[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Go to Verizon with the RAZR and have them troubleshoot it.

So put the sim card back into the Razr and take that to Verizon??

Will switching the sim card back and forth mess anything up? Not sure what it would mess up specifically, but didn't know if that was a chance?

It'll be fine since you are only swapping SIMs of the same size. Trying to mess with multiple differently sized SIMs can get confusing...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I ordered my Moto X through Motomaker today. Also ordered a sim cutter from Amazon since I am coming from a GNex with a micro-sim. Hopefully this trick still works.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It isn't the usual way to do it as originally described in this thread. But cc1995 above did mention doing it as you describe and said it worked and you wouldn't lose unlimited on either line. Key is just not to activate it on the line that was used for the upgrade. I can't personally verify that it works but since you've already ordered the phone you can try that. Give us an update if you do on whether it worked or not. It would be an great revelation if you can confirm that this works.

Thanks for the response! We don't have the phone yet as it was delivered while we were both at work and FedEx wouldn't leave it at the door. So hopefully tomorrow we will find out.

I chatted with two different Verizon reps last night via Verizon Wireless website. The first guy told me it wouldn't work without assumption of liability, which meant I would have to change my plan and start fresh. Basically he told me the only way I could keep my unlimited was buying a phone at full price/on eBay. He was not very helpful to say the least. The next guy I chatted with was very helpful and told me I could definitely do it, but to have my husband activate the new phone on his account (he has a standard 2GB Share Everything, not unlimited like me) and then deactivate and re-activate his old phone before activating the new phone to my line. He assured me this would work....I guess worse comes to worse, I get my husband's old phone and he gets the new one. What I am most afraid of is activating the new phone on my line and somehow losing my unlimited plan, which would be like losing gold. I don't expect much help from Verizon in this department since they are trying their hardest to eliminate these plans.

Oh I didn't know your husband had measured data, I thought you both had unlimited. In that case yes the second Verizon CSR is correct, just have him activate the phone and then transfer it to your line. Actually it's probably not even necessary to activate it on his line first you could probably just put it on your line right off the bat. Because many phones sold on eBay and Craig's list are just that people exercising their upgrades and selling the phone for a profit. If you'd list your unlimited data by activating such a phone people buying these phones would lose their unlimited data when they buy and activate one of these phones which obviously isn't the case.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

He stopped by Verizon this morning with the active Razr. The sim card was fired, bought a new one and is now in 4G.

Now do I need to wait a certain amount of time before switching to the S4? I guess the process wont be any different? Just pop the sim card out and into the new phone?

I hope you didn't have to buy another SIM card - they ought to be free.

And you don't need to wait, just swap it to the S4.

Charged us $3. Not going to have a cow over $3 when I'm upgrading and shouldn't be allowed to :D

That was our original plan, just to activate the new phone straight to my line. But I got nervous when I found this thread and read this in the original post:

"Once you receive your new phone, activate it onto the line that you used to upgrade which will deactivate the current phone on that line. <--This is very important. You CANNOT just activate the newly purchased phone directly to another line because you must first activate it on the line you used to upgrade to complete the upgrade and subsidized price process. If you were to activate directly to a line other than the line you used to upgrade and that line had unlimited data, you would lose unlimited because Verizon would think you used that unlimited line to purchased the upgrade."

So I'm a little paranoid that Verizon will "know" it's an upgraded phone (as opposed to an outside phone bought on eBay/CL) and apply it to my available upgrade if I use my line to activate. We got the phone today so we are going to give it a shot tonight. Thanks for the help and I will report back with what worked/didn't work!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When I did this the rep informed me I needed to leave the phone on the line for 24 hours that the system takes time to fully update.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok guys - it worked. I had my husband activate the new phone on his line, then immediately turn off the new phone and re-activate his old phone. He ended up having to speak to a Verizon rep in order to do this, but he didn't really tell her what we were actually doing, just said he wanted to go back to his old phone. Once his old phone was activated, I turned off my old phone and activated on the new phone - I also had to speak to a Verizon rep to do this. But it went smoothly and I confirmed via the Verizon Wireless website that my unlimited data plan is unchanged!

Thanks for the help - hope this information helps others keep their unlimited plans indefinitely!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My Verizon online doesn't show the "Transfer Upgrade" option on my unlimited data line like it used to. A rep said that loophole had been closed. Can anyone confirm?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sounds like Natalie did it just yesterday. So maybe it is a temporary deal. If they close the loophole I will be changing service.

Are you sure you have an upgrade available? You can always call and request to transfer your upgrade. Just don't tell them why. You may have to call several times before you find someone that will/can move it. I would be interested in finding out if the have closed it.

hope the loophole works

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Still works. I got a LG G2 this week for $0.00 at BB online shipped to house and it activated with my old 4G LTE sim card from my GNex. My account still shows UDP.

I just tried it and it worked, but I didn't actually complete the order. Don't really see any phones that excite me right now.

I didn't use any "transfer upgrade option" - and from the research I did (although every Verizon rep you talk to seems to have a different opinion/advice on the subject), it seems that by doing what I did, you're really "cheating" the system rather than using an approved loophole. We talked to 3 different Verizon CSRs and all had different things to say about whether or not what we did would work. But it did work for us doing it the way I described. Good luck!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Can this be done with Note 3 or HTC One Max. Please kindly advise.
