[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I just searched a dozen threads around here and didn't find the threads you are referring to. Could you point me to those threads?

Are you saying that you were able to do this AFTER 8/24?

Thanks for your help :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Anyone have any ideas on my 4G problem? I dont seem to have 4G on my Galaxy S5.

Does your SIM say 4G on it? Also in settings/more settings/mobile networks/network mode it should be set to either "global" or "LTE/CDMA"

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Could someone confirm if it is (or will be) possible to purchase the new iphone 6 at full retail and keep an unlimited Verizon data plan?
If so, could you outline the steps I will need to take to do it. Can the phone be purchased from any retailer? Thanks!

Well I didn't read the SIM card but it came out of my previous 4G device (galaxy nexus). And I confirmed it was set to GLOBAL. I switched it to LTE/CDMA and I didn't see a change. Switched it back to Global.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You certainly can. Although the most expensive route, simply buy the phone from any store or online, activate the phone by turning it on along with the preinstalled sim card, it will either prompt you to call to activate your phone or you can do it on myverizon.com and follow the steps it outlines for you. If buying at store they will do it for you. Just make sure you watch them like a hawk as to not change your data plan (if they were to do this they would be making a huge mistake as they can't do this without your permission since you are buying the phone at full price). The reason you keep your unlimited is because you're not changing your data plan nor committing to a new two year contract. Although you will fall under the "network optimization" come October since you will not be on a new two-year contract. You can look that one up. : )

That post doesn't say anything about after 8/24.

I searched a few other threads, but still came up with nothing about anybody ordering after 8/24. :(

Probably because it was only 3 days ago. Give it a few days?

Re: Verizon: Unlimited data Plan - How Much Longer?

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to make an update.

A few days ago I used my upgrade to go from a Droid Razr Maxx 2 to the Moto X. I had previously been grandfathered in with the Unlimited Data plan, and never once had an issue upgrading. When I went to upgrade, I didn't get any notifications about switching plans or features, nor any "by clicking this you agree to blah-blahs" and when prompted to pick a new plan, I chose "I do not wish to switch plans at this time."

When I got my new phone in the mail, I activated it and checked "My Verizon," and they had switched me to the 2GB data plan without notifying me that they would. I called Verizon support, and the rep (who claimed to be a tier-2 employee) told me it was impossible for me to keep my UDP and upgrade my phone, because they do not offer it anymore with the new phones.

I WAS told that I could go to a Verizon store, reverse the upgrade, and they could restore my UDP to my old phone, but I would not be able to upgrade and keep my UDP, because for some "reason" that the rep couldn't explain, the new phones are "not compatible" with the UDP. This sounded like utter BS, and I'm pretty pissed that VZ would do that.

I was also told that after reverting the upgrade, I would "lose" my free upgrade.

What did your receipt or confirmation page say?

Sometimes when I'm in a 3G area it gets stuck and won't change over. I'll go to airplane mode then out of airplane mode to re-aquire a signal to get 4G. Otherwise perhaps have Verizon check it out.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks rdjr74. I doubt that I am in the top 5% of all users, but that's good to know. I realize that route is not the cheapest, but it seems like from what I am reading here it may be the only one? I am just not ready to give up the UDP yet.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This doesn't work anymore. If you go to Best Buy and try to upgrade there's a note at the bottom of the page that says the following,

"There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.

Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."

And if it still works I don't know how anyone is getting around it.

This says nothing about after the 24th...

FYI that warning on the BB page has been there for months. I DO NOT KNOW if it it is still possible to upgrade to a new device and keep the UDP. I do know this very message was shown to me 6 weeks ago when I bought my new smartphone and did keep my UDP.

Either am I. They determined that anyone on an UDP and using 4.7gb of data falls into the top 5% which I think is BS. That number seems way to low. I don’t do anything out of the ordinary on my plan and I probably use on average 6-8gb per bill cycle.

I will tell you how I plan to upgrade and get the phone at the subsidized price. By transferring an upgrade to a line that I recently put on a 2gb data plan. As this loophole has closed (where you can transfer an upgrade to a basic line, select a data plan then switch it back to a basic line), my plan was never to use the loophole. My UDP line is eligible for an upgrade so I will transfer it to that line, activate the phone on it, then switch that line back to the original phone (iPhone 5s : / ) , then remove my sim card from my phone and place it into the new phone. I’m holding out for the Note 4. If you have this scenario available you should consider this.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

So last month i followed the same steps to upgrade my phone and keep my unlimited data, and everything worked fine.

today i tried to do the same to upgrade my brothers phone, but after the order was placed i got another email saying there was a problem with my order and i had to call them to continue. I called and they had said the verification with verizon to upgrade the phone was having issue. They then said that to continue they had to confirm with verizon, but noted that the line had unlimited data, and i had to agree to change to the 2gb plan first. i cancelled the order, and then a few hours later tried again, and now i've gotten the same message again.

is this new? if i call to continue the order will my plan actually change? or only if i use the new sim card when the phone arrives?

I would cancel and try again. I'm assuming your brothers line is a secondary line correct? Some have had issues with such lines. Do you happen to have another line you can transfer it to? Someone else can chime in if they have more help :(

FOR ALL USERS WHO ATTEMPT TO USE THE BEST BUY METHOD TO PURCHASE A DEVICE AND KEEP UDP

If you place an order and get an email or phone call regarding a problem with your order
do not call in - cancel your order immediately
failure to cancel the order will cost you your UDP

There is no way to salvage your order and keep your UDP. Once the UDP is taken off your VZW account it can take weeks to restore it...if it can be restored and requires you to return the new phone back to BB and the whole process has to start over

yeah i read that after the fact the first time, but i think i got lucky the BB rep wanted me to confirm i'd lose my UDP first, and let me cancel it. ive checked the account and its still showing UDP on the line. now the current order i made, how can i cancel it without calling in anyway? i dont see an option online since it says my order is processing.

and i think when i upgraded my phone, i remember a popup along the way specifically mentioning to keep my existing plan, but today there was no such option anywhere.
