I did the best buy thing about a month ago. I had my old SIM card with unlimited data cut down which is currently being used. I may want to get a new SIM card which will enable me to use things like NFC.

Do I just go and ask them to give me a new SIM card?

Has anyone actually done this?

If you want a new SIM with NFC you can install the Isis app, it will say your SIM doesn't have NFC, do you want to order one. Click the link, fill in the information and they will send you one.

I did the above but it says to get one go to a Verizon store. Nothing about ordering one. (I have an LG G2)

Mine took about a week. Perhaps with Memorial Day weekend it is taking a bit longer. I wouldn't worry about it, you don't pay any higher rate since the plan doesn't go into effect. It will eventually fall off.

Follow-Up;
My pending order never fell off after a little longer than two weeks. I got my first bill and they had charges on it so I had to call to get the pending order taken off. All is good and not sure why I had a problem there. Thanks to this website, I get to keep my UDP. Thanks again.

So I understand how this works if I have 2 lines on my plan but I do not have 2 lines. I have a droid 4 with the unlimited and no other phones on the plan. Is there still a way for me 2 get an upgrade and keep udp? If so can some1 plz fill me in. Thanx.

If you only have one phone and one line with unlimited data plan then you'd probably have to use the Best Buy method see link below for thread on that. Several have reported doing it successfully but there appears to be several pitfalls (like just turning on phone with included SIM will make you lose UDP, avoid taking calls from Best Buy when they start questioning your order) you must read the instructions carefully and exactly and don't talk to any Best Buy or Verizon reps as they will screw it up and take your unlimited.
I would do it that way if like in your situation you don't have any lines to transfer upgrades to.

Thanx 4 your quick and helpful reply dss2000. I am ordering from bb now. At one point it says something about automatically being switched 2 the 2gb plan, but everywhere else it says keep same plan. Just want 2 make sure that wont b a problem 4 me. Just put my old sim card in and should b good 2 go, correct? Im guessing the answer is no, but, could i order online n do store pickup, or will they force me 2 activate it then? Also do u know if I need a sim cutter 2 go from droid 4 to s5, or could I cut it myself if necessary? Thanx again.

Oh, looks like it must have changed. Earlier this week when you clicked on Verizon it asked for my mobile number and address and allowed you to submit an order for one.

I don't have direct experience with this method just have read the posts. But sounds like that is the process. I would take screen pictures of every step to prove that it says keep your existing plan just in case. From others comments you should have it delivered to you, don't pick it up nor activate it in the store, avoid any phone calls from Best Buy or Verizon, don't talk to anyone to activate it. Don't turn the phone on when you get it with the SIM that comes with it, first thing you do when you get the phone is take out the SIM burn or flush it down the toilet or dispose of it in some ecologically friendly way.

Hello. We would like to update our existing phones and keep the unlimited data plan. We currently have the following and all are elig for updates:
Line 1: Iphone4
Line 2: Iphone4
Line 3: Dumb phone
We are thinking of getting GalaxyS4 or 5's on the first 2 lines. Is this isn't possible then we're okay with going to Iphone5's. The last line we would like to stay basic. Also, we would like to add unlimited text to line 1 (we have no texts included now). Is there anyway to do all of this with subsidized phones and keep unlimited data?

I just got my new Samsung Galaxy S5 from Best Buy today. I put in my old sim card, powered up the phone and selected "English" as my language. Next the setup wizard appeared and said:

"The sim card has already been activated.

When using mobile data for downloading, using, and updating apps, you will be billed according to your plan."

After that I just went through all the rest of a normal smartphone setup (for the first time you've turned it on) and then about an hour later my Verizon account showed my new phone has my activated device and showed ULD for my data allowance (see screenshot below).

But I've been told even transfering an upgrade from a UDP line will result in loss of UDP. Has anyone successfully done this via a secondary line?!?

Yes, this is possible. I have a 5 phone plan with 2 UDP lines.

In April I transferred the upgrade from a dummy line to my UDP line to get the S5. I was able to switch, activate, and keep UDP on my line, but it was the dummy line's contract that extended out two years not the UDP line. My UDP contract ended today on both UDP lines and was set to go month to month. I bought another S5 for the secondary UDP line and an iPhone 4S (only $1 for upgrade) to have both UDP lines extended out another 2 years.

I have not received the new phones, but both UDP lines are reflecting unlimited data until 6/7/2016.

Do you have a 4 or 4s? I do not believe this option will work for you if they are 4's, as the iPhone 4 does not have SIM card.

just tried this, i can select my line and it says ' Upgrade - keep existing plan' but under everything theres a little disclaimer that reads

'With Verizon's new Share Everything plan, unlimited data is no longer available. If you upgrade a line that has an existing unlimited data plan, you will lose unlimited data on that line.'
