[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I also have some advice to those that have several lines with UDP on 3g you can buy one 4g phone and activate that phone on all the lines at once just using a diffrent sim card....I have done so....

Fred, here's my scenario below..
Line 1 - ip4s UDP upgrade avail.
Line 2 - ip5s UDP upgrade avail.
Line 3 - basic line no upgrade til 2015
All I need is an ip6 on either line 1 or line 2. What's the best way to accomplish this? Sounds like you have the same scenario. Also, i was advised by Verizon over the phone that if i transfer a UDP line to a basic line, i would lose my UDP. Not sure how true that is, as i can simulate transferring my upgrade eligibility online to my basic line without warning me about losing UDP. I appreciate your feedback..

I am going to once again share my experience on keeping the unlimited data. here is what I did I preoreder the iphone 6 transfering the upgrade to a dumb phone line and charging it to the account and once I got the iphone 6 took the sim card out and activated on a tiered data line, I did have the pending order for a week and it fell off dont know if by itself or because I called naggin about it ....still got the unlimited data on the line I did the transfer and for some reason I still have an upgrade available on that line it never was extended....and for some reason this is the second time it happens, was a few months ago did a transfer upgrade and the contract date was never extended. for one thing its good for me. My billing cycle just started again on the 11th of october and my unlimited data line is still unlimited. Im also gonna comment on the REDDIT guy saying that verizon is going to track the meid on the network if Verizon is gonna do that the few that are on unlimited data would of already been bumped off and a few years ago when I bought a smartphone on a subsided price the rep said that once you buy and sign the 2 yr contract the phone is yours to do as you please ....haven said that until verizon announces any thing officially ....this loopholes will work benefiting both the customer and Verizon....cuz they will never say no to $$

So did the data plan ever get implemented on the basic phone line? Or did it just fall away when the pending activation fell off and you still had the basic line at $9.99 because you never activated it on the basic line?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Welll since you already have an Iphone 5s on line 2 I would just get a nano sim and activate it the iphone 5s on line 1 since that is an iphone 4s and does not have a 4g sim after doing that you can transfer the upgrade on my verizon and order and have it shipped to home once you recieve it remove the sim card that comes with the iphone 6 before you turn it on and activate with the sim on line 1 and you should be good to go...also keep a eye on your UDP that its not dropped... good luck

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

the data plan was never implemented on the basic phone line ...and it still on the $9.99 and like I said the pending activation fell off after a week...

this is huge. Almost sounds too good to be true. Basically it means if you have a dumbphone line on your account, you can avoid losing unlimited data AND avoid adding data to the dumbphone simply by not activating the new smartphone on the dumb line and swapping in the sim from your UDP.

I'm curious to know how the conversations went with you "nagging" about the pending activation. Did the CSR's never mention the fact that you ordered a smartphone on the dumbphone line and never activated it? Calling about the pending activation seems risky with how quick CSR's are to force people off unlimited.

If this is in fact true, I know exactly how I'll be getting my Note 4 soon then :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I'm still not sure what method I need to use. Best Buy is still telling me it can't ship a Droid Mini for keep existing plan.

Line 1: UDP smartphone no upgrade
Line 2: UDP smartphone upgrade eligible (this is the phone I want to upgrade to a Droid Mini)
Line 3: dumbphone with upgrade eligible

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Tried again today to get a Droid Mini at Best Buy, it still says "can't ship, try another address or pick up in store".

So if I have two UDP, one eligible, one not, and one dumbphone that's eligible. The eligible UDP phone is the one that wants a Droid Mini now. If I can even get Best Buy to work, do I need to transfer the upgrade from the UDP phone that I actually want to upgrade to the other one and order on that? Or do I order on the dumbphone? Will either work? Is Best Buy just done now? I'm so tired of all this. This isn't even for me.
You need to make an account AND register your credit card. Ultimately some phones are only available for pickup though.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ah, I haven't seen that mentioned before. I'll try that.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Went through that time. Thanks! There was another confirmation step and all the agreements and stuff that it had been skipping or something. We'll see if I get an e-mail about problems or if it just works right.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Could someone please help me out? My brain hurts from reading so much about trying to keep my unlimited data. It also doesn't help that some places say conflicting things about what works and what doesn't.

I have a Galaxy Nexus and just bought a Galaxy S5. I have unlimited data with an upgrade available on my account. The Nexus is the only phone I have on my account. The phone I bought is brand new and has never been activated. Now what do I have to do to keep my unlimited data since I already have the new phone ready to go and the unlimited data with upgrade available? Also going from the Nexus to S5 will I have to trim my existing SIM card?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. I was just at the Verizon store a few weeks ago and the employee there told me I could simply buy a new phone from anywhere I please, come in and swap out the service on my current phone and be able to keep my existing unlimited data plan. From what I've been reading that no longer seems to be the case so that employee must not have known what she was talking about. Thanks again.

If you bought the phone out right from somebody else or even Verizon then yes you will keep unlimited no matter what. I think the GN SIM will fit so just put it in the new phone. If not yes you can go to Verizon and do it without losing anything.

Awesome, thank you so much. Yeah I bought the phone from somebody and it is brand new, never been activated or even turned on. They removed the SIM card because they felt it would be connected to their account since they purchased it from the Verizon store online before deciding to sell the phone and go with an iPhone 6.

I got all sorts of confused when I read to not bring my phone to Verizon no matter what to switch my services over. The whole Best Buy thing is what started confusing me I think. Thanks again.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am getting my new moto x tomorrow, however I used my wife's line to upgrade since she is on a tiered plan. She is not getting home till late.

Should I just cut my Sim card to fit and use it?

Should I wait and activate it on her line first then cut my Sim?

Is there any way I can use the nano Sim that comes with it? Don't want to lose my unlimited...

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone know if after using the BB method, how long the "pending activation" status will stay on my account? I bought my phone 3 weeks ago. Also, can my old phone be sold or is it still connected to my line since the activation is still pending?
Thanks.

Thanks, that's great. Confirms my suspicion that you can avoid getting stuck with the new $30/mo data charge policy upgrading through the basic line by never activating the phone on the basic line but just inserting the SIM from the UDP line into the new phone allowing the pending to fall off and never get implemented. This is huge.

What kind of phone does your wife currently have? If it uses a micro-SIM and since you're upgrading via your wife's tiered data plan you can activate it on her line first, then put her phone back on the line freeing the new phone and the new SIM. Then activate the SIM and new Moto X on your UDP line.

Where did you buy the Galaxy S5 from? If you purchased it from Verizon at full retail price, or from Amazon or eBay or Craigs List you can just take the SIM from your Galaxy Nexus and put it into the Galaxy S5 and preserve your UDP (assuming it hasn't been reported stolen and has a bad MEID). If you ordered it using your upgrade at a subsidized price from Verizon and selected a tiered data plan you'd lose UDP if you then activate it on that line. If you ordered it subsidized from Best Buy you would throw away the SIM that came with the phone before ever turning it on, put your old SIM from your Galaxy Nexus in the new phone and turn it on (Best Buy Method).

She has a galaxy s4, not sure what Sim that is.

Can you explain the steps a little further, never done this. Thanks for all your help! :-)
