[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello All, I have a Verizon unlimited data plan and a Samsung Galaxy S4 that is basically dead. There is also a phone on my shared plan that is a basic phone which is eligible for an upgrade.

I read through a ton of detail on this website, and am moving ahead with getting a new phone and trying to maintain my unlimited data, but wanted to confirm a few things before I actually received the new phone to make sure I don't screw it up!

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 via Amazon by using the basic phone upgrade that was available and it will be showing up soon. My understanding is:
  • I should NOT power on the SGS6 when I get it.
  • I should remove the nanoSim from the SGS6
  • I should take the sim card from my SGS4 (which is a micro, so I need to go to VZW and get a nano and adapter)
  • Put the sim from my SGS4 into the SGS6, and turn it on to activate on my line.

Is that right? Am I missing something? What do I do with the basic phone?

Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Looking to upgrade my device with UDP and appreciate feedback on how to do so.

Line 1: s4 with UDP, upgrade eligible.
Line 2: dummy phone, upgrade eligible.

Two years ago i upgraded line 2 to get the s4 for line 1. Once transferred, the data fee gets dropped. But my understanding is that verizon will now force me to pay the data fee on line 2 even if i put the dummy phone back. Any experiences or instructions any how to do this?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you use the best buy method..... People are reporting that the dummy line is not activating the data. So theoretical no data

Just an update on a return. I transferred an upgrade from L2 UDP to L1 TDP last week Tuesday (8/11/15) using the 4ever method through the Verizon iconic portal. After it was confirmed that the loophole for upgrades, subsidized pricing and 2 year contracts was still open for grandfathered customers, I refused delivery on a phone that was scheduled to be delivered last Thursday (8/13/15). I tracked the device back to Verizon and they received it yesterday. The good news is that my upgrade was automatically restored to L2 UDP without having to call Verizon and the contract reverted to month to month. I still need to confirm that all of the charges (activation, restocking, subsidized price on device) are reversed - hopefully without calling Verizon.

Cheezmaker5: Sorry for the late reply, but after returning my iPhone 6 everything was reversed without contacting Vzw. Upgrade transferred back to UDP line and they did not even charge a restocking fee. Not sure if that was b/c I hadn't opened the box or what. Have to say, I've never been disappointed with their customer service. But then again I pay for it every month.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi! Here's my situation:

Wife: Note 3 UDP
Me: iPhone 6 UDP

I recently got Note 5 using my upgrade. I want to give it to my wife but I cannot put her sim card to the Note 5 since they are different sizes (micro vs nano.) I still have the sim card that came with the Note 5, but I haven't touched it since I or she will lose the UDP if we use it.

I was ready to cut the old sim card into nano, but i noticed the gold plated chip are different sizes.

Is it possible to request a replacement sim card (nano instead of micro) for my wife, without losing UDP and when we receive the replacement, I just use it for the Note 5?

I thought of switching devices so her number can be transferred to a nano sim card by having my iPhone, but the verizon website won't let me since I have a pending activation. Does the pending activation stay there until I use the Note 5?

Thanks for any helpful info.

Yes you can go to any store or order one online, just tell them you are moving the phone around. If you go to a VAR i will probably cost you about $10 for the SIM card. A Corporate store or online will be free. I recommend online as you will not get harassed to move to a new plan.

Absolutely DON'T use the card that came with it... break it in half and toss it.

The pending activation will drop off eventually.

One last update. All of my CC charges were reversed (no restocking fee either) and my upgrade is restored. I can't find any documentation for the return on my online Verizon account, but I am guessing that if I called they would verify that the charges have been reversed. Looks like I am all set to try the 4ever method on a new phone in the next couple weeks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys, I was wondering how I could upgrade my current galaxy s4 UDP that I bought through amazon or dell, i forgot (upgrade eligibility coming on the 10th of this month), to a apple iphone, the upcoming one that apple will reveal on the 9th. I am the account holder and currently was in a 2 year family plan with an iphone 4, upgraded to the samsung s4 with UPD. I really want to keep my UDP and am the only one in my plan to hold it since I was grandfathered in. Thank you so much, im sorry if it has been posted.

Can someone help me out with this still? Planning on getting the newest iphone coming out later in september.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Need opinion on how to upgrade my lines.

Line 1: UDP - up for upgrade on 9/22/2015
Line 2: TDP - up for upgrade on 9/22/2015

Here's how I thinking about doing it.

1. Upgrade Line 2 as you would normally upgrade.

2. After a month or so - transfer Line 1 upgrade to Line 2. Then order through best buy and upgrade line 2 again. When I get phone at home, throw out the SIM from that phone and put in my Line 1 SIM and power on.

Would this work?

That would work. You don't have to worry about throwing out the sim when transferring the upgrade. You also don't have to wait very long before transferring the upgrade.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello everyone! Quick question here:

I'm going to be upgrading to whatever iPhone comes out next month. I still have Unlimited, while another line on my acc has a TDP.

Does the Verizon online method still work? Transfer the upgrade, activate the phone on the tiered line and then swap the sims.

Thanks so much!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Looks like I am going to make the switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. This means I need to say goodbye to my Unlimited Data.

Is there anything I can do to salvage it? Just feels weird.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm not sure of this has been asked before or not (search did not help) but can I do this ?
I currently have only one line with unlimited data. I want to add a line for my gf. Can I add a line for her and give her my old Note 3 and buy a Moto X Pure and move my unlimited to the new phone ? I won't be buying a subsidized phone just adding a line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

^ To each their own. Like I said, coverage in my area is great, and T-Mobile has been picking things up.
