[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Quick Question: I am on my parents plan, myself and my two brothers have unlimited data plans, and my parents have basic lines. My parents want to upgrade to a smartphone and doing so will change our plan to one of the tiered data ones.

How can my brothers and I save our unlimited data? Will we lose it when our parents are forced to pick a new plan for their phones?
You can move your parents to tiered data without affecting your unlimited data lines

Had a question -

I have a Verizon Unlimited Data plan on one line on my account. I currently use it on a iPhone 5. Could I take that SIM card out and use it strictly in a MiFi device and it would work and I wouldn't lose my unlimited?

If you could advise me on my one line I would REALLY appreciate it!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've read through a lot of the threads and am still confused as to my situation. I apologize if this was already posted by someone else. How I can upgrade and get a subsidized iPhone 6S while keeping unlimited data?

Line #1 (my line) - iPhone 4S, unlimited, upgrade eligible
Line #2 - iPhone 5S, 2 GB, upgrade eligible
Line #3 - Basic phone, upgrade eligible

I want to upgrade Line #1 to a new iPhone 6S. I'm told the 4S and 6S SIM cards are different but the 5S and 6S are the same. Should I swap the 4S and 5S and THEN upgrade Line #2 to a new 6S and then swap the SIM cards for the 5S and 6S so that Line #1 ends up with the 6S? Would this work? If not, what is the best way to go about this?

I know I can't utilize the Line #3 upgrade as that would force that line into a Smartphone.

Yes

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

thanks for the reply Tuff....after reading more last night it seems i'm about 2-3 weeks too late. i didn't realize about the transfer as I've never done one b4.

well i had already ordered the v10 through best buy as they have them on sale for 50! if i can find a g4 on craigslist for L1....would Verizon have an issue with just swapping the phones to the other line?

Should not have a problem using a phone off Craigslist. From what I understand, if the phone doesn't come from your account you can use it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was on the phone with VW Customer support reference some issues I was having and I told them it was BS that they now want to start charging me $20 per line for unlimited data. She says I understand but now you can use upgrades on those lines and not LOSE your unlimited contract since you are paying the additional $20 per line.

Has anyone else heard this and know if it is factual or not?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You can use the upgrade for device payment plan, not 2 year contract

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was clicking around trying to get the data off the dumb phone that was forced when I bought it outright. Came across a selection for unlimited minutes, at $20. I hardly use any minutes, but this would save me $30 over my 700 shared.
Will this make me lose my UDP?

Yes you can now. The up charge for unlimited now allows for discounts via 2 year contract or device installment payments. You will not lose your unlimited data now.

I don't think that's accurate. The way I understand it you can't use a 2 year contract discount. However you can use the device payment plan but that's nothing more than paying full retail (no discount) via an installment plan.

No, upgrade is available via device payment plan only while keeping UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

For anyone still wondering, I just did an Ota update, kept my unlimited intact. Did bbm prior to 11/15, inserted old sim prior to 11/15. Phone received through bbm has been on line the whole time. Had line activation on account for a while. It fell off a little over 20 days after received phone. All looks clear. Hope that helps someone wondering if they should do the ota update.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know if assumption of liability or something similar still works? My mom and I have an old legacy plan, both with UD. My mom doesn't need unlimited data. My wife on the other hand, does need unlimited data. Can I port my wife's number over to my mom's line, which would give us a plan together, and put my mom on a tiered data plan. Hope all that makes sense. I know, I'm almost 30 and still on a phone contract with my mom. I refuse to give up UD.

You would have to port both numbers out to another service then port your wife's number back to udp line then your mom's number back to the other line. It is also risky whenever dealing with a rep and unlimited data.

Any 6P should be safe to use on a UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have a S3, I've ordered a Note4 that I'm going to own outright. When it comes, to retain my UDP, do I simply pull the SIM card from my S3 and put it in the "new" Note4 and power up? If not, what steps do I follow? <<I have only 1 line>> TIA, Al
