[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Here's my story...
1. Read every post on this thread
2. Ordered my phone on 5/3 (VZ account stayed at Unlimited data, contract end date extended to 5/3/16)
3. Received phone on 5/9 (VZ account still at Unlimited data)
4. Activated phone on 5/9 (VZ updated my phone to the S5, still at Unlimited data and contract end date of 5/3/16)

So I am a happy camper, but here is my dilemma. The phone dropped in price $100 from when I ordered a few days ago. I called and tried to get the Low Price Guarantee though their policy does not apply to phones. My thought is taking the phone into the store and trying to get them to just refund me the difference, and if not, just return it (wiped and no sim card) and go through the process again.....ultimately risking having to do the process again without this loophole closing. I'm tempted to just make the threat of return in the store but not actually go through with it. Any thoughts? I feel like karma will bite me in the *** if I get greedy.

You called Best Buy and they wouldn't refund the difference? That's strange. They refunded me the $100 plus tax after I bought my Note 3 and the same thing happened. I had 0 issues getting them to do it even though I was ready for a fight. Try calling again. Sometimes it's all in who you get. If I remember right, the first girl told me it could be done but I had to wait until I got the phone. The second person I talked to put it through immediately. I got the refund before I even had the phone in my hands.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

A statement and a question. I just visited my Verizon company store and was told that with an upgrade I'd loose my UDP but would be replaced with a 6GB plan for the same price of the UDP. Question, does anyone know if the SIM card in my Droid Razr Max is the same size as what the Samsung S5 takes? Thanks.

GSM arena says the razr maxx uses a micro sim. I can confirm, I had a Razr and then just put the sim card in my s3. Which also holds a micro. So you'll be good.

my mom uses a 4g Samsung s3 would that work?

S3 has a micro sim. So you could upgrade to an s5 no problem.

I just used this method a few days ago to get the HTC one M7 version since it was .01 cent came to like 13 bucks after tax, still waiting for phone but atm i still show unlm data on account, I had a 4glte droid bionic previously before this so hopefully everything goes smoothly.

The M7 has a micro sim, so are you planning on cutting? The Bionic has a full sized sim

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Just an update- ordered the HTC One M8 on 5/3, got it and activated on 5/9 and UDP is still in effect. I ordered a nano sim from verizon before I placed the BB order and used that. All good so far!

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Any update from anyone that had a 3G simcard and tried ordering a new 4g sim card from Verizon?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

That's what I'm hoping to do for my wife's phone (iphone 4 no sim card, ordered sim card, putting it straight into the BB ordered phone). Phone is on it's way so i'll be able to update for sure when I get the phone. Note, when I ordered the sim from VZW, i did specify that i'd be buyin a phone used, and told them exactly which phone (so they could get the right sim card). They understood that people were doing this to keep unlimited data and gave me no trouble.

My phone is a Galaxy S4, so it already has a micro sim, and the new note 3 uses micro sim too. good thing i don't have to bother with the nano sim cutting.

Do you have any update? I am in the exact same boat as you. My wife has a iphone 4s which only has a 3g sim card it, so I ordered a new micro 4G sim card from verizon. I also order a new S5 from best buy mobile. Here's the scary part, I received an email from Best Buy saying that there's a problem with my order and that I need to call them back. The rep I talked to said it there was a problem with the code that was transmitted to Verizon and said that it didn't match with Verizon's system. I am really worried about this and that they might have caught on to this. Did any one get this? I placed my order on May 8th. I didn't have the same problem with my main phone that I tried to upgrade.

I am thinking if I get my wife's new phone shipped I shouldn't take the chance of putting that new verizon sim card I ordered first and try installing on the my old rezound first. If that works and my wife's data plan stays unlimited then I would just switch it to the new S5. Did anyone try this and did it work successfully?

Also, down the road my biggest fear is that Verizon would do some sort of audit or sweep and find out about this and automatically change our plan but at that point it will be too late for us to return anything since it will way past the 15 days. Does anyone else have the same fears?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Sorry if these questions have been answered before. I tried to do some research but came up with nothing and I am also under a bit of a time crunch.

