[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The short answer is to stop going into stores. While our methods work, most reps will not do them in person. This is why everything starts with ordering the phone online. I know you need a phone like yesterday, but if you follow the steps I outlined previously, you'll get what you want.
I definitely agree and like you said if I didn't need the phone for days ago I would have gone that route! Lol

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here is my situation:
Line 1: Note 3 TDP upgrade available
Line 2: iPhone 6 TDP no upgrade available
Line 3: iPhone 5S UDP no upgrade available
Line 4: Note 3 UDP no upgrade available

I want to upgrade line 4 to a Nexus 6

Can I just go into Verizon and upgrade line 1 to the Nexus 6, use it for a day or 2, and then just transfer the phone to line 4? Do I need to worry about SIM cards in this situation? Do I still need to buy a sim cutter for line 4 Note 3 and put that SIM in the Nexus 6 when I transfer phone lines or is this not necessary because I'm not activating a new phone to the line? Also, after the switch is made, can we re-activate line 1 Note 3 with its original SIM or do I need to move the nanoSIM from Nexus 6 into a microSIM adapter and use that SIM in line 1 Note 3.

In the past I've used line 1 upgrade and just put line 4 SIM into that phone when it arrives and activate it like that but I have never had to deal with different sized SIMs. Can I just order online, buy a SIM cutter, and put line 4 SIM into the new device and just activate it? This would seem much simpler and easier. Thanks for the help.

You are more than welcome to use a tiered line's upgrade in store. Feel free to upgrade Line 1 to a Nexus 6. As for moving it to Line 4, that can be done as soon as you get home if you want. Basically, you are looking at:

1.) Go to Verizon and upgrade the tiered line to a Nexus 6. Keep your Note 3 and its SIM
2.) When you get home, power off the Nexus 6
3.) Log into Verizon and select "active or switch device"
4.) Select Line 1
5.) Select a phone that has been on the account before
6.) Select the Note 3 with its old SIM (i.e. use an existing SIM)
7.) Follow the directions to activate the Note 3

Once you activate the Note 3 on Line 1. Make sure to power it on and that it is working. Once it has been about an hour and the old Note 3 is working again, just repeat the process above with Line 4. Power off Line 4's Note 3 and just do the steps over again.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you - and if i'm using the transfer update method to go from an iPhone 4 (3G, no sim card) to a 5s/s5 (4G, w/ sim cards), would this work? Would anything need to be done to the new phones sim card?

The transfer to a tiered line works regardless of smarthphone that is on the line. That is why it is the preferred way to do it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Been reading through the site and wanting to make sure. I have a Droid Bionic with a new 4G LTE SIM Card (Card updated when I tried to switch carriers). I'm on an Individual plan with UDP. I can use my upgrade to get a new phone at Best Buy mailed to my home. Remove SIM CARD on new phone WITHOUT TURNING IT ON. Place current SIM card in new phone and I should be good to go? Sounds too simple? Also, which current phones have compatible SIM Cards to my Droid Bionic? Can't find that information anywhere. Thanks.

I think the bionic has a standard size sim cause it wouldn't fit my s4 when I upgraded to that. All the new phones pretty much have nano iphone 5&6, galaxy s5&6 ect.

The better question to ask is what new phone do you want? Very few if any phones come with a standard SIM now. Most likely, you will need to cut your SIM to either Micro or nano.

Just search Google "sim card template" then search it on YouTube or buy a sim cutter

Since I never had a sim card in the iphone 4 - when I switch the new phone w/ sim to back to my UDP line, it's not going to just assume that i'm still on the TDP plan like the one I upgraded through?
If it doesn't, i'm gonna give this whole thing a shot

SIM cards can be reprogrammed. When you move the phone to the unlimited line, you'll reprogram it to the unlimited line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Was trying to avoid having to cut it. But if I have to, I shall. I'm looking to upgrade to a Galaxy S5 to only cut from Standard to Micro. Is my process correct? Order phone mailed to me via best buy. Remove new SIM card, place old cut SIM in phone then turn it on. Is it that simple?

Yes, it is that simple. It also wouldn't hurt to order a SIM cutter from Amazon or eBay. They only cost a few dollars and make cutting a cinch.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just to be clear: my iphone 6 is on its way with methods established. What I need to do once I get it is: DO NOT turn on the new phone (iphone 6) and register it online to my tiered plan. Once registered with tiered plan for one hour, turn off the phone and activate old tiered phone (S5) back to the plan. THEN add new iPhone to UDP. And I'm good correct? No card swapping? Is this the safestway? Thanks in advance!!

Assuming you upgraded via the tiered line (either used its own or transferred one to it), your plan is correct.

That's correct. Unfortunately, single line plans have little options for upgrading.

If you can afford it I would definitely go with the s6 my buddy has the s5 and he hates it it's plagued with all sorts of problems done the update... Plus I just got the s6 and it's absolutely amazing! IMO

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Family plan
Line 1: note 2 udp upgrade avaliable
line 2: s4 udp upgrade avaliable
line 3: basic phone, no data, upgrade avaliable

Just to verify..I want to upgrade line 1 to LG g3 from best buy. I can order with line 2, ship to home, take Sim from line 1 and activate phone? Or do I go on Verizon and activate line 2 with new Sim card, wait 1 hour.. then swap Sim card? Use new Sim that came with LG go and put it in s4?

Thanks for your input guys/gals. I just wanna be sure I don't lose my udp.
