[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does the method of deactivating the S6, reactivating the previous phone, and activating the S6 towards the UDP Line work?
When using sim cards you don't deactivate the phone. Whatever phone the active sim is currently in is the active phone. To switch phones you just need to swap SIMs. The only issues are size of the sim (mainly Nano Vs Micro) or NFC.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well mission failed!!! They said the option to "keep current plan" was blacked out and I had to change the plan in order to switch the upgrade. I ended up just buying it retail price so I wouldn't lose the UDP

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone successful in actually mail ordering an VZW S6 from Best Buy? I'm only seeing in-store pickup as an option, no matter how many times I try.

You most likely will have to wait a while before they will ship the phone.

Were you trying to transfer the upgrade or purchase the phone directly in the store?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

FOLLOW UP...... FROM .....
I have 5 phone lines
L1: G2, Unlimted - upgrade available
L2: S3, Unlimted - upgrade available
L3: LG smart phone, 2GB- no upgrade available
I want to upgrade L1 and L2 and keep UDP.

It turns out the S5 via BB was defective (bad micro phone). I ended up returning S5 and waited couple of days to get the upgrade restored to the L2. And this time I re-ordered S5 from BB by transfer upgrade L2 to L3, instead of what suggested method through Verizon, only BB because still was offering S5 for $1, not any more. When the phone came, I tried activate the L3 with new phone and new simcard that was pre-installed. But it did not work, I tried at least a half dozen times and gave up. I end up trashing the pre-installed simcard. Then used L3's existing 2GB simcard and used the phone for 24 hours. Check the verizonwireless website confirmed that L3 was showing with S5. ....... Now this was wired, the L2 still had upgrade available with UDP, and L3 was shown with S5. What the hack is going on?

After 48 hours of using L3 with New S5, I restored the the existing L3's simcard back on L3 and now I have S5 as free phone and wired that L1 & L2 still shows that upgrade is available even after I have new phone from BB?

I don't want to call verizon for any reason for this upgrade issue. Why is the upgrade availability still shows on L2, will they catch this later on?

Can I use the new phone on L2? Can I use L2's UDP simcard in new S5? is there anything concern? will I loose UDP?

Sometimes when a person moves an upgrade from an unlimited line to a tiered line, Verizon's system does not actually get rid of the upgrade. It is safe to move the S5 to an unlimited line. You can just use the SIM that is already on Line 2 and will not loose the unlimited data plan.

Whatever you do, don't contact Verizon. Just activate the phone following the directions online.

Does the method of deactivating the S6, reactivating the previous phone, and activating the S6 towards the UDP Line work?

I'm just now catching up with your conversation with Mr. Toad. This is what you needed to do from the beginning after activating the S6 on Line 2. Just do the following:

1.) Power off the S6
2.) Log onto Verizon online and select "activate or switch device"
3.) Select Line 2 (should have a picture of the S6 on it)
4.) Select "Activate a phone that has been on the account previously"
5.) Select the previous phone that was on the account before upgrading to the S6 (I think you said the G2); hopefully, you still have the SIM that was with the phone
6.) Follow the directions to activate the old phone on Line 2

At this point, the S6 should no longer be on any line and is safe to be added to the unlimited plan. Just repeat the steps I listed above with the only changes being the line and the phone previously on the account (you'll select the S6 in this scenario).

By doing these steps, you reprogram the SIM cards to match the data plans on each line and will not lose your unlimited.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

L1: UDP Iphone w Upgrade Available
L2: UDP Iphone 5S with NO UPGRADE

L1 wants to keep same phone, L2 wants to upgrade to an Iphone 6. Can I order the Iphone6 on Line 1 using the BB method, then just throw out the sim, insert L2's 5S sim and activate the phone on L2?

That is exactly what you should do.

This was going to be the problem when picking it up in store. I'm sorry you had to pay full retail. If you return it and get your upgrade restored, the process will work through Verizon's website.

You will have to wait about a month or so before Best Buy will ship the S6 to homes. This is their standard practice with new phones in that they onlu allow pick up in store.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have been reading threads all day but I want to confirm that this won't end my UDP.

