[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Oh interesting i didn't consider that. I'm glad i asked then.
So when i go on to best buy or verizon to transfer the upgrade.. should i transfer line 1 upgrade to line 2? or should i transfer line 4 upgrade to line 2?

once the phone arrives i just take the sim card out that it comes with and put line 1s original sim card in?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey all, I need your help. My phone is dying on me... Something to do with not being able to hold a charge, and I need to get a replacement and keep my UDL. Please help me through the best options with my situation below. I'm thinking about getting the new Motorola X Pure Edition coming out, or the Note 5, if it has an external memory card. Otherwise it's the S6 or G4.

Line 1: HTC One M8; UDP; Upgrade eligible
Line 2: Dumbphone; upgrade eligible
Line 3: Dumbphone; No DP; no upgrade
Line 4: Dumbphone; No DP; no upgrade

Anyone more knowledgeable can correct me if I'm wrong as I'm only regurgitating what others have said/what I've read, but you could use the Line 2 upgrade to get a new phone:

1. Order a smartphone using the Line 2 upgrade, select a TDP when asked
2. Smartphone arrives, do not power it on or charge it
3. Remove the SIM card that comes with it
4. If the SIM card in the M8 is a micro and the Moto X is a nano you'll need to either cut your original SIM or get a nano SIM with your Line 1 info
4a. Put the cut micro SIM into the Moto X and it should boot up with your Line 1 info and UDP
5. You could try to go to a VAR (Verizon Authorized Retailer NOT a corporate VZW store) and play dumb saying you need a nano SIM for your Moto X but as others have said this maybe best tried buying from Best Buy and going to a VAR

Since you never activated the Moto X on Line 2 you shouldn't get charged for the TDP. Others have said on the thread that it kind of hangs there on your account but should go away after a while?

Hope this helps so the same people don't have to keep responding with the same thing over and over again. Best of luck!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello everyone, just found this thread online as I am thinking about upgrading my phone. Here is my situation:

On my shared family 700 mins plan:
Line 1: Samsung S5, unlimited plan, upgrade eligible
Line 2: Basic LG phone, no data plan, make and receive phone calls only, upgrade available in 04/2016

I am thinking about transferring my upgrade eligibility from Line 1 to Line 2 on verizonwiress.com first, then pay the upgrade price of $199.99 to order a new LG G4 from Line 2 on verizonwireless.com. Wait for the new phone to arrive. Once new phone is here, do not turn it on and charge it. Take out the SIM card that came with it and destroy it. Then power down my Samsung S5 from Line 1, take out its SIM card and put it in the new LG G4 then turn it on, then I am golden??!!

My questions are:

First, should I power down S5 first and take out the SIM card. Then go onto verizonwireless.com and activate the new IMEI number from the LG G4 on my Line 1. Then put the SIM card from S5 and put it in the new G4 and power it up?

Second, should I order my phone through Best Buy INSTEAD of from verizonwiress.com after transfer my upgrade eligibility on verizonwiress.com? Then do the steps mentioned above?

Please help,
thank you!!!!

Your plan will work fine. Because the S5 and G4 use the same size SIM, you don't need to log into Verizon online. Just put your active SIM in the G4 and turn on the new phone. It will automatically activate.
As for your second question, just order the G4 from whoever is selling it cheaper. Best Buy or Verizon will work fine.

It will depend on the phone you select. If you get the Moto X, you don't need to worry about any method. $399 is considered full price.

If you choose the Note 5, the exact method will be based on the SIM size used in it. My advice would be to select your phone first and once you do just let us know. The directions given earlier are fairly accurate, but it will depend on phone and SIM size.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Once again I can't thank you enough dusoccer. Thanks for being patient and answering my questions. Just so I'm 100% clear:

1. Order the S6 using the L3 upgrade and select a TDP
2. Have the S6 shipped to my home
3. Open up the back of the phone and get the IMEI #
4. Log onto my VZW account
5. Activate a new device (never activated on this account before)
6. Enter in the IMEI of the SGS6
7. Power on the phone with the original nano-SIM card that came with the SGS6 and hope that it is now operating on my Line 1 number

Does this sound correct? Thanks again!!!

Close. For #6, you enter both the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the phone.

You can't transfer the basic phone's upgrade to line 2. Verizon doesn't allow it.

Also, the S5 and S6 use different size SIMs. You would need to cut your old SIM to nano for it to work.

