[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

What number did you call? Did they ask you about the phone? Like where you got it from?

I dont remember what number I called he was just a customer service rep. They did not ask me about the phone, which is a S5. I did tell them I had a problem activating the phone, and that I did order it through Best Buy. Like I said from the last post. " I told the CS rep before I activate I just wanted to make sure I was keeping my UDP, because when I ordered my phone it said I could keep my current plan. I was thinking if I lose my UDP I could return the phone before activating it to Best Buy and keep my current plan." Droid3r is probably right I did not tell them it was an upgrade, and they didn't ask.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

About to order the LG G3 from Verizon website. Just want to make sure I am doing this right

I have
Line 1: Smartphone UDP (Upgrade available)
Line 2: Dumbphone (Upgrade available)

Line 2 will stay as dumbphone, should I just use the upgrade on Line 2 to order the LG G3?
When it comes in, just use the SIM card from my Samsung Galaxy S3. The pending data plan will eventually drop on Line 2 and everything will remain the same?

Yes you have it right. Order LG G3 on Line 2 using upgrade available on Line 2. When it comes take your SIM from your Line 1 S3 and put it in the new LG G3. Pending data plan you selected for Line 2 will eventually drop off and your Dumbphone and plan will remain undisturbed and you'll have LG G3 on your Line 1 UDP.

I have a question... If he or she in the same situation didn't have upgrade avilable on line 2 what would you do in that case? Transfer the upgrade and than when the phone arrives do the same as you mentioned?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

i have been wondering why the Verizon G3 is the only one on the Best Buy site that doesn't allow shipping. Both AT&T and Sprint have allowed it the entire time it seems. I know the Verizon G3 will be able to be shipped in the following weeks sometime but why be the only company delaying it? Think its for the very reason this thread exists? They must know about it by now

Yes, transfer upgrade to non UDP line, order phone. Activate on UDP line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey all,

I have attempted this method successfully with a new LG G3, just waiting on the pending activation to drop from the upgrade line. I have unlimited data and everything is working great so far. It's only been 3 days so far, so I'm patiently waiting for that activation to drop.

I just registered this account to ask one question, what should I do if the activation does not drop after a week? I see three options:

A. Call verizon and ask them to remove the pending activation. I'm not sure how to conduct this conversation or what to say, any advice?
B. Deactivate the LG G3 and reactivate the old phone on the UDP line. Then temporarily activate the G3 on the tiered line to remove the pending activation. Eventually I would deactivate the phone again and bring it back to the UDP line.
C. Place the new sim card that came with the G3 into the phone currently being used on the tiered line. Has anyone done this before?

Thanks and a special thanks to dss2000, you've been answering questions from people for a large portion of this thread (even if the answer is only a few pages back...) and have been very helpful

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Well I ordered the htx one m8 through BB's website Friday night and the order is still pending. I'll be sure to report back my findings once I receive the device.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So going this route, I wouldn't need to do anything with the sim cards? It seems like there are conflicting ways to go about this if I'm reading it right. Some say I would need to switch Sim cards and then activate it.

Is there any advantage to getting g3 from bestbuy picking up at store vs ordering from Verizon vs going to Verizon store? Would I run into any problems at either place?

Last thing is if I do this, the dumb line upgrade is used up and im locked for 2 years, but the UDP lines upgrade is still available?

But ready to lose UDP by going to VZ direct? Not for me thanks. I'd rather buy a used G2 on eBay and do a Bill-Me-Later for 6 months!

I never said I was going to a verizon retail store I'm doing the alternate upgrade via verizon.com!

My understanding was that VZ won't allow an alternate upgrade and keep your UDP?

Got some info from BB rep: "Once we receive another shipment to our warehouse the LG G3 will be available for shipping. We have to wait until the Manufacturer releases the shipment so we don't have a set date."

When asked about estimated arrival date of shipment and when the sale ends: "This sale will end 7/26/2014 and with this item being in high demand I'm pretty sure we will have a shipment in before the sale ends."

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I know you can transfer an upgrade from one line to another and order a phone online - at the same time - via Verizon or Best Buy. However, can you transfer the upgrade and order the phone later? This does not appear to be allowed on the Verizon website. Can a VZW customer service rep do it? If they did, would you lose the unlimited data (there seems to be conflicting information about this)?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Actually, no, what he did was very different. He did not transfer an upgrade from an UDP line to another line. Nor did he use a non-UDP line's upgrade.

What he did was use his UDP line's upgrade on his UDP line to purchase a phone through Best Buy online. He was not forced to pick a new plan. Then when the new phone came in the mail, instead of activating the phone on his UDP line using the SIM card that came in the phone, he activated the new phone using a SIM card from his old phone that was on his UDP line.

So the key points here are:

1) purchase a new 4G LTE smartphone through best buy online using the upgrade on your UDP line and do not pick a new plan;
2) have the new 4G LTE smartphone shipped to your house NOT to the store; and
3) remove the SIM card that comes with the new 4G LTE smartphone phone and replace it with the SIM card from the 4G LTE smartphone that is already on your UDP line and then activate the new 4G LTE smartphone on your UDP line.

So, will this not work if you can't use the same sim card on the new phone??? For instance... the phone I have had is an iPhone 4S. I purchased a samsung galaxy 5s from BB.

From my understanding, the galaxy is a 4LTE, but the iPhone isnt. How can I get this to work???

But why transfer the upgrade just to wait to order?

Isn't this thread exactly about doing an alternate upgrade and keeping UDP? Alternate upgrade - transfer upgrade to non UDP and order phone then either use old sim in new phone or activate new phone on non UDP line then reactivate old phone freeing up new phone for UDP line.

To the best of my understanding, not exatly. Everyone's been talking about upgrading your own UDP line by getting the phone shipped to you from BB because they allow you to "retain your plan" when you go through the process. Once you receive the phone, remove the SIM card (without activating new phone) and replace it with the one from your old phone. If you have an original sized SIM like from my Bionic, you'll need to cut it down to make it fit. By moving the SIM card from the old phone to the new phone you are effectively moving UDP.

From what I've read, trying to move your upgrade to another phone that does not have an upgrade will kill your UDP. If this is incorrect then I'm all ears!

There was also an alternate post that talked about going into a BB store for another method: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...et-phone-subsidized-price-57.html#post3764764

That is the best buy method but there is another thread that talks about the alternate upgrade and keeping UDP and it is also mentioned by others on this thread. Here is the other thread.

Yes, and I've read that thread, however there's a catch, in that you'll never get to use your own upgrade to get a phone. In my case, I have 3 other lines on my account, all of which have the 2GB of data each + my UDP line. If I used an available upgrade on one of those lines and then switched out the SIMs, that line could not upgrade for another 2 years. Wife and kids are not willing to give up their upgrade for my sake LOL. So at least this BB method allows you to have your cake and eat it too so to speak...
