[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so as far as Best Buy is concerned:

1:Go online (BB)

2:Transfer UDP Upgrade to TDP phone

3:Pick minimum plan (now for TDP)

4:Order phone of choise

5:Ship to home

6: Receive, DO NOT POWER ON, REMOVE SIM and DISCARD

7:Put my UDP SIM in new phone WOHHH 2yrs and not $20 increase?

Thank you for the help I appreciate it. Wish I knew more and could assist you on your issue!
If anything I have typed is incorrect please let me know.

Thanks again

OK guys this is exactly what I did but I am reading now that I should not have transfered the upgrade? I will be getting the phone tonight what do I do at this point? Throw out sim card or active with new sim? My contract did updated and still says unlimited?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

"Please come back and confirm you don't lose udp in your next bill."

I don't think you have read through my posts about my upgrade. I tried the BB method and I could not get it to work for me. I really only wanted to go this route for the $1 GS6 at BB, but since I had no luck, keeping the UDP on my moms line for another 2 years was more important. I can confirm that 15 months ago I did the same procedure on my own UDP line, there is 15 bills. I was just letting others know that it still works through Verizon if anyone had issues. I had not looked into this subject since I did my upgrade on my line and the info I found was a little dated.

Re: Has anyone ever had a problem with the BB/UDP trick?

Right, well, no, in this case, since my mom refuses to upgrade to a smart phone-she doesnt wanna pay the 30 a month for the data plan, I'm just wondering if I can just order a phone on her line through best buy, and again, when it comes in, remove the SIM card and just sell it. But, I thought Verizon would slap on a TDP on that line if you do that, even if you hadn't actually activated the phone to the line yet?

Re: Has anyone ever had a problem with the BB/UDP trick?

Not if you go through Best Buy. You'll will not get the TDP added to the account.

Re: Has anyone ever had a problem with the BB/UDP trick?

Ok, good to know, because at least then I can benefit from something she's apparently never going to use. Hopefully those 1 dollar deals are still going on.

Nah, it's safe to do that. Just do not activate the SIM that ships with the phone and you'll be good to go.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I thought BB method was a 3rd party. I only had one line, with UDP, with upgrade. The BB worked and my contract got updated. So should I send it back?

You did it right and are fine. The Best Buy method also works through Apple.com and that's why I said some 3rd party retailers.

You are fine in going this route.

Do I just activate it with the new sim that came with the phone?(because I did the transfer)? Or do I throw that one out? I still have not turned the phone on.

What Ry said. I didn't realize you transferred the upgrade. That definitely works at Verizon or Best Buy. However, that is not the "Best Buy Method".

Ow I am confused again. Op transfered an upgrade to a tdp in vzw. That is the first step of the bb method. Now op purchased a subsidized phone from vzw on the tdp line. Next he took that vzw phone and exchanged sims with his old udp phone. You're saying that works? Again if that works and you keep udp then why not do the entire thing in vzw website. Why would anybody bother with bb method?

So you transferred the upgrade but never ordered a new phone and that let you extend contract and keep udp? I'm not questioning anything you say but I don't think I am following you correctly. As for your previous posts I probably read them but I never remember user names so after reading a 100 posts I forget who is who. I was under the impression that once you transferred the upgrade to tdp you had to buy a subsidized phone from a third party like bb or apple to keep udp and get new phone. Are you saying I can buy a subsidized phone from vzw online after upgrade transfer then discard sim, switch sim with current tdp phone...use for an hour....then take out sim and put in sim from udp line and you have a new subsidized phone kept udp and never dealt with anybody but vzw?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As I understand it and where I SCREWED up is the Best Buy method you do not transfer upgrade and you just throw out the sim that arrives with the phone. Where I am stuck now is (I DID TRANSFER) IS IT SAFE TO ACTIVATE WITH SUPPLIED SIM AND SWITCH LINES AFTER AN HOUR?? My verizon states pending upgrade for udp line? but the transfer was to the tdp line?

So what I did was not the best buy method, I technically started the 4ever method but through best buy and not verizon online, I believe?

The confusion seems to be on exactly what the best buy method is, at least in my mind.

I cannot post links because I have less than 10 posts on Android Central. But everyone should check out the Slickdeals thread on this subject.

Several people have lost their UDP's today, likely the result of the change to Verizon's systems last night. Suggestion is to NOT use the SIM from your UDP in the subsidized device until further information is obtained.

So are you saying that POSSIBLY not even the best buy method is working? What about people like me who transferred upgrades via best buy? Am I able to activate with provided sim and swap numbers after an hour?

The BB Method seems to be the culprit. Using the 4ever method wouldn't necessitate the destruction of the SIM that ships with the phone. The thought is that the device IMEI may now be linked to the UDP in some way under the system upgrade that took place last night (as I understand it anyway, but I may be misinterpreting a bit). No word yet on whether throwing a non-UDP Verizon SIM in the phone has the same affect.
