[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Go to the Cell Phone Upgrade Checker and type in the phone number for Line 4. It should give you an option to transfer an upgrade.

Also, check out this post (Slickdeals.net - View Single Post - Upgrade and keep your Unlimited Data with Verizon) as there are picture directions too.

The screens on the Slick Deals site differ from the BB site today. There is no opportunity to transfer the upgrade.

Can I just take the upgrade on line 2 or 3, and just insert the sim from line 4?

What phone is on line 4 and what new phone do you want to get?

The phone on line 4 is a GS3. My daughter wants a GS6. I know the sim card is different but I have a sim cutter and a drawer full of nano sims. 😁

I'm anxiously waiting for Motorola's announcement tomorrow too. As for the SIM sizes, if you do not want to cut the micro-SIM, you could go this route:

1.) Upgrade through the Basic Line
2.) When the new phone arrives, log into My Verizon
3.) Chooses "activate or switch device" and Select your unlimited line
4.) Select "Activate a device that has never been on the account before"
5.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers of the new phone and follow the rest of the activation directions

That should activate the new phone on your unlimited line. There are other ways of doing it (borrowing your dad's phone for a little while would help too). Once you decide on a new phone, someone from this thread will guide you on the process.

Okay. Thanks again. Tomorrow will be the deciding factor. If Motorola can deliver (and I really hope they can), then I'll be back with more questions eventually so that I can retain my unlimited.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's my new situation. I transferred upgrade from UDP S5 line to dumb phone in order to upgrade to S6 without having to cut the Sim card and do the switch online thru VZ website. Problem is the website says "your request cannot be completed. We cannot process your request at this time, please try again later". Can I still cut the Sim card from S5 or go into VAR to have them activate it without losing UDP?

As long as your plan is fine for about a month, you can definitely use an upgrade on a different line and just activate directly onto line 4.

Yes. You can either wait to try again, cut your old SIM, or go to a VAR.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you so much!!! It worked really well. I updated as you mentioned, was a little worried when they asked me to switch sim cards, then I wasn't sure which older device to choose. Then I realized it didn't matter, as I put in a new sim number anyway. Worked as you instructed. Thanks! I will try to transfer my other upgrades tomorrow, but I am sure it will work as well.
Question: When I transfer my Line 1's upgrade (UDP) to Line 4 (Iphone 5 TDP--my son wants a new iPhone 6), do I just transfer and then order his phone and activate his phone as instructed by Best Buy.com when it comes in? Not sure if there's a trick so I do not lose unlimited on my Line 1 UPD. He will keep the iPhone 6 and his TDP. Also, is there a waiting period for him as I just used his line to order a phone (after transferring an upgrade from Line 3 to his line 4, then switching the phone to my wife's UDP Line 2). I in essence just upgraded his line, switched the new phone to my wife's Line 2, and will now transfer my upgrade (line 1) to his line so he can get a new iPhone 6 to keep.

Congrats on it working. There is no waiting period and transferring your upgrade will not affect the unlimited data. It will put your unlimited line in a new 2 year contract.

I transferred the upgrade and ordered the device through Verizon. When the device arrives, and being it's on the tiered line, do I still need to swap the sim card?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Great. So, to make sure, I transferred the Line 1 and Line 2 upgrades (both UDP) to Line 3 and Line 4 (TDP), ordered 2 new iPhone 6's, and plan to upgrade these phones on Lines 3 and 4. (even though last week I switched a new phone from Line 4 to Line 2 to keep Line 2's UDP.

What do I do when the 2 new iPhone 6's come in for Line 3 and 4? Do I just turn them on, switch the sim's and follow the phone activation? Or, do I not turn the phones on, destroy the sim's, then use the old sims from Line 3,4. (Both TDP). Both upgrades were transferred from line 1 and 2 UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If I get my phone from moto maker how do I use it on my UDP line? I guess this means I can't upgrade?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys,

Great thread. Could someone point me in the right direction on what I should do? Apologies if the answer is buried somewhere in the 300+ responses. I am sure it is...

I have an S3 + UDP, no contract/month to month. Wife has a Iphone4/4s without UDP and is eligible for an upgrade. I would like to avoid taking her old IPhone as I'm an android type of guy. Is there a reasonable way to do this other than paying full-retail for a new phone? Thank you in advance.

No. Since the upgrade was used on a tiered line you can activate it with the SIM that is installed in the phone.

Just follow the directions that come with the phones. Since you used an upgrade on a tiered line, it is safe to activate it on the tiered line with the SIM card in the new phone. This is true even in your scenario where the upgrade originated on an unlimited line.

If both old SIMs are already nano-sized, you can just use them and bypass the directions. That is what Verizon's system will require you to do anyways.

If you buy full price, you can upgrade through Moto Maker. Otherwise, you need an upgrade on a tiered line to upgrade through Moto Maker since Motorola has been known to automatically change plans.

What is the end goal? Are you trying to upgrade both lines? It's fairly easy to upgrade both lines since your wife has a tiered data plan.

Sorry, can you elaborate? The upgrade is on my UDP line, the same line I want to order through moto maker. I can use my upgrade via moto maker? (Even though the phone is currently not being sold by Verizon, but will be able to activate according to the sales rep)

That's correct. I guess the best way to phrase my q is, what is the most cost effective way for me to upgrade both lines and keep my UDP on my line. Thank you again

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So here is what I did:

I ordered the phone from moto maker (off contract).

I have an upgrade available but I don't even want to use it at all... (on my UDP line).

To activate it, can I just remove the sim card from my phone and put it in the new one?
