[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just an update on a return. I transferred an upgrade from L2 UDP to L1 TDP last week Tuesday (8/11/15) using the 4ever method through the Verizon iconic portal. After it was confirmed that the loophole for upgrades, subsidized pricing and 2 year contracts was still open for grandfathered customers, I refused delivery on a phone that was scheduled to be delivered last Thursday (8/13/15). I tracked the device back to Verizon and they received it yesterday. The good news is that my upgrade was automatically restored to L2 UDP without having to call Verizon and the contract reverted to month to month. I still need to confirm that all of the charges (activation, restocking, subsidized price on device) are reversed - hopefully without calling Verizon.
Here is another update. I am still waiting for the charges to be reversed on my credit card. I spoke with a CSR and they said that it can take up to three weeks. The fastest he had ever seen was 7 business days. He mentioned that the length of time was dependent on the bank backing the credit card. What he said was consistent with some printed information I had seen elsewhere. I will report back once the charges are reversed.

Re: How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon & Get a New Phone on Dumb phone line

Has anyone recently been able to roll back a data plan put on a dumb phone line so as to purchase a new smart phone? The new phone has not yet been activated and will never be activated on this line. The new phone was bought at BB but is still in the box and will be activated with a different Sim on a UDP line. The dumb phone is still in service but Verizon notified us that the data plan was added.
Will they notice that there is no smart phone on that line and get rid of the data plan? If asked, will they agree to end the data plan? Can a non-Verizon mobile store make this change? The dumb phone line had an upgrade available for the 2 yr renewal so the new phone could be purchased at a discounted price.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I tried to order the Note 5 from the best buy's website today using my upgrade and keeping my unlimited data plan. This has worked in the past but today it said that if you are an unlimited data customer that you automatically will be changed to the 2GB data plan? Is this something new or do I order it anyway, use my original sim and throw out the new one in the box. Thanks in advance for the help.

That is a routine warning. You are OK to proceed as long as you do not use the SIM card that comes Note 5 and follow the steps of the BB method correctly.

1) Do not power-on/ charge the Note 5

2) insert your older SIM (with UDP) into the Note 5

3) Power on and allow boot-up to complete

4) Place a call on the Note 5 to anyone besides VZW. If the call goes through you are done. If the call fails to complete ask for help here.

5) Treat the new SIM which came with the Note 5 as toxic waste and never allow it to be used. After the 14-day return period expired I wrapped mine in gaffers tape sticky side down on the metal contacts and tossed into the trash

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I was just worried because last time I used the upgrade it didn't specifically call out the verizon UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What are the downsides to having a pending activation on your account?

I'm getting my new phone today and using my old sim card. I have another line that is upgrade eligible, will I be able to upgrade that phone with a pending activation for a different line?

You can upgrade the other line as a pending activation will not affect it. A pending activation only effects plan/line changes like number of minutes, adding mobile hotspot, etc...

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So i realize this topic has beaten to death so I'd like to apologize first for posting more questions but I am terrified of losing my UDP. So i just want to confirm i did this right. I have numerous lines on my verizon account, my line has the UDP and is eligible for an upgrade so i went through BB clicked the discounted price and got the warning that i will have to switch to a 2gb plan. so i clicked the upgrade option, paid, read through all the crazy long agreements and what not, checked the boxes and processed my order and made sure to have it shipped to my house. Now all i have to do is trim my sim card from my GS5 and insert it into my note 5 before i start it and i should keep my UDP right?
thanks in advance.

I'm on the same boat. I plan to trash the sim card that comes in the new phone, and then put my old sim in the new phone, power on the new phone. it is said that if we use best buy method, that would no pending activation, is that true?

The Best Buy method will usually create a pending activation that lasts a few weeks (2-6) and then disappear

Can I suspend the service when pending activation exists? For some reason,I don't need this line now...

I don't know specifically about suspending the acct while a pending activation is in place.

I defer to dusoccer10 on these matters. To quote his recent comment on pending activations..."A pending activation only effects plan/line changes like number of minutes, adding mobile hotspot, etc..."

Hope that helps, or catches the eye od DUSOCCER10

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for all of the great info here guys. I've currently got a s4 with UDP, screen broke and wanted to upgrade anyway (insured but don't wanna pay the $150 deductible since i'm upgrading anyway) also have a 2nd line w/ dumb phone. I went into VZ wireless store to pull the ol' switcheroo (upgrade 2nd line to s6 edge, transfer back to primary UDP to keep UDP put dumb phone back to 2nd line) however they're saying doing this will saddle the 2nd line with a $30 data plan that cannot be removed even if it's a dumb phone.

I'm willing to buy the s6 edge outright but know i'd either have to cut the micro SIM to nano size or is it possible if I buy it and take it to a VAR that they'd be able to transfer the UDP from the micro to nano? Since the screen is broken I can't wait to have it shipped from BB or from preorder.verizonwireless.com so can I just buy the s6 edge from a VZ store or VAR? After doing so I don't find it necessary to keep the 2nd line active and would be able to just cancel that line and save $10 a month, correct? (Both lines are M2M, no contract)

Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you buy outright you don't have to worry. You can use the SIM card that comes with it.

Yes you can cancel the dummy line if you are not using it for upgrades and it is out of contact. It really doesn't make sense to have the dummy line of you only have one other line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

OK but like I said the s4 has micro SIM amd s6 has nano, from what I'm reading I'd either have to cut it to fit or a VAR has the ability to somehow transfer the UDP profile from my existing micro with the UDP to the new s6 nano SIM, will official VZ stores not do this service?

If I did cut the SIM myself is it easy as just plug & play or is there some sort of activation I'd have to have done at a VZ store OR VAR?
