously transfered to her line.

4 phone arrives I put her iphon 6plus sim into n5
Is her sim compatible with n5?

Since she is still only months from subsidized iphone 6plus purchase when n5 is activated won't VZW demand full payment for her Iphone 6 plus now unactivated anywhere?

5 use her Note 5 for an hour

6 put sim back in her 6 plus

7 go to a var and ask for micro sim for my udp line.
What should I say?

Any issues? I'm especially worried vzw will be pissed new subsidized iphone in limbo temporarily.

I called vzw on an unrelated matter and asked if I could transfer my upgrade to my wife's line. He said I could do that online but I would then immediately lose udp.

Somebody posted here how they could get the loyalty max 8gb plus free hotspot plan for $40. When i checked for me it is $50. I wonder why? I asked the vzw guy and he claimed it has been $50 since August.

Does ordering through bestbuy.com ask you to 'keep existing plan'? Because it didn't for me when I ordered a htc m9.

How long after ordering via bestbuy.com did your plan change? I just placed an order now and it's in the process of being fulfilled.

Definitely upgrade the Jetpack line. Remember that your contract is extended when the phone ships and not when it is activated. Therefore, you could upgrade the line and just sell the phone (after destroying the SIM that ships with it).

You can't use Verizon that way as you'll lose unlimited. This method only works through 3rd party retailers.

You have to transfer the upgrade via verizon.com and then use the sim of the udp line and never activating it on the non udp line especially if it's a basic line as it will make it a tiered line correct?

Verizon won't care about the subsidized iPhone not being used as the price is already incorporated into your plan. You are paying for the phone whether you use it or not.

As for the rest of your steps, everything is correct. To transfer the upgrade to her line, put her phone number in Best Buy's upgrade checker. The iPhone and Note 5 use the same sim sizes, so you'll just swap back and forth.

Doing the bestbuy method does it ever bring you to a screen to keep existing plan? It didn't for me

Not per say but when you get to the page where it says "recurring charges" there's a little tab you click that has a drop down that says "keep existing plan". After you submit the final order it says on the confirmation sheet "keep existing plan".

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So is there a way for me to get this done? do i have time? i could upgrade the basic - but then I'm assuming I'll have to wait for the pending to fall off before I can transfer my UDP upgrade to the basic line again. Thank you!

Does this drop down box have more options than keep existing plan? I ask because I didn't see this drop down box and went through with the order. Should I cancel my order and reorder it later? Thanks
