[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well I can't say for sure that it's happening. I'm just going on faith that the news story is correct.
It wasn't a real news story, just internet journalism. Anyhow, turns out it was only for the Costco kiosks, not for ordering from Verizon.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

So is this trick only working with specific phones?

The phone has arrived.... Unfortunately I'm at work for another 4 hours, so I'll try to activate it tonight and see if it still shows unlimited

I believe I won't be able to use the SIM from my RAZR in the Droid MAXX because they are different sizes? Will this be an issue using this method?

Which method? Transfer an upgrade to a dumbphone or tiered data line? If so, no. Just upgrade the new device on the dumbphone or tiered data line and then log on and switch it to your UDP line by typing in the SIM card number of the SIM card the device came with.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I transferred my UDP upgrade to a dumb phone and ordered the MAXX on that. I'll have to use the new SIM that comes with the MAXX as it's smaller than the SIM in my RAZR. Will that cause a problem in which number is assigned to the phone after reactivating the dumb phone and transferring the MAXX to the UDP line currently occupied by my RAZR?

No, when you go to switch it to your UDP line, you will be asked if you have a SIM card or not. You say yes and type in the SIM card number. The system will now recognize that SIM card as being associated with you UDP line.

One word of caution, it sometimes takes about 30 minutes for this to fully make it through the system. During that time, your new device may show the phone number of the dumbphone line and if so texts and calls to the dumbphone line will be routed to your UDP line.

But every time I have done this it has worked itself out in under 30 minutes.

Just put it in and turn on the phone.

Awesome!!!!! If you make it past 14 days with your UDP intact please let us know. There shouldn't be any problems but it is always nice to get reassurance from people who have actually done it!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The SIM card came pre installed. There was no associated card. How can I get the number?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I might as well post my scenario to see what others would recommend and ask a few questions.

I have a Droid Incredible (DINC). On a family share + Canada Plan that has UDP w/corp email for $44.99/mo & 250 texts for $5/mo. 11% voice access discount
Wife has LG enV?3, no data or texting
Extra line is LG VX8300 no data or texting

DINC is eligible for upgrade. Both LG's become eligible in mid May.

I got a Droid Mini (DMINI) today (I ordered it online a few days ago through VZW site) and did the upgrade. I was unable to complete it all myself online. I had to call into customer care for two reasons.

  1. To reactivate my wife's LG enV?3 I had to select a data plan despite the fact that it had never had one up until I activated the Droid Mini on that line. There was no option for " no data" so I selected a $10/month 75MB data plan.To remove that $10/month 75MB data plan I had to call into customer care to request that they remove the data package. Online chat person said they could not do so. Removing it with customer care was easy.
  2. To then activate the Droid Mini on my line I had to call in to customer care. When I attempted to activate it online it said I had a new phone that had to be activated on that line. Dialing *228 also did not let me activate the phone. It gave me a message that I had to call customer care. I called customer care and told him I needed to activate the phone on my line. A few minutes later we were done and I still have UDP.

The only logical reason I can think I had to call in for the second time is because I forgot to power off my DINC before activating the DMINI.

Now I have UDP through Feb 2016. :D

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I'm on a single phone unlimted plan can I add a basic phone to my plan then upgrade it when my upgrade is due? That is if this still works.

The number is on the card. Take the card out and read it. You may need a magnifying glass to read it. I do.

What phone do you have?

If you block data on the line, that will remove the data plan, too. You can block data online. But yes, the phone CSRs are nice IME and help you. It is the in store CSRs who are usually the problem IME.

*228 doesn't work with 4G LTE phones.

I can't figure out why some times things go smoothly when you do it online but other times they don't. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Awesome!

It's not cost effective to convert an individual plan to a family plan. Buying from Best Buy online is a better option. The only phone you can't get doing it that way is the Droid Maxx. Here is the link to that method.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

......and I am up and running with my new Droid MAXX. THANK YOU for this thread. Motorola Migrate is working now, transferring all my files, pictures, music, etc, from my RAZR MAXX. Now to sell that phone for what this one cost me (or even a little more)....
