Actually, 2 is possible. Upgrade your phone online from Best Buy, including signing up for a contract renewal. Have it delivered to your home, take out the sim and destroy it. Sell the phone on eBay or Swappa. The contract is extended for 2 years, avoiding the $20, and the subsidized phone is sold for a profit. Then use the upgrade on the TDP the way you outlined.

Here's my situation again (to avoid having to find it):

Verizon Family Plan:
L1: UDP Samsung Galaxy S5 - Upgrade eligible - Contract expires 4/11/16
L2: TDP iPhone 5S - Upgrade eligible - Contract expires 5/31/16

Goals:
1) Upgrade L1 to Galaxy S7 without losing UDP
2) Avoid $20 / month additional fee for UDP
3) Get S7 at subsized rate ($199)

If I take the advice above (Best Buy Method then sell to accomplish #2), why not just purchase another S7 at full retail using the proceeds from the sale to accomplish #1? I suppose I could use L2 to get a subsidized upgrade, but when the wife wants a new iPhone, I'd be stuck paying full price for that anyway...

Or how about this: if you don't mind being in contract, see if verizon will let you upgrade early and sign another 2 year contract with line 1. If so, that means you'll still be in contract and will avoid the $20 fee...I had a friend who was able to do this and get a subsidized iPhone 6s plus and avoided the $20 fee for another 2 years....could work...

Doing that would cause him to lose UDP on L1.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a fairly standard setup (upgraded using the "standard" tricks twice over the years, using the dumb phone):
L1 UDP 4G LTE (Galaxy S4) - upgrade available
L2 UDP 4G LTE (Galaxy S4) - upgrade available
L3 Basic Dumbphone - upgrade available
Out of contract (last did the upgrade dance by transferring upgrades and ordering online IIRC) 2 1/2 years ago; had to go to a verizon store to swap out SIMs (old phone had the older SIM design). Paying the $50 data charges (of course); $10/line on the family plan, 700 shared minutes.

I'd like to update both UDPs to S7's. What are my best options and what's the best (and reliable) sequence to use?

Thanks!

Any suggestions?

The way I used to do this was to upgrade L3, activate it on L3 (adds data), Swap L3 back to Dumbphone, then take the new phone and activate it on L1 with the old L1 SIM. Then Transfer L1 upgrade to L3, and repeat (putting new phone on L2 this time). Then drop data from L3. Result: L1 & L2 with new phones (old SIMs), L1 & L2 are UDP, L1 & L3 have extended contracts, no data on L3.

Is that the current working sequence? I think I infer (without reading 460 pages here) that it no longer is how I'd have to do it.
Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Read the top 4 post above yours, and situation.
Well that's a different situation since he has only a basic phone avail for upgrade and all 3 of my lines are available for upgrade.

I guess I must have pissed someone off since no one wants to help. My phone (HTC M8) was having some issues and today it completely stopped taking a charge, so i guess It's time to go down to the store and just get something as I can't wait any longer to figure this out. :(

Any suggestions?

There's also a wiki on slick deals, unfortunately It really just confused me but maybe you can make some sense of it and let me know wince our situations are similar. Not sure how long I can go without a phone though. Maybe I can just use my insurance on this one to buy another couple days time.

I'd like to know if I ca simply just go to the verizon store, buy an S7 on the TDP account that is eligible. Come home and transfer it to my UDP account. Then, next month, move the Basic Phone Line's upgrade to the TDP account , buy an M10 activate it on the TDP, Then Transfer it to my UDP, and move the S7 back to the TDP?

What I used to do (2 years ago) was buy a phone online for the TDP, then simply activate it on my UDP account using the id's and serials provided with the phone. This avoided having to cut down my old sim card.

Verizon Nationwide Talk Family Share 700
L1: UDP S5 --> S7, Yes upgrade eligible, CED 4/11/16
L2: TDP iP5s, Yes upgrade eligible, CED 5/31/16

I would like to upgrade L1 to S7 at subsidized rate and keep UDP on that line.

Questions:
1) Since L2 is upgrade eligible, can I just use my upgrade on that line to activate an S7, then transfer that phone over to L1 after it's been activated on L2?
2) What is the process for transferring the S7 from L2 --> L1 (and is there any risk to losing UDP)?
3) Since my upgrade on L2 will be "conventional", can I do this directly through a Verizon or BB store (no need to mail order)?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I did the Best Buy method back in July, and it worked perfectly. But now my LG G4 has developed the dreaded boot loop issue. Would there be any risk to my unlimited plan if I tried going to a Verizon store to get my phone replaced?

So does the Best Buy method and sell phone work ?

I would deal directly with LG on this and avoid Verizon.

I have UDP and had this issue as well some months ago. Was unaware that it was an ongoing problem. Called Verizon Customer Service and was sent another device as warranty replacement. Inserted same sim card and never had a problem. I was very cautious and made sure my plan wasn't affected.

I also had no problem activating a warranty replacement S5 last summer without losing UDP.

Other people have successfully avoided the increase by extending an existing contract the was going to run out using the Best Buy Method, but selling our trading the new phone.

I'm curious as to when you can upgrade while under contract. I know in the past the carriers used to let you upgrade early, but I thought that was discontinued. Are they letting you upgrade early again, or was it never completely dropped?

I hadn't been under contract for years, and then in 2014 I received a Verizon UDP line via AoL. The contract expires in November 2016. I'm hoping that something like this is still possible then. I'm not as concerned about the $20 price increase as I am about being able to get a subsidized phone and staying under contract, but avoiding the price increase would certainly be nice!

I'm not sure why/how, but my Verizon UDP line has an upgrade available a couple months before my contract expires (see attached). I'm planning to do the same thing you mentioned - subsidized phone, avoid $20 incremental fee, maintain UPD. For me, this will be achieved through a combination of (1) using an upgrade from a different TDP line on my account and (2) using the BBM to renew my contract without losing UDP. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

No, I have the G4 which I got subsidized and had the and dreaded boot loop. Went to Verizon, they ordered be a new one with 1 day delivery with no questions asked! So no risk.

That early 2/14 upgrade showed up on my line as well, and I've seen several other people talk about it. I have no idea how or why it's there, and why every one I've come across is 2/14. My contract isn't up until the end of April!

If you want to keep her upgrade available for her use later, then that is exactly what I would do.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi guys. So I am trying to upgrade through the Best Buy method + sell the phone to keep my UDP. However, when I try to purchase the upgrade on the Best Buy website, it tells me "Keeping Existing Plan" is not available and asks me to remove it from my cart, which in turn removes the phone from my cart. Anyone experience this or know a workaround? From what I've been reading in this thread, it should go through with no issue? Thanks in advance!
