[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The latter. Thanks to the FCC, I was able to just pop my sim in there and use the Jetpack as an emergency data source. (I did this because of Hurricane Sandy...had to get to get an additional line via Assumption of Liability...)

If you have any ideas, believe me I am all ears.

I've got a couple of ideas:

1.) Log into Verizon online and go to activate/switch devices. Try switching the devices between a different line and the Jet Pack line. Does the system allow this? If it does, do the Best Buy Method ASAP, then switch back.

2.) Do you have any old/unused smartphones available that can be activated? If so, you could purchase a SIM cutter and/or an adapter to modify the size. Activate the old phone, do the Best Buy Method, and then put the modified SIM back in the Jet Pack.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If I had phone insurance through vzw, and then I use the best buy method and put my old sim in my new phone, do I have to do anything else to make sure the insurance still covers my new phone?

No. The insurance is with the line and not the phone. It will carry over to whatever phone is on the line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok I just purchased 2 Moto X Pure Editions ($399 each) right before this announcement to change the price on the Unlimited Data Plans. We have 2 lines on the old UDPs. Both of those plans are out of contract and have been for a long time (ever since they killed Unlimited plans). I just keep buying nice used phones and/or recently new Moto X PE...

Is there anything I can do to keep my 2 Unlimited Data Plans at the current cost?

Yes. Do two Best Buy Methods and sell the phones.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

That's exactly what that means...BUT you must make sure that the SIM that come from your upgraded phone are removed from that phone prior to turning that phone on. Otherwise, you will have inadvertantly activated your new plan and lose your UDP on that line. I have followed dusoccer10's instructions and I have a new contract on two of my UDP lines without losing UDP as well as stuck with $30 a line for two years. After that, Verizon will jack me to $50...

Here's hoping the other carriers will have stepped their game up so that maybe Verizon will retain me...but we'll see...lmao.

Same here. I am hoping in another 2 years, with how well TMO is doing, that the other carriers will really step up. Otherwise there is always prepaid, and in my short time with them, cricket worked well. But at least I am saving $20 a month for those 2 years.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

About to pull the trigger on upgrading via Best Buy - does it matter if I have it shipped vs picking it up?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I just successfully defended my unlimited data from the increase. I have a family plan, 700 minutes, with unlimited data on my line 1, 2gb data on line 2, and a dumb phone on line 3. Lines 1 and 3 were up for upgrades and on month to month.

I tried to use the upgrade on line 1 for line 1, and failed. However, I transferred the upgrade from line 1 to line 2, and then upgraded line 2. My mom was using an old Razr M, so I got her the Droid Mini. Nice little spec upgrade, gives her Qi charge, and it was free with the 2 year contract (plus a $40 upgrade fee). Now the plan remains the same, but the line with the unlimited data has a contract end date in 2017.

Ok, I will try that. I still have time...lol.

Quick question...I am getting activity on my iPhones and they will probably move before the Turkey holiday (even though there is some sweet competition...but there is plenty of iFans so no concern.) Anyway, my question: do I need to put my SIM on the phone to activate the phone? Or can I just do what I thought I could do and just take out the SIM and turn it on and just turn it off without it being activated from my lines? I just want to make sure the new buyer(s) don't have any problems.

Looking forward to some sweet XMAS money. I only ask because a new seller went through the trouble of activating his iPhone. I would rather not do that, unless I have to. Please advise.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So both of my lines have UDP.

Line 1 is in contact until 11-28-2016 (I used the Best Buy method last Black Friday to get a GS5 for $1)
Line 2 is available for upgrade

I would like to keep my UDP price down, without the upcoming price increase. I have been reading that the Best Buy method still works. But when I am trying to buy my phone the very first message that comes up says "There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.
Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."
I would upload a screen shot, but I haven't posted enough on here.

So... Do I dare try and fail, and then have to fight to get my unlimited data back?

On another note I want to get the Turbo 2, but it says it isn't available for shipping. And from what I know about the Best Buy method is you have to have it shipped. So I figured I would go with the V10 if the Best Buy method still works.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Much like Jace Bror both of my lines are UDP.

I'm on the Friends and Family 10 S/P 1200 minutes plan. (This may be an old Alltel plan, I don't know how to check)

UDP Line 1 is 4G/LTE (iphone 6) under contract until 11/2016. (Not upgrade eligible)
UDP Line 2 is 4G/LTE (iphone 5) month to month and upgrade eligible.

Can I do the Flying Arrow method?

I really don't understand what is happening on November 15th. I currently pay $165/month for the two lines with UDP, will my price go up if I do nothing?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys, new to the forum.

I have transferred an upgrade before and upgraded and kept my UDP however I did this through Verizon online last August and not the BBM. I am now wanting to do this for my mom since she is out of contract and want to do the BBM since people have confirmed it works and I'm not too sure if it still works on Verizon. I am confused on the transferring process, Verizon's website looks a little different now which makes me uneasy. Do I transfer the upgrade on Verizon or can I log in through BB and transfer it through their website.

If you are wanting to keep your UDP and you are buying the new device at a subsidized price definitely have it shipped to your home.

It works the same as when you did it last time. That screen you're referring to should have been something similar to what you saw last time. No worries, have it shipped, when you receive the phone do not turn it on, swap out your sim with the one it's shipped with, destroy it, power on the phone and you should be good to go!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Best buy had the 32gb galaxy s 6 edge plus for 149.99.. That's a 200 dollars discount.... I just upgraded to it. The 15 is almost here and avoiding the 20 dollars increase should be priority number 1 for everyone.

This I know for sure. If you don't do anything, the price will go up for the Line 2 if it isn't under a 2 year contract. Line 1 will not change until after Nov 2016.

I am not familiar with the Flying Arrow method, what is that?

As long as you remove the SIM that ships with the iPhone, you do not need to activate it.

With the old Alltel plans, it's tough to say whether you will see an increase. The easiest way to tell is by looking at your bill. Is the data portion being billed separately from voice and text? If so, then you'll see an increase.

With that said, the Flying Arrow Method isn't really applicable unless you are trying to get Line 1 a new phone. That method consists of ordering the phone a different line wants and upgrading directly on the new line. In other words, you would use Line 2's upgrade and activate the new phone directly onto Line 1.

My advice would be to just do the Best Buy Method on Line 2. That's the easiest way.

What is your line situation? Do you have two unlimited lines with one under contract and the other not? Whatever you do, do not do the Best Buy method through Verizon.

It's an older method that involves cross-upgrades using two unlimited lines. Search this thread for "Flying Arrow" as that is the name of the creator.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does this work if you do store pick up or only if you have it shipped to you?

It works for store pick up only if your Best Buy allows you to leave with the device unactivated. The policy seems to vary by store but generally they will let you. Just claim it's a gift.
