[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What if I get them to give me an early upgrade and switch it to the line without the UDP??

Re: Methods that will allow you to both get a subsidized phone and keep UDP after 8/24/14

I have an iPhone 4S on an UDP line, eligible for upgrade;
My wife has a Samsung S3 on a 2GB TDP line, not eligible for an upgrade yet.

Can I swap the upgrade from my line to hers, activate her S3 on my line & my 4S on her line, then when I get the iPhone 6, put the sim card from the S3 into the iPhone 6?

Will that automatically activate the iPhone 6 on the UDP line?
Will I be able to use the sim card that came with the iPhone 6 in my wife's S3 to re-activate it back to her TDP line?
How long would I need to have the S3 on the UDP line before swapping the card to the iPhone 6?

So my wife will have to use my 4S (with a cracked screen) while I wait for the 6 to ship? She won't be too happy about that!! :)

Also, are the iPhone & Samsung sim cards interchangeable?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everyone,

I've been reading through quite a bit of this thread and don't believe my current situation is one that is similar to anything described in past posts. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have three lines on an old America's Choice plan:
Line 1: basic phone - upgrade available
Line 2: iPhone 5 with UDP - upgrade available
Line 3: basic phone - upgrade available

Back when I got the iPhone 5, I used the old loophole - I used the upgrade from Line 1 (with a $50 VZ credit no longer gives) and activated it. With the help of Apple employees with a nano SIM and VZ employees in store, I was able to get a new SIM for Line 2 and had the phone activated, keeping UDP.
Now that the loophole is closed, I'm wondering what my options are.
I don't think the Scyzek method would work for me, as I believe he used a TDP to upgrade and then used his old SIM with the new device. I don't have TDP to use for upgrading purposes. If I were to use a basic phone's upgrade, would I get locked into a $30 data plan if I stuck my SIM directly into the new phone to upgrade/would the data plan drop? (I wasn't sure if the data plan would drop post-8/24 on the basic phone line or if I'd get stuck with data on that line with a basic phone). I also read I could block data on that line once switching it back to the basic phone. Would that negate the $30 every month?
Also, to transfer a UDP upgrade to another line, would this require me to upgrade one of the basic phones to free up a line to transfer the upgrade to? And if I went that route would I still be able to switch SIMs directly to activate/have the data plan on the basic phone drop off?
I looked at the Flying Arrow Method as well, but don't think that would work for me since I am the only line with a data plan.

I'm curious if I have any other options here or if I'm going to be stuck with a 2GB data plan? If there's anything that has worked post-8/24 I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I'll be pre-ordering from Apple with my unlimited data upgrade line. Currently have a 5S.

I doubt Apple is any different if Amazon, Costco, and BB all work.

This is what I am doing as well. I think Apple will require you to say that you are choosing a TDP during checkout, but as long as the sim card gets swapped before you turn the phone on then it should work the exact same as Amazon or Costco.

I am just paranoid that Apple somehow messes with the sim card before shipping it and ruins my UDP. Guess I'll take the chance.

Can anyone confirm the Scyzek method worked these past few days, I'm thinking about ordering a m8 or s5.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have three lines on an old America's Choice plan:
Line 1: basic phone - upgrade available
Line 2: iPhone 5 with UDP - upgrade available
Line 3: basic phone - upgrade available

does the direct BB method not work anymore? I'm in a similar situation and was going to order from BB directly on the UDP line, and not use the sim it shipped with. I thought this was confirmed to still be working?

After that, other upgrades would require testing as mentioned above, by ordering directly on those lines, not using the shipped sim, and hoping data requirement is defeated.

Re: Keep unlimited data with iPhone 6 Plus

Ok thanks I understand all that when I go to sell it.

I was thinking and am curious if the below method will work as well.

Line 1: iPhone 5s Unlimited Data Plan
Line 2: iPhone 5s 2GB Tier Plan

Line 1 is eligible for an upgrade. Line 2 is not.

1) Transfer Line 1 upgrade to Line 2.
2) Preorder iPhone 6 Plus under Line 2.
3) When iPhone 6+ comes in activate it on line 2.
4) Then deactivate it through myverzion and activate the old iPhone 5s back.
5) Switch iPhone 6+ to Line 1 and activate.

Will this method work? It does not involve switching the sims cards, but not sure if I would lose unlimited data or not.

Are there any differences in the sim cards between the iPhone 5s or iPhone 6+. Like NFC?

Ok, so if I do all that and follow scyzek method then afterwards I can order and upgrade to the NFC sim and keep my UDP?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Admittedly I skimmed some of the previous 84 pages, but I did read some of it. Also, I'm starting to get confused on what I read where.

