[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

The first post said he called the activation, ran into a snag then talked to a live person to finish activation.

Warning to all - just insert the old SIM and be done with it. DONT CALL THE ACTIVATION!

I called activation with the phone off, it didn't matter (and with my old SIM in). The activation wallgarden activates the new SIM!

I see now what you did. I never got that from the instructions. It seen pretty straight forward.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Tell me see if I am understanding this properly.

I am on the Nationwide Tlk&txt Share 700 Plan with 3 phones.

Line 1: UDP - Droid Razr - (Upgrade available)
Line 2: 2GB - IPhone 4 - (No Upgrade)
Line 3: Dumb - LG Cosmos - (Upgrade Available)

I order a Samsung S5 or HTC One M8 as an upgrade for line 3 through the Verizon website.

Q1: Am I correct to assume that I order the upgrade with a data plan?

Q2: Do I need to activate the 'new phone' using the 'new Sim' on line 3 when I receive it or just put my 'line 1 Sim' in the 'new phone'?

Q3: I should be able to put the dumb phone back on line 3 somehow and then the data plan will just go away for line 3?

End Result would be as follows?

Line 1: UDP - S5 or M8 - (Upgrade available)
Line 2: 2GB - IPhone 4 - (No Upgrade)
Line 3: Dumb - LG Cosmos - (No Upgrade)

Yes when you order a phone on Line 3 you will be asked to select a data plan which is fine since it will only be temporary. So say you select the 2GB plan. Although it was described in the original post it is no necessary to first activate the new phone on your Line 3. Just take your SIM from the Razr and put it in the new phone. (assuming they are the same sized SIM). The pending activation/2GB data plan will never be enacted on Line 3 and the pending activation will fall off in about a week. Person on Line 3 will never have service disrupted.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This uses up the upgrade on line 3, correct?

Yes you will use the upgrade on Line 3 and the contract on Line 3 will be extended 2 years.
You can then later transfer the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 3 and do it again in which case you'd use up that upgrade and extend the contract on Line 1 by 2 more years.
Or you could transfer the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2 and upgrade that line if you wish. Main thing is to not use the upgrade on Line 1 (the UDP line) directly and activate a phone on Line 1. That is how you lose the unlimited data.

When the new phone arrives and you put the old sim card into the new phone and turn it on, does it automatically activate from there or do you have to do something special? I know in the past you could dial *228... I think to activate or update roaming capabilities.

It does it all by itself. You do nothing but sit and wait.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So, can I can the inactive sim Card from destroyed non functional RAZR, put that in my wife iPhone5 to get it registered and then put it into my BB S4?

No, Iphone 5 uses nano sim and Galaxy S4 uses micro sim. You would need a adapter. I think once your sim get deactivated you would not be able to use it anymore. You would need to get a new sim. Make sure to not use the Best Buy sim that came with the phone. Go get a Verizon micro-sim, tell them to activate on your line because you bought a phone off craiglist and is gonna pop it in as soon as you are home. Your Iphone 4 would be useless once it activated. Pop the sim you just received in your new Galaxy phone. Make sure call/text/data works. Check your account to see if UDP is still intact. Enjoy a cold beer afterwards.

Very good. I am clear on this now. Thanks for answering my questions. Now I get to go play with the phones hands on and decide which I want to order. =)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Can I have it activated at the Verizon store. I stopped by asking for sim Card without showing a phone and they wouldn't give it me without a phone on hand.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hello everyone! I just wanted to make sure I understand everything before ordering, because of the life of me I have to have my UDP. I used just shy of 130 GB this month. I currently use an old Razr Maxx which doesnt want to charge anymore =x. I was thinking of up to the M8. I have 5 lines on my account and mine is the only one with UDP and the only one with an upgrade. So I wanted to ask all the questions I can because as I stated before I NEED my UDP. So first of all. I go to phones with contract.BESTBUY1.jpg

Next I select the phone and hit add to package.BESTBUY2.jpg

Then I select UPGRADE MY DEVICE BESTBUY3.jpg

After that I sign into my phone line with the UDP.BESTBUY4.jpg

It says GREAT NEWS! You're eligible for an upgrade. You can keep your existing wireless plan and upgrade today! BESTBUY5.jpg

Next page it says Keep existing plan and it says No change next to planBESTBUY6.jpg

Now this is a question. Under Data plan it says This device needs a data plan please select one. And the only option I get is Line access fee? BESTBUY7.jpg

Next I would select ship to house BESTBUY8.jpg

Finally It says Keep existing plan No Change, but theres an *in front of no change. So it says *No Change. Is this okay? BESTBUY9.jpg

I didnt go any further because I assume Id be making changes at that point. Did I miss anything? Does everything seem like it should go okay? My line, the one using the upgrade, isnt the primary line, does that matter? And when/if the phone arrives, I just simply destroy the sim that comes with it and swap it out with my old one. Wont the device show as pending because I never activated the sim? Thanks guys, I know, I know, Im a pain in the ***, but Im anal about my UDP and wont let go!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

If I remember correctly, *228 does not work on 4G devices. The activation for 4G devices does not require a call.

Seems to much of a risk. If they can guarantee that your plan wont change go for it. You could always return the phone if the plan change within 14 days.

I wouldn't trust them!

Just make sure that when you received the phone, you have to cut your old sim to a nano size.

Plus restocking fee. That's why it's always good to go to best buy. No restocking fee.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Order from the main line by transferring upgrade to it. Others ran into issues when ordering phone for non-primary line

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I've been given so much misinformation today. The lady at Verizon I spoke with told me that even if I transferes my upgrade to a different line it would still use my UDP s upgrade and make me lose my unlimited data. Even if I just do a transfer. I just want a new phone and all these Verizon reps and their 1000000 different answers is gonna make my head explode I sware.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Also what do you mean by a primary line? Like a line that has full access to make changes on the account or like the first number added to the account? And can the primary line be switched to a different number, I.e my UDP line?

That's why it's best not to talk to Verizon CSR's especially the ones on the store. They give do much misinformation. I suspect they get a commission for every unlimited data plan they change. Only time I've seen people lie do much is when commission is involved.
