[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I can confirm that this still works. We have four phones on UPD family plan (all unlimited). After many different tries we finally hit on it and got all four phones changed from galaxy S3s to shiny new Galaxy S5s. Just follow the directions and switch the sim cards.
We kept getting the email about a "problem with the order" fro Best Buy. We called them and canceled those. Initially we got only one to go through. Then we figured out only phone orders on the primary or first line will work. We transferred eligibility one at a time to the primary line and ordered all four phones. We waited for one to ship before ordering the next one. We never got the "problem with the order" email from Best Buy on the phone that was ordered on the primary line. BTW the primary line it turns out was not the same line as the primary account holder. It turns out it was the first phone on that data plan that was activated 5 years ago. If you don't know which one it is, just order a phone on all lines, if one goes through, cancel all the "problem with order" phones and keep transferring the eligibility to that line that worked and order another....and another, until all phones are upgraded. It doesn't matter what phone goes with the swapped old sim card from the old phone.
it feels good to Screw Verizon after what they did to UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

ordered my phone today from BB, will update you asap.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hi StayFly, did you ever get an answer to your question about store pickup of a gift phone?

no sir , I just open a new line at Verizon, but if someone can show proof that this works I will return and go thru bb.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I also noticed that Verizon LG G3 is the only one that can't be shipped, things that make you go hhmmmm.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

You can also activate new sim online instead of calling Verizon

How? And have you done it?

I looked it up on how to do it. But I can't try it because I'm still waiting for the phone to be delivered(still has not shipped) also all of you that are upgrading from a 3g to 4g why are you not using the online activation system? Does it not work? I mean it's less risky than talking to verizon rep and have the activate your sim.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This is not entirely accurate. There are a handful of people on another forum reporting that they've ordered subsidized phones from Amazon and been able to keep their UDP. Apparently, it doesn't really matter what data plan you choose when ordering the phone as long as you don't use the SIM card that they send with the phone; use your current SIM card.

Here is an answer to the "can I use Amazon.com and keep UDP" in this thread

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon/351917-verizon-how-keep-unlimited-data-get-phone-subsidized-price-55.html#post3747869

Amazon requires you to "choose another data plan" and a new plan means you lose UDP.
BB gives the option of "keep existing plan."

I'm in the same boat as you, at least I was than you hopped on ferry. We also have 4lines all UDP and all available for upgrade. Can you explain what you mean by "It doesn't matter what phone goes with the swapped old sim card from the old phone?" So say I order the phone on the primary line 1 but when it arrives I stick the old sim on any other line besides the line i used the upgrade on it will work?
Line 1 (Primary) UDP with upgrade
Line 2 UDP with upgrade
Line 3 UDP with upgrade
Line 4 UDP with upgrade

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

this is my question.

I currently have a gnex with unlimited data

I used an upgrade on another line, which is a phone my mothers ex boyfriend uses.. she continues to pay the 9.99 because she is a good woman :P

this is my thing, I used the upgrade on that line. I'm having the GS5 shipped to me, I HAVE to activate it through his line first? I can't just get the phone, put in my sim card, and activate it? will that forfeit my UDP?

the problem is I don't have access to the actual phone on the account (my mothers ex has it) so I don't know how I would be able to put service back on that phone if I don't have it.

We already get xlte!

Thanks. I guess because XLTE isn't available in my city I don't know. I am glad this is working for all. This is like the best case scenario it seems like.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I just made an account to confirm that picking up the Verizon G3 at the BestBuy store works. I used a line with a non-UDP plan and bought the phone on that line for $99. I picked it up at the store (they activate it right there) and simply activated the old phone back on that line when I arrived home. Verizon's activation page wasn't working shortly after so I decided to just put my sim in the G3 and it was fine. I've been smooth sailing since and my plan on the website still shows me as having UDP.

Just want to thank everybody for the methods! :)

Was this phone ordered thought Verizon. If so just put the SIM from your GNex in it and your done. No need to have the basic phone in hand, won't interrupt the basic phone service, it will remain at $9.99 / mo. Pending activation will eventually fall off within about a week.

yes purchased via VZW online. That simple? Just pop in my own SIM? :D

always heard I had to activate it on the line it was ordered from first

that's awesome! :D

If you did that the pending activation should fall off much sooner but will interrupt service on basic for a short time.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My situation,

Line 1: UDP upgradable
Line 2: UDP upgradable

My understanding is that I can use the Flying Arrow method and order the phones off verizon.com and activate them on the opposite lines and i should be able to keep UDP on both. Question i have is do i have to upgrade both phones right now for this to work properly or can I wait to upgrade one of the lines? Line 2 is a iphone and id like to wait until the new release in the fall if possible to update that phone while still preserving UDP on both lines. My thought is if possible id order the new M8 on line 2 (currently an iphone 4s) and activate it on line 1. I assume ill have to select a tiered shared plan on line 2 when i order but that would go away since the new phone would not be activated on the line it was ordered from. Then, assuming my line 1 still keeps its upgrade even after activating the new phone to it (??), I would order the new iphone from line 1 when it comes out in the fall and activate on line 2. If this is possible ill do it but it does seem like a bit of a risk since i'm not securing new phones and UDP on both lines now. If it wouldn't work ill just do the Flying Arrow method and order a 5S on line 1 to activate on line 2. Any thoughts??? Thanks!

That's how it was described by the OP but that step isn't necessary and doing so would interrupt the service on the basic phone service. Even once you put the basic phone back on the line through the website you would still have to go through the *228 activation on the basic phone to reactivate it. I learned it the hard way, did that with my wife's basic phone while she was traveling and she took it to a Verizon store thinking it was defective. Next time upgrading through my in-laws basic phone I bypassed the activation/deactivation step and just put the SIM in the new phone. Much simpler and the basic phone's service was never disrupted.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just added my new line today online. Phone will arrive tomorrow. I have my old flip phones ready to go with confirmed good esns.

I had to make some changes to text messaging plans, but that did not appear to disrupt my calling or data plans.

Looking forward to tomorrow

EDIT: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ited-grandfathered-data-verizon-loophole.html

Are the procedures listed here in a step by step format needed? Or is it as simple as
1. Turn on new line by turning on phone, then turn phone off.
2. Go online, activate dumb phone on extra line.
3. Take SIM from UDP, put in new phone, and turn new phone back on.

Step 1. The instructions for activating the phone should come with the phone. The process changes slightly from time to time. Before you would go online to activate the phone, entering in the MEID number of the phone and the # on the SIM. I think more recently it already knows the MEID of the phone and the SIM so you might be able to just turn it on to activate it. Then yes proceed with steps 2 & 3 as you have above.
