[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you.
You've been a big help and I appreciate all my concerns being answered, regardless if they had been beaten to death.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone would like an unlimited line? (at a small cost) :)

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is anyone having trouble transferring upgrades on the website, during the upgrade process?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, I had this same problem. It appears that you can do this on My Verizon if you order a new phone on the website too. I was buying from Best Buy, In Store, so I just had them transfer the upgrade at the store, at time of purchase.

Hopefully, this is a temporary issue. However, if they are closing the loophole, I am going to wait and will order from Bestbuy.com tonight. They also give the option of transferring the upgrade from one line to another. It sucks, because the phone is $99.99 higher than ordering from Verizonwireless.com, and I like dealing with Verizon more than Best Buy.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Unbelievable, I tried ordering from verizonwireless.com since last night and was unable to transfer the upgrade. I still can't.

Then I went to the Verizon Wireless Iconic Portal. It's meant for preorders, but you can actually order any device. It also was coming back with an error and not allowing the upgrade transfer. I was already to order from Best Buy 45 minutes ago, when I decided to try the Iconic Portal one last time.

And it worked....

I got the G2 for $49.99. A little unfortunate, since vzw.com was offering the same phone for free with $50 off coupon LN50, but I'll just let sleeping dogs lie. It isn't worth calling customer care for a $50 price adjustment on a "loophole order." since that could be potentially risky as well. It was still cheaper than Best Buy.com and if I have a mechanical issue within the first 30 days, I can get help at a Verizon store and avoid Best Buy.

Really hope dpham00 and others can chime in and say if they are also having issues with the website and the Upgrade transfer option.

Sorry, I don't have any upgrades available at this time so I can't check

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Oh, btw, if my father bought his HTC One from Best Buy only a month or two ago, will he get an ETF from Verizon or Best Buy if he deactivates his phone to activate my new phone that I got off the verizonwireless website?
Even if I'm reactivating his HTC One on his line right after, and then activating my new phone on my line, I'm not sure if either retailer will charge me ETFs.

And regarding Sim cards:
When I activate the new smart phone, I remove the Sim card from my father's HTC One, move it to the new smart phone, and activate it, right?
Then I remove his Sim card, return it to his HTC One, then get a new Sim card from Verizon and put it in my new smartphone that had just been deactivated, and proceed to activate it with the new Sim card?

Hopefully I'm not making this too complicated to understand, I just want to be crystal clear before I get my family even further into debt.

At best buy, so long as the line is not deactivated, then no etf would be incurred. You can put any device on the line that you want.

So as long as I don't cancel the line, I can just activate the new smartphone (with the HTC One turned off), which will deactivate the HTC One automatically, and it won't give me an ETF for Best Buy or Verizon?

And I get the Sim card from the store, even if I didn't buy the phone from the store?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Update: I checked vzw.com and transfers work again. I canceled my Iconic order and reordered through the main vzw.com website with the $50 discount code VZWDEAL
Got the LG G2 for $0.00

Correct, just move the sim to the new phone. If you don't have the right sim size, you can either cut it down or a store will give you one free regardless of where you bought the phone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everybody so i have read through many things trying to keep my unlimited data and im super nervous about trying it so if someone can answer my questions it would be super helpful!

Soo here is my plan i Have 3 lines on my account line A has UDP and an upgrade Line B has UDP no upgrade and line C has 2gb Plan with an upgrade. What i want to do is upgrade to 2 new htc ones for myself and my boyfriend Line A and Line B. My questions are.

When upgrading Line C do i need to activate it with the new htc one or can i just activate it with Line A or Line B when it comes in?
If i do need to upgrade Line C with the htc one can i then use my verizons activate or switch Device to transfer the phone?
Is it better to use the switch device or the activate device?
and finally can i transfer Line As upgrade to Line c without effecting the UDP plan For Line A?

Thanks so much for the help! i just want to make sure i understand how to do it.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

OH! also will i need to get any new sim cards? We all currently have the windows htc 8x

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The number one rule is to make sure you activate any discounted phone on the line with the capped data FIRST. After it's activated, you can put it on your unlimited data line and keep unlimited data. I always login to my Verizon account to verify features whenever a new phone is activated or swapped to a different line.

When I did this a few months ago, I ordered both phones at the same time, but since doing it again last week and this week, I strongly recommend ordering each phone separately and not ordering the 2nd phone until the first one has been activated line C and successfully swapped to the line that has unlimited data. After each order is placed, you'll have a pending equipment order on your account and it's easier, in my opinion, to break up the phone orders.

If I was ordering for you, I would do the following:

You have to upgrade line C first (2 GB capped plan) and after you receive it, activate it on line C, then swap it to either lines A or B with UDP. You and your boyfriend can fight over who gets the new phone first :)

Verify that Line C should now have it's contract extended for 2 years, while A & B should have the same contract and upgrade dates.

Now, you can order the 2nd phone. Login to your account and go to Upgrade device. Line A with UPD should have a blue link below the line that says TRANSFER UPGRADE. Click on the link, and transfer the upgrade to Line C with the 2 GB plan. Check to verify, but it should say below Line C that it is now eligible to upgrade.

Upgrade Line C as normal.

After you get the new phone, activate it on Line C. Login to your account to verify the new phone is activated on Line C and that Line A still has unlimited data. Line A should still have unlimited data but the contract will be extended for 2 years.

Then, you can take the phone off of line C and swap it with either lines A or B.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Regarding the sim card issue, you should be fine, as both your windows HTC 8x and HTC One use a Verizon Micro sim.

If you do everything right, you shouldn't need to call Verizon or go into a store.

After you activate each new phone on line C, verify it by logging into your account.

Then Turn off your current Windows phone on Line A or B and remove the sim card.
These sim cards are already activated on your current numbers with the UDP plans.

Turn off the brand new HTC One, after it has been activated on line C. Remove the sim and replace it with one of the sims from A or B. Power Line A or B on and the new HTC One will automatically activate.

Take the old sim that was used to activate the HTC ONE on Line C, and put it in the old smartphone that you previously had on Line C. The old phone should reactivate on Line C. Good luck.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks so much ur awesome so one question is to switch the phone from line c to line A do I need to do it through my Verizon switch devices? And follow all the steps on there?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do all the purchasing and upgrading etc on My Verizon online. When I got one of my new phone, I called 877-807-4646 and entered the phone # for the tiered data line---Your Line C. Go through the prompts (make sure the old phone on Line C is powered off) and it should say Congrats, activation successful. Power on the new phone and the sim should verify it's been activated after a few minutes.

Once the phone has been activated on line C, you shouldn't need to use the website or call in to switch devices. Just take the original sim out of the HTC One on Line C and swap it with the sim from Your A or B line.

The most critical step of the entire process is transferring the upgrade from Line A to Line C when you order the 2nd phone.

Once the new phone is in your hand, the 2nd most critical step is to activate the new phone on Line C first.

After that, everything else should be a simple matter of swapping sims. Just make sure when you are swapping devices, that the original phones for Lines A & B are turned off.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If I have a Droid Eris, which didn't have a sim card, will I have to get a sim card registered under my number from the store in order to work with the new smartphone I get?

I have it understood that when I get the new smartphone, I activate on the line that I transferred my upgrade to with the sim card from that line's old phone. But if I didn't have a sim card in my phone, how would I get one that is registered for my line, or can I switch it over to my UDP line via the vzw website?
