[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

There is just one question I have seen conflictin(g info on:

I transferred my upgrade to a 2gb line and bought the G3. Do I need to activate the phone on the 2gb line first, or can I just put in my existing SIM card from my UDP line?

Ditto.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok guys, time to share my experience.

So I preordered the lg g3 on Sunday, 7/13 and got my phone today, 7/17, and my udp is still here. So I can tell you that preordering does not negatively impact our udp. Now onto the method I used which I got from our fellow members.

I first transferred my udp upgrade to a dumb phone line and ordered the new phone,
Then I wait for the phone to arrive.
When the phone finally arrives, I then pull out the SIM card that came with it and put my old SIM card into the new phone and turned on the device. I did not even have to activate or deactivate anything. It's just like turning your old phone on when you turned it off the previous night.

Although it's only been a few hours, my udp is still here but the pending on the dumb phone line still has not drop off yet. By pending, I mean the notice that tells you that Verizon's system indicates I ordered a phone recently and is still waiting for me to activate it on that line. I hope it will eventually drop off and don't have to call verizon.

Good luck to you all and thanks the member that has helped me keeping the udp!

PS If anything happens to my udp, I will be sure to come back and post to you guys and if nothing happens after my billing cycle ends, I will still come back and do a follow up.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

May I ask what is the plan B?

Since I'm trying to do an upgrading for a 3g line that does not have a sim card and using the sim I received from Verizon did not work. I have a galaxy nexus laying around that I will get the sim with and use that sim when I order again from BB.

I will have to cut the sim since LG G2 uses Micro-sim and g-nex uses the regular sim. Most of the success stories are using the old sim that they stick it into the new phone or cut it and use it. So I will go that route even if it means going the extra mile.

If you didn't activate the new phone on your dumb line with the new SIM card I'm pretty sure you skipped the part of accepting the contract on the dumb line, which is accomplished by activating the new phone on the line that it was upgraded on.

You more then likely will get a message from Verizon stating you have not accepted the new contract and will be charged retail price. If i understand correct.

I could be, but that's the way it's always been explained to me, activating the new phone on the line it was upgraded on completes the upgrade.

I understand what you mean. When I look in the my verizon app, my line has been associated with the new phone but my udp contract is still month to month. There is no indication of any lines being extended.

But several pages back in this thread have members indicating that they did the same way as I and their pending on the dumb phone has drop off eventually and for the ones not so lucky, I think they had to call verizon which I don't remember them posting their experience with the conversation. But hopefully, the pending will eventually drop off. Worst case scenario is I lose udp but we'll see in one week or at least til my billing cycle ends, which is early next month.

No, I've done exactly what cootiesboy did. I still have my UDP intact since November. Then I did it again in January for my wife's phone she still has UDP intact. Been doing this since UDP's were discontinued with 4 lines all UDP's still intact.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I still can't figure out how to get my galaxy 5 to work to make phone calls. I put in my Sim card from my iPhone 4s and it isn't working. :(

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do??

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you ordered it through Verizon you can just put your existing SIM card in from your UDP line. The pending activation on your 2gb line will just fall off anywhere from immediately to 1 week. Some people doing this with a Best Buy phone there is a hick-up on the pending activation and you might have to call to get the pending activation off.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys, interesting development...

So I was able to pre-order a LG G3 through Best Buy Mobile online AND have the option to ship to home. During the process of ordering the phone, I had the choice of "choose exiting plan." I was going to swap the SIM card from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to activate the G3 to keep UDP.

However, a Best Buy Mobile rep just called and told me that they will cancel my order to change to store pickup due to a "glitch" in their system. He said that currently, store pickup is the only option...meaning, the SIM card trick will no longer work. He also said that shipping option is not available only because the warehouse is out of stock of G3s. When they become in stock, shipping option "should" be available.

The other twist is that if I want the phone to be shipped, then I have to cancel my current order and re-order. When I go through the ordering system, it now forces you to switch over to the 2GB plan.

The question to all of you is, even if the website says I will be forced onto the 2GB plan, if I wait until the G3 is in stock for shipping and try the SIM card trick, do you think it'll work? I realize that no one has been able to do this yet, but just wanted your thoughts on it.

I'm debating whether to open a dumbphone line and pay $10/month extra, buy the G3, then switch it onto my unlimited line vs. waiting for the G3 to be in stock at the warehouse.

Thoughts?

ADDENDUM:
I just went to a nearby Verizon store, and they told me that opening up a dummy line, paying $10/month, buying a new smartphone on the dummy line, and switching the new phone to an UDP line no longer works. After a month or two, computer can detect that the new phone purchased on the dummy line is now used on the UDP line and will force customers to deactivate the smartphone on the UDP line. If this is true, then you're stuck paying $10/month for 2 yrs while not being able to use the new smartphone on your UDP line. The rep said that there are many customers who are upset about this, but apparently somewhere in the contract, it says you can't do that. Truth or lie, who knows! The question is, would you risk being stuck paying $10/month for 2 yrs and not being able to use the smartphone on the UDP line just to keep the UDP?

If you've been following this 127 page thread you'd most likely suspect the Verizon CSR's are lying. There have been many instances of especially the in-store CSR bold face lying, make up stories to scare you into giving up your UDP. Perhaps one day they will be telling the truth but so many of their stories have not.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

For those of you who cannot get the G3 shipped to your home or don't have a dummy line or don't want to open a new dummy line, an alternative is to use Verizon Max. Although Verizon Max was initially advertised as a way for you to buy into Verizon Edge, this is no longer true. You could give up your unlimited data you pay for $30 in exchange for 6GB per line per month (not shared data) for $30 with a 2 year contract. Basically, if you use less than 6GB a month, it is similar to having UDP. What's unclear is when this promotion ends and if you could reactivate it at the end of your 2 year term. There is a chance you may lose this deal after 2 years, but for those who are willing to give in and lose UDP, this is likely the best option.

I switched yesterday. When I called Verizon about a issue with my bill, CSR made me aware of Max deal (6gigs for$30 for "loyal"customers (UDP) I've never gone over 3.5 gigs in a month , I was wasting. $$ keeping. UDP phone was delivered today

How do I get one??

If you have an verizon lte phone around or one you can borrow you can ask verizon to send you an lte sim to use with that phone. You can call them and they can mail you.