1. I have an iPhone 4 and am looking to order an iPhone 5S from BestBuy. Since the iPhone 4 is 3G, will I still be able to use the SIM in the iPhone 5S and have it work with their 4G service?

2. If the sim will not work, what is the best way to go about getting the proper sim card with my current info / UDP on it?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here is my situation:

1. My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 with Unlimited Data. She is eligible for an upgrade.
2. My girlfriend also has another line on her plan for her mother. Her mother has a dumb phone that is also eligible for an upgrade.

My girlfriend would like to upgrade to the iPhone 5S and still keep her unlimited data. How can she go about doing this?

Also, is it possible for her to upgrade both lines, get two iPhone 5S phones, keep her unlimited data plan and then have her mom continue to use her flip phone without having a data plan on both lines?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

If they did anything after 15 days that would be them changing your contract on you...could result in possible legal actions brought upon them if enough people were impacted (and they typically provide a opt-out window when they do change their terms), or on a smaller scale you transfer your service to another carrier and contest with your credit card any early termination fees they try to impose (good reason to save that Best Buy screenshot of *Keep Existing Data Plan*).

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

So, I need some advice.

I have UDP (or rather had) and tried to upgrade to the HTC One M8 when they had it on sale for $99. Since it was through HTC but powered by Best Buy Mobile, I figured I would be okay.

After I ordered the phone, I soon got an email that there was a problem with the order. I called the phone number expecting them to say that the order wasn't going through because I had UDP and that I would have to switch. To my surprise, they never mentioned this and just said that it was a problem with the upgrade not being processed even though I was eligible. They called Verizon with me on the phone and said that everything was squared away.

Just to be on the safe side, I checked the Verizon website, and it still showed I had UDP. The next morning I checked again, and it's now saying that I'm on a 2GB plan per month. I'm preparing to call Verizon to fight with them, but any advice that anyone can offer would be appreciated.

I would return the phone and get your UDP back ASAP!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

dss2000,

Thank you for the instructions. So I do not even need to worry about activating the phone on Line 2 when I get it? I figured that I would have to activate the smartphone first on line 2 and then reactivate the dumbphone back onto the line (which would then remove the smartphone from Line 2). This way Verizon would see the smart phone as being a "used" phone when activating it on line 1.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Yeah, return the phone when it comes. You can take it to a local Best Buy to return it, or you can refuse the package.

If they haven't gotten too far with the order you can call them and have them cancel it.

Never ever let Verizon get involved with the ordering process at all. I can 110% guarantee you that fighting with Verizon over this will get you nowhere other than wasting your time/pissing you off even further (going off personal experience with the same issue). They will tell you that your only options are:

1. Switch to the 6gb Max data plan.
2. Pay full retail for the device.
3. Return the device and reactivate your old device.

If you want your UDP reinstated, you have to return the phone to Best Buy and reactivate your old phone. Then Verizon needs to be contacted and they'll have to put in an "inactive pricing request" (I think that's what it's called) for you in hopes of having your UDP reinstated. I said in hopes because it is not guaranteed. They do NOT have to reinstate it - it's their call.

It worked for me, and I reordered the phone from Best Buy. I still have my UDP because it worked properly the second time around.

No it's not necessary.

He's saying he got an email from Best Buy Mobile that there's a problem with the order. BBM never gave confirmation that they shipped the phone. I got the same message and I called the Best Buy Mobile number and they said some mumble jumbo about pre-activation being failed and that they would have to contact the carrier to resolve the issue. The rep told me that this was completely random when it happens. I was going to wait for them to work verizon to see what happens but it sounds like this is where verizon will switch your data plan. I just checked my data plan and its still unlimited but I will play it safe and call and cancel my order and try the process again hoping not to get this random pre-activation failure.

I understood what he was saying, but once Best Buy works it out with Verizon (which they did since his plan was changed down to 2gb) they will ship the phone because there are no longer any issues with the order.

A word of caution with activation on Line 1. The phone will arrive with a Sim (nano size?) that has already been associated with Line 2 and the data plan selected when the phone was purchased. For this reason, I would recommend trashing this Sim and getting a new one that is associated with Line 1 and the UDP. Verizon will give you one at one of their corporate stores or you can order one to be mailed to you.
