[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

No, upgrade is available via device payment plan only while keeping UDP.

I have been helped by this forum in the past and am hoping to get help again ( the slickdeal site is way too confusing).

I was unable to upgrade my phone prior to the Verizon changes in November. My UDP has been increased by $20/month and is month to month ( and so is eligible for an upgrade).
There are conflicting answers as to whether or not one may use an upgrade directly on a UDP line to get a subsidized phone without losing UDP ( or if the only way to upgrade is via device payment plan).
If it is not possible to directly upgrade the UDP line, is it still possible to transfer an upgrade to a TDP line, activate phone , deactivate phone, and then activate the subsidized phone on the UDP line without loosing the UDP ?
Can someone please definitively answer this question ?

The only way to upgrade on the UDP line is device payments and still keep UDP.

You should be able to use DPP on your UDP line without losing UDP.

The only way to upgrade on the UDP line is device payments and still keep UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Good day to all of you experts,
Had a couple of simple questions for you.

1. Can one switch sims between phones on the same account (essentially switching phones on the same account) without having to notify Verizon?
From what I understand, the data plan & phone number are tied to the SIM and not to the phone.

2.When you get a SIM card from a Verizon Store, is it programmed with your data plan and phone number already?

The reason for asking the above 2 questions is that I recently purchased a USED S6edge from Craigslist and I currently have a S3 with UDP on it.
So I can't swap SIMs between the old S3 on my UDP and the recently purchased S6.
I went to Verizon store and they said they can activate the recently purchased S6 without affecting my UDP . They took the S6 to the back and when they came back they said that they had put a new SIM in it but couldn't activate the phone without affecting my UDP. They said activation of the S6 could only be done via the Verizon Phone Support and the store doesn't have access to the legacy UDP codes.
I thought since my daughter has a apple 6S with a Nano SIM on a TDP on the same account, why don't I insert her SIM card in the S6 and activate it on our account. Once the S6 is activated I can then insert the SIM Verizon gave me (supposedly tied to my UDP) in the S6. Have my daughter insert her SIM back in her apple 6S.
Everyone happy and no chance of my UDP being affected.
By the way neither of the plans have an upgrade available which from what I have read is unimportant since the upgrade route is mute anyway
Am I overthinking this too much??
Should I just contact the Verizon Customer Service and have them activate the S6 with the SIM Verizon Store put in it?
Any recommendations or suggestions are much appreciated in advance.

Thanks

Question for the experts. Hopefully someone has an answer.

Here is my situation. I am on the legacy Family Share plan 700 min/unlimted Text with 3 lines L1 LGG3 UDP L2 Iphone 6 UDP L3 S4 TDP (2GB).
I'm going to need to add a 4th line soon and trying to see what is my best option. Is it possible to break off L3 TDP with the new line and put them both on shared data plan say 6GB? I'm trying to get those two lines more data without losing the UDP on the two other lines. The next jump from 2GB is 5 GB for $20 more a month but then i'd need 2x that for both phones so looking at $70 more a month just for data.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have udp and got the one year contract extension offered last year. Since my contract is in effect again I did not get the 20 dollar increase.

If I buy a new note 5 from vzw on payment plan will I then get stuck with 20 dollar plan increase?

If I pay cash for a new note 5 at vzw will I get stuck with the 20 dollar increase?

Thanks.

You can use the device payment plan. Or you can use your subsidized upgrade and sell the subsidized phone. You can't use the subsidized phone on the UDP line at all if the upgrade was originally from the UDP line, or you will lose unlimited. This is a change since Nov. If the upgrade is from a different line you can use the subsidized phone without a problem.

Going back on contract won't get rid of the extra charge, or at least it hasn't so far for people on Slickdeals. I sold the subsidized phone on swappa and am using the money for my new one.

So if you have a UDP off-contract with the $20 increase, using your upgrade via transfer and renewing your contract won't get rid of the $20 increase?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The issue I described below is different from the answer above.

]I have udp and got the one year contract extension offered last year. Since my contract is in effect again I did not get the 20 dollar increase. This contract extension did not involve the best buy plan. I bought nothing. I simply called vzw and got a one year extension on my udp contract.

If I buy a new note 5 from vzw on payment plan will I then get stuck with 20 dollar plan increase?

If I pay cash for a new note 5 at vzw will I get stuck with the 20 dollar increase?

Thanks.

I thought DPP is only available IF you have the $20 increase.

Last year there was a promotion (no purchase involved) to keep udp and extend the contract for 1 year and you also got additional free minutes and text messages for that one year.

I did that. I have received bills since and no $20 increase for me. Few were aware of the promotion however it was discussed earlier in the thread. We weren't sure it would protect us against 20 dollar increase byt it did. Next October I will get the increase like everyone else. In the meantime I wondered if I buy a new phone full price will it cause me to lose my promotion and have to add the $20 a month?

The last I looked at the Slickdeals thread, that is what everyone is reporting. Once the increase was added, no getting rid of it. That may change of course.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I don't even know what ddp is! My question is whether I will get a 20 dollar increase if I buy a new phone at full price?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Dpp=device payment plan

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so I cannot use use ddp apparently.

Can I pay full price for new phone and not get the 20 dollars added? I do not pay it now cuz I have 9 months left in udp contract described before.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I shared how I was able to extend my udp contract and avoid the $20 increase using the 100min and 100text promo.. and it blew up!

I don't know what that means.
Mine occurred successfully in October . I do not have the 20 dollar up charge . I am asking if buying a new phone full price and putting this on the line will screw it up. It is entirely possible nobody has tried since months ago they could still do the best buy plan. At that time I did not want a new phone. Reps are useless. They yes you to death then if your bill goes up there is nobody to complain to who cares.

I note you have a business plan so that may be different anyway.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So you are saying that if a TDP line has an upgrade it can be used to buy a subsidized phone, activate it, deactivate it, give it to a UDP line for use and NOT lose UDP ( like it used to work in the good old days)? I thought that this thread was saying that a subsidized phone ( no matter how it was obtained) if used on a UDP, then UDP would be lost. The thread seemed to be saying that the phone itself was "toxic" to UDP lines if subsidized. Can you clarify

Thanks