Anyway, I currently have #1 UDP, #2 TDP (2gb + double data)[wife's], #3 TDP (2gb), #4 dumby (let's ignore that but I'm trying to be thorough) 1 and 2 both have an upgrade on them. #3 is about a year old, so I don't want to push the upgrade date on that one back any further if I don't have to.
Would I be best to upgrade #2 then switch #1's upgrade to #2? Then upgrade #2 once wife makes up her mind on what phone? Or is that method not an option anymore, VZW rep says no, see quote below, but I've been told wrong by them plenty of times before.
This has probably been covered but my head is spinning from too much reading. Regarding the sim card issue with the BB mehtod. I currently have a Galaxy Nexus, probably going with the new Moto X when it's out. Will I have to cut the sim card I have or can I just go into Verizon store with the new phone without sim in it and ask them for a nano?
My current usage is very little, rough estimates are #1 1GB, #2 .5 to 1GB, #3 less than .5GB I've been holding onto the UDP just out of principal, and peace of mind. Should I just go to the share everything plan that is close to what I'm paying now? I would only need 4GB, although Verizon's site tries upselling me to 6GB when I look at their plan recommendation thing. EDIT: The share everything is a rip off. For what I'm currently paying, I would only get 3GB to share between the lines, and that's even with their promo offer of 1GB extra per upgrade of #1 and #2

Edit: I was in a live chat while I was typing the post, but wanted to post first then add this. Trying to keep my thoughts in order is hard, sorry.

Is it possible to switch upgrades from one line to another? If I can, does that affect the contract date of the line the upgrade comes FROM or the line the upgrade goes TO?
Ariel: at 17:29:33
You will simply be swapping upgrade dates. And yes that is possible. If you are upgrading today I will walk you through the process and show you where to do this.
You: at 17:29:58
I'm just trying to get the details first, then I have to double check with the wife.
Ariel: at 17:30:40
Oh ok! Great that's understandable, definitely.
You: at 17:31:05
I have an unlimited data plan out of contract, so if I switch the upgrade to a tiered line, how does that affect the unlimited line?
Ariel: at 17:34:24
Unfortunately you will have to change the whole account and the unlimited line will no longer be unlimited.
You: at 17:34:37
Okay thank you.
Ariel: at 17:35:39
Definitely something to discuss.
Ariel: at 17:35:41
Also,
Ariel: at 17:35:45
An option for you.
You: at 17:35:44
I asked about this a couple months back and it wouldn't have affected the unlimited line. Was there a cutoff date that I missed?
Ariel: at 17:36:14
I would definitely give out Care Team a call as well, see about having them offer you a loyalty plan since you will losing your unlimited daya.
Ariel: at 17:36:16
*data.
Ariel: at 17:36:24
*our
Ariel: at 17:37:26
I've always heard that it was not possible, however, if there is a discrepancy in my knowledge I do apologize. And out Customer Care Team will be able to further assist you in being able to try and keep that data.
You: at 17:37:57
Thank you.
Ariel: at 17:40:00
I do apologize in having to defer you to another department, however I am just not authorized to offer you our Loyalty Plans, I only have access to what is available on the website.
Ariel: at 17:40:19
Are you interested in receiving that number today?
You: at 17:40:37
That is understandable, I'll have to call at a later time as I can't get service in my house.
You: at 17:41:17
One other question you may be able to help me with...
Ariel: at 17:41:59
Sure thing!
You: at 17:42:16
The tiered data plan has the double data promo, when it's time to upgrade that line, will I lose the double data?
Ariel: at 17:45:06
You shouldn't lose your promotional data, the only reason why you would lose your unlimited data by ordering through me is because we don't offer that plan on the website anymore.
You: at 17:45:25
Thank you. I think that is all I need today.

Re: Keep unlimited data with iPhone 6 Plus

I would if it would let me...

Following the link you gave me on step 1 part b it says Click Get NFC Secure Element SIM in the About My Device section. However the "Get NFC Secure Element SIM" in not in the about my device section in my verizon.

I decide to open my iphone 5s up and my sim looks just like the NFC in this picture below? So I may not need to order a new one since it is probably the newest one anyways?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

uploadfromtaptalk1410390469412.jpg I activated the phone on one of my UDP lines and my basic line is still on pay per use data. Worked great. Guess I'll do it on the other line soon too. What makes it even crazier is I added these basic lines back in April when the S5 was bogof, for some reason they never put a contract on the lines.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

It doesn't bother me, just want the easiest cheaper way. I usually go through Verizon. Last one was through Amazon. Haven't even decided on a phone yet, leaving toward the new Moto x.

Re: Verizon How to Both Get a Subsidized Phone and Keep Unlimited Data after 8/24/14

I have an iPhone 4S on an UDP line, eligible for upgrade;
My wife has a Samsung S3 on a 2GB TDP line, not eligible for an upgrade yet.

Would I be able to transfer the upgrade to my wife's line, order the 6, activate it on her TDP line, then switch it to my UDP line?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

would this work if i did it through verizon? I wanted to preorder the iphone this friday using my basic line upgrade and then using my TDP sim card to acitvate it when it comes in. thanks

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just put of curiosity I wonder what your ETF is on the line now.
My guess would be it's 350. I read on the Verizon forums that it's based on the last phone you bought. Is there a spot on the website that shows you?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I would do the pre-order through Apple.com if you want to preorder.

So I pre-order on Apple.com using the basic line upgrade. When the iphone arrives, I use my TDP line's sim card to activate it? TIA

Will Apple ask me to pick a data plan? I hope this wont add the data plan for 2 years on the basic line.