The other way is using the IMEI and SIM numbers to activate the phone on line 1.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey,
So just filtered through the pages but couldn't find a similar scenario to mine.
Its definitely been over 2 years since I last upgraded so not really familiar with the current loopholes and rules
Would be greatly appreciated if someone could give some advice

Nationwide Talk & Text Share 1400 Plan
Line 1. Galaxy 3- Unlimited Data (Upgrade Available)
Line 2. Galaxy 3- Unlimited Data (Upgrade Available)
Line 3. HTC One M7 - Unlimited Data (Upgrade Available)
Line 4. Basic Phone - No Data (No Upgrade)

Ideally I am trying to upgrade all 3 smartphone lines to either GS6 or possibly Iphone 6. But would there be a way to upgrade all 3 smartphone lines by individually moving the upgrades to the basic line (line 4) one by one (on verizon wireless) and activating through the old sim cards? Would the Galaxy 3 and HTC One sims be able to be cut to nano sim size?
Another question was do people prefer to use Bestbuy or Verizon when using the upgrade transfer method?

First of all, thank you so much for your help. A couple of more questions if you don't mind. When I transfer my upgrade eligibility online from Line 1 to Line 2, what happens to Line 1? Automatic 2 year contract extension?

I am thinking that after transferring my upgrade eligibility to Line 2, I will just order the G4 from Best Buy instead of Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So, I went to go ahead and try this after getting my wife an upgrade the ol' fashioned way. I hit a couple of messages on the vzw site that concerned me. This was after I successfully upgraded her phone, and then transferred my upgrade to her line. I basically hit the screens one after another in the checkout process. Note, I was able to transfer the upgrade back to my UDP line...Any advice? Are these normal?

Help is very much appreciated, hopefully I'm not out of luck!

This is just saying you have to have data on the line for 2 years. Check the box and hit continue.

The line that the upgrade originated from will be extended for 2 years. So, line 1 will get a new contract when you transfer and upgrade.

Still a bit confused

Greetings again!

I am trying to figure out how to keep the UDP on our account.

We have a a Verizon plan called the Nationwide Talk Share 700

Line 1: iPhone 5 / UDP / upgrade available
Line 2: LG Cosmos Touch/ No Data plan (Basic phone) / upgrade available

Both lines have been out of contract for many months and I want to upgrade my Line 1 iPhone 5 UDP to an LG G4.

Is the best way to go to simply purchase the LG G4 from Best Buy and have it shipped to the house....then remove the iPhone 5 card and place it in the LG G4 when it arrives?

Thanks very much....I have been through the slickdeals site and this one and simply fried my brain..

I believe this is the way to go about doing this in MY situation......

Best Buy Method

You can do the BB Method if you have a line situation like this (you can have additional lines, too):

L1: UDP 4G LTE phone Yes

1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on your UDP line before you order;
2) Through a 3rd party retailer online,* order a new smartphone using your UDP line's upgrade and have it shipped to home not shipped to store;
3) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with without turning it on or plugging it in; and
4) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on your UDP line into the new smartphone and turn it on.

Correct?

Thanks,

Mike

Oh okay ill have to transfer from line 1 to the TDP line if i go down the transfer path. Thank you for clearing that up.

I already have a sim cutter from going through this process a few phones back. Would the easier option be to transfer from line 1 to TDP line and cut the sim with the cutter.. or would it be easier to use the IMEI and SIM numbers to activate the phone on line 1? I guess its whatever i prefer but i haven't tried this other method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I hope I am doing this right by asking my question within this thread. If i should open a new one please let me know.

Current 700 minute plan with 2 lines
1. Unlimited Data with an LG G3 - available for an upgrade
2. Dumb phone - Upgrade not available until 7/2016 as i used this for the above upgrade

We need to upgrade line 2 to now include data. How do i do this keeping unlimited data?

What I want to do as well is the LG G3 moves to line 2 and the new device moves to line 1.

What options are there other then paying full retail for a device?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've spent the last 2 hours on line getting more confused. Can someone please help me, please?

-Motorola Droid - Unlimited Data (I want to upgrade to a new phone)
-Galaxy 4 - 2 Gig with free upgrade

I just received a G3 from Best Buy online at home that I received from my Galaxy 4 with free upgrade. I want to upgrade my G3 to my Motorola without losing the unlimited. I did not turn on the G3 yet but I opened the back and the SIM card is there but will not come out. I read that I just need to swap the SIM from the Droid to the new G3 and I will not lose the unlimited on the Droid. Is this correct or do I have to activate my G3 to the Galaxy first and swap out the SIM from the Droid to the G3? What is the proper process to not lose the Droid Unlimited? And how do I get my SIM card out of the G3?

update...I got the SIM card out.