Line 1 UDP eligible for upgrade
Line 2 2 gig plan iPhone 5
Line 3-5 basic phones

I have a rooted Razr MAXX and I want to get the Samsung Galaxy 6S. Costco has a $30 rebate today only. Since BB won't ship for a month and Costco includes accessory package I was planning to buy online from Costco. I need to decide fast if I go through Costco.

I initially I planned on getting the upgrade for my wife's line and then just putting my sim card in it. If I understand correctly that would maintain UDP. Then I realized that I may be better off putting activating the new phone and sim card in the G6. After it is activated I can move the new sim card to my wife's iPhone and then put my UDP sim card in the S6. That would satisfy the upgrade rules and keep my UDP. Any problem with this method? Any risk of losing UDP? Is Costco or Amazon o.k. or is there some reason I must wait for Best Buy?

Ah ic, thanks for the info.

For anyone that's interested, I was able to get a nanoSIM pretty easily using the livechat on VZW's website. I just told them my friend was giving me his iphone 5 and I couldn't make it into a store due to my work schedule. Simple as that. Got the shipping notice the next day, should be here by Tuesday. Now to just obtain the phone :)

I would stay away from Costco. Some people on slickdeals.net have reported losing unlimited before the phone even shipped. If you want the phone now I would order from Verizon and transfer your upgrade from line 1 to Line 2.

Now I am definitely confused. I read the slick deals thread but missed the Costco issue. I am upgrading a limited data plan and they cancel UDP on another line? I was under the impression that it is dangerous to deal with Verizon but does that only apply to in store?

To my knowledge, the only two sites that allow the moving of upgrades are Best Buy and Verizon. I don't think you can manually move your upgrade over to the tiered line through Costco online. Now, you can try to do this in-store as Costco reps have the ability of moving upgrades to other lines. However, this is very much a "your mileage may vary" type situation. If you get a competent rep, you'll have no problems. An incompetent rep could very well cause you to lose your unlimited. This is why most people just ship to home.

If you don't want to wait for Best Buy, it is safe for you to order through Verizon online. Just do the following:

1.) Log on to Verizon and transfer your upgrade to Line 2 (the tiered line)
2.) Order the S6 and have it shipped to home
3.) When the S6 arrives activate it like normal onto Line 2
4.) Wait at least an hour and test calls, texts, and data. Make sure the S6 works
5.) Now power off the S6, log into Verizon online, and reactivate the iPhone 5
6.) Finally, activate the S6 on the unlimited line

These 6 steps will allow you to keep unlimited and get the S6 as soon as possible. If you would rather wait, that is fine too.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This is another request for direction...

Line #1 - UDL with an upgrade available.
Line #2 - Feature phone

A year and a half ago I used the upgrade that was available on line #2 and moved that phone over to line #1. I now would like to use the upgrade that is on line #1 and pass that phone on to a relative. I believe that I may need to move the upgrade that is on line # 1 to line #2 after taking the current upgraded phone off of line #1. The upgrade does not appear until I take the upgraded phone off of line #1. I would add the current upgraded phone back to line #1 after transferring the upgrade to line #2.

The question is what do I do after I move the upgrade to keep from losing my UDL?

Why do I need to transfer upgrade when both lines are eligible?I apologize for being unclear, I should have stated that more clearly in my post but it was late and I was on deadline for Costco rebate:

Line 1 UDP eligible for upgrade
Line 2 2 gig plan iPhone 5 eligible for upgrade
Line 3-5 basic phones

With this scenario can't I just activate line 2 Sim when it comes, later transfer new sim back to iPhone, and then put my sim in Samsung S6?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I wanna know if it's save to call verizon to add insurance on my Nexus 6. I previously had he galaxy nexus and I transferred my upgrade to my TDP using the best buy method. I do remember seeing the insurance when I purchased the phone. I only have a few days before I reach the 30 day period. Adding the insurance online is not possible as there's no option to add it. Can anyone help me out?

Since the tiered line has its own upgrade, it's perfectly safe to use that upgrade through Costco. It's only transferring upgrades that are allowed through Best Buy and Verizon. Once the phone arrives, make sure to activate it on Line 2 for an hour or so. After that, feel free to move it to the unlimited line.

Are you keeping the new phone or is the relative getting the new phone? Which smartphone do you have and what do you want?
