Just got off the phone with a Verizon Rep. Have a family plan with one dumb phone line( upgradeable) and three unlimited lines.I used the upgrade for the SG4 phone and the 2gb $30 plan.He told me when I get the phone in to call Customer Care and they will replace one of my unlimited line phones with it andI would still would keep the unlimited. Is this right? Or should i just activate it on the dumb phone line and then transfer it to my unlimited line and put the dumb phone back on.Thanks

That's incredibly weird. You might want to pick up a cheap verizon throw away device from ebay or something for $2 or see if a friend has an old one. It doesn't have to work.

Could I just ask friends on facebook for the ID of a throw-away they no longer use, or do I have to wait for them to smail it? Also, what's the monthly charge for an extra line with a dumb-phone, is it $9.99 or is that a special deal I get for having a dummy device? Thanks!

The 9.99 is accurate as far as I know; you don't necessarily have to have the physical phone, but I'm not 100% sure which numbers you need from it.

Make sure you guys are all keeping an eye on it throughout your billing cycle to make sure it doesn't revert. If it DOES change, get on the phone with them immediately. It's rare, but it has happened.

after billing cycle on the 8th ends I should be good? Or more vigilance? I check my account daily... after a verizon employee used my account to get an iphone 5 I look all the time... but thanks for the heads up.

I followed the instructions to a T, and upgraded my wife's line today to get the GS4. I got home went online and tried to switch it back to my line. It will not let me It says the following:
Please select a line to swap with. Some lines may be ineligible for this transaction due to suspended service or pending order.
We cannot complete your request online. Please contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for assistance with your order.
They said that I have to wait for the order to finish pending, but they cannot finish it either. They said I have to wait 24 hours for it to finish. Is there anything I can do?
My account is always paid early and is active too so there is no balance on the account either.

When I did this this morning, before I went to the store, I had switched her phone to my line, and my phone to her line since I was trading it in. WHen I got to the store, I upgraded my iphone to the GS4 on her line. When I got home I got back on line and did exactly like earlier and switched her phone back to her line and it will not let me. I even tried to switch the GS4 to my line and it won't let me. The tech rep at the call center said he had been calls like this all day and others had the same issues as me and he knew what I was doing, and he wanted to help, but he said that I have to wait, or else if he forces it, I lose my unlimited data.

Okay I'd give it the 24 hours then, sounds like something on their end.

why didn't you just swap in store? That's what I did... and not a problem for me

I just got off of the chat with Verizon rep.... i saved the text in case there is a problem.... I have a dummy line with a dumb phone on it that is not eligible for an upgrade (note: I do not have the dumb phone in my possession).... my main line with my unlimited data is availible for an upgrade. I was told that i can transfer the upgrade to the dummy line, buy the S4 on the dummy line, then when I pick the phone up in the store, activate it directly to my line without losing my unlimited data... My concern if I activated the new phone to the dummy line first i do not have the ESN to put the dumb phone back on the dummy line. She said it would not be a problem and that if i followed her instructions of leaving the dumb phone on the line I just upgraded and just activate the new phone on my unlimited data I would have zero issues. This is what I did and am hoping for zero issues....

In the store, just to be sure that I got to keep my unlimited data, the rep activated to the dummy line first and then transferred the gs4 to my unlimited line.

Activate it first to dumbphone line then put dumbphone back on line and then activate new phone to your line. That's what you are doing correct ?

The rep on the chat said I could do it directly to the line with the unlimited data plan with no issues since it was purchased on the line with the dumb phone, however in the store now picking up the device and am told that it has to be activated on the dummy line first, like everyone else has been saying, and then transferred over. I will update.

I also had the issue where I wasnt able to activate the phone online today (told me to call the 800 number). I got a rep who succeeded in putting the dumb phone back on the line i transfered to, but when I said something about switching sim cards, she said no. I had to call back and speak to another rep in order to get the right sim card associated with the S4.

Some reps are great, others are clueless.

Mannnnnn...you guys just don't understand the level of happiness I achieved upon stumbling on this thread. But before I just jump into this I have a bunch of questions as I absolutely cannot afford to lose my unlimited data plan.

So here's the situation, I have a Galaxy s3 as my primary phone, and I have a Samsung Hue basic phone on the plan too. It's actually still being used by one of my grandparents(if that matters) anyway. Now both phones are due for an upgrade or have been for quite some time, at least a year.

If I'm understanding correctly, in order to keep my unlimited data plan, I need to take the Hue into the store, and get the upgrade discount with that, then once I have my upgraded phone, I just switch it over to my unlimited line?

Please help, looking to actually get this done today if possible. Also, I have like 8 days left on my contract cycle so if this works I should know if I'm good within 8 days. Right?

I would be transferring 2 upgrades to line 3 with the dumbphone, but the terms of the Verizon rebate leave me a bit curious..." Limit one rebate offer per wireless phone number and ESN, MEID, or IMEI. Equipment must be activated on Verizon Wireless service to receive rebate..."

So, they seem to specifically target the wireless phone number as well as the activiation, but I'm guessing as long as it was initially activated that shouldn't be an issue. But upgrading multiple devices to one phone number might leave me out in the cold with at least one of the rebates, right? Anyone still waiting for their rebate from more than one S4 with this method? Thanks.

Just went to Costco and salesperson asked me if I needed help. I said I wanted to upgrade but didn't want to lose unlimited data. Salesperson said no problem. Got new phone at subsidized price and retained unlimited data! Had three upgrades available (1 dumb and 2 unlimited). Now my phone is still unlimited with new 2 year contract. Whew!!!
