[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Can I do this if I only have 1 line on my account by adding a new line and then switching sim cards?

There's no need to add a line using the best buy method, just make sure you have the option to keep your existing plan and select ship to home....when you get the phone, take out the SIM card before turning it on and insert your SIM (assuming they are the same size, otherwise you'll have to cut yours to fit) into the new phone, power it on and you'll get the message that the SIM had already been activated

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

And would this new card invalidate the UDP ?

Instead of cutting it, why not go to a Verizon store and tell them I need a sim card for the phone I bought on "ebay" ?

Getting a new SIM from Verizon would not invalidate your UDP...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I wanted to share my story about upgrading to a S5 while keeping my UDP via the Best Buy method because I was able to social engineer my way around the "Problem with Order" situation.

I ordered the S5 last Monday and a few hours later I received the "There was a problem with your order" email stating that I needed to call or my order would be cancelled in 48 hours. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to call instead of waiting like recommended in this thread. I guess I was hoping there was a problem with my address or shipping information, etc.

I called and was transferred to the activation department, where the took my information (SSN, Pin) again to try and authorize with Verizon. It failed again and the agent transferred me to their back office where another agent was unsuccessful. After that the agent said he needed to get Verizon on the phone to get the activation to go through. I knew that Verizon was going to impose a tiered plan if I went through so I told BB agent that I was at work and could no longer talk and would call back to take care of it. At this point I was pretty bummed and was resigned with just letting the order cancel.

After 3 days the order was still not cancelled, so I figured I'd try and fool Best Buy agent. I ignored a follow up phone call that came on Friday of last week. I then called Best Buy yesterday (Monday, one week after original order) morning to check the status of my delivery, even though I knew it wasn't being delivered. I played coy and the agent asked me if I received an email saying there was a problem with the order, to which I told her that I did and I had resolved it last week and was surprised my phone has not shipped yet. She was very accommodating and apologized that it wasn't shipped yet and said that the status must of been screwed up by mistake and that she'd clear it up. She re-verified my information (SSN & PIN) and 5 minutes later she came back on the phone and said its set to ship express and for my "troubles" she was refunding my shipping fee of $26.

Just got the confirmation email an hour saying it was shipped and I still have Unlimited data on My Verizon. So stoked that this actually worked.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I used the Verizon Chat on-line and they changed my phone over from the Droid Bionic to the Galaxy S4. They asked for SIM# and Phone ID#, gave it to them and they transfered to the S4 without any changes in plan...Worked well, just took about 20 minutes for them to do it...small cost for keeping my unlimited plan...:<)

Thanks to all!

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I got my S5 last night and activated it with my old SIM card from my Galaxy Nexus. The whole process went off without a hitch. I checked VZW a few hours later and it showed the S5 with UDP still intact.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

For people that have completed this successfully - when prompted to either port your current number or to assign a new number prior to final check out - how did you proceed? I am guessing that I should porting my current number but am just looking to get a confirmation from someone that has successfully completed this. Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Phone got here yesterday, took the Sim card out of my old one, put it in the new one, turned it on, immediately recognized and off we went. Nothing to it. Checked my verizon online and I still have UDP, and still have two upgrades available, as I should. I don't even see the pending data plan on the dumb phone, might have dropped off already.

I Was Never Asked That When I Ordered mine.

How would I do that? Pay full price for the phone??

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

When I try to add it to my single line account I get the message "There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.

Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default." after I click upgrade phone. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just did it....Went thru the order process on the HTC site for the M8, took screen shots everywhere it said no plan change, no change in plan cost...

Will see what happens in the next few days...

Just checked the HTC site, and the M8 shipped today....

I haven't gotten any emails from HTC or Verizon, and my Verizon plan still shows UDP/Month-to-month...

How long did it normally take other folks to see the month-to-month change to 2- more years in the Verizon plan ?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I Did Mine Through The Best But Site But Mine Changed instantly.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

OK, so I've read through this thread and I just want to make sure I have everything right before ordering so that I don't lose my UDP:

My situation: one UDP line eligible for upgrade (currently Razr Maxx, want to upgrade to Note 3)

My understanding:
1. Go to BB.com, select the Note 3
2. Select "Keep Current Plan" and add it to the cart.
3. Continue through the BB order process. Question: it gives me the option to pick it up in store, or ship it to my house. Will I have any problems if I pick it up in store (I live near one). Has anyone done this?
4. When I get my new phone, take my SIM card from my old Maxx and put it in my new Note 3, but don't call to activate it.
5. The new Note 3 should automatically activate with the old SIM and I get to keep my UDP

Does this sound right? Also, if anyone can comment on picking up in store, that would be much appreciated.

Why would you do this? The directions specifically say NOT to do this...

You did something wrong. There should be nothing about porting numbers involved...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks, exarkun. I missed this the first time.

One more question: It seems a lot of people got "problem with your order" emails from BB when they tried to upgrade a secondary line. I only have one line, so don't anticipate this issue, but if I do get the email, what should I do? It seems people are not contacting best buy because that causes problems, and just waiting a week or so for the order to automatically cancel. But in that scenario, how do you get the phone? Do you just keep trying again?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just tried to buy a Galaxy S 5 from Best Buy online to keep my ULD plan and now it says st the bottom..there's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans. You will be switched to a 2g plan by default. I guess I was s day late here. Is there any other way. I have a family plan with one ULD and the others with 4g. I need a new phone but don't want to spend 600 dollars on one either.

I just try again after BB Cancels and if you dont have a Billing Password set up do so before you order again.

Read the last 6 pages it has said that for a bit now, it still works if you follow the instructions.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I tried again using Chrome and I was no longer prompted for porting the number. Thanks for the heads up. I am considering holding off until the new S5 Prime / Galaxy F comes out - anyone have any suggestions on if it is worth holding out or is this trending towards going away soon.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I tried a second time via BB...the only change I made this time was to create a billing password. Success! (At least ordering the device.) It is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I will let you know what happens once I swap SIM cards.
