[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a $50 udp line with an upgrade available. Can I take advantage of the Black Friday promotion and keep the upgrade for a later purchase? I'd like to transfer the upgrade to another line in a few months. Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So in order to transfer an upgrade from a UDP line to a TDP line, it sounds like the TDP line needs to be on a 2-year contract. It can't be on DPP, and it can't be out of contract (since it would presumably have its own upgrade available if it were out of contract).

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am trying to figure out why some posts are answered quickly and other posts are ignored. This is what I posted with no reply:

Here is my scenario. 2 phones:

Line 1: UDP $29.99
Line 2: UDP $29.99

They are reaching end of contract in a week. What do I do to extend contract? I don't need a new phone now but could still buy a phone and sell.

If I understand correctly, can I buy on BB and then activate Line 1 phone on Line 2 and vice versa? Is this possible?

Or should I buy 2 phones from Best Buy and sell each of them after destroying the SIM. And when I am ready to upgrade, buy a phone at full price?

What should I do? And if I have to buy a phone to sell which one to buy to ensure that I can sell it?

Also when you buy it from BB do I have to buy it under (1) Device payment plan or with (2) 2 year contract?

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I personally did not answer this question because I have never done what you are asking about.

But I will answer from what I have read on here.

Yes you can buy phones and sell them to stay on contact.

Yes you can upgrade each line on a 2 year contract and activate line 1 on line 2 and line 2 on line 1. But never put line 1 phone on line 1 or line 2 phone on line 2. Also it should not matter if you buy online from Verizon or BB.

Now I think you already knew all of that yourself but I answered anyway.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks tx_tuff for taking the time to respond. I really don't know whether what I know is correct. Too many different ideas going around and just looking for affirmation.

But one final question, do you know what plan to buy the phone with in any of these scenarios? Do you have to buy it on the DPP? Or are there any other options?

I said but it with the 2 year contract referring to the 2 year subsidized. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Cool. Thank you once again. I am trying now to buy it with a 2 year contract. The first time I got this message, "There was problem with the information you submitted. Please check it and try again.."

Also, my phone contract ended on Nov 23 but my billing cycle ends on the 21st of the month. So I still have another billing cycle at $29.99. In your estimation, will I be able to retain the $29.99 and UDP as long as I am within the billing cycle? Or am I now screwed since the contract ended on Nov 23?

I'm not 100% sure.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi,
Line 1 UDP $30/month data upgrade available and transferable
Line 2 Basic phone without data

I have been following Slickdeals forums but I have not been getting any help in my situation.

What I gather, they suggest using their "Switzma" method:
Switzma Method:

"You can do Switzma Method if you have a line situation like this (you can have additional lines, too):

L1: UDP 4G LTE phone Yes
L2: UDP/basic 3G, 4G LTE phone or basic phone No

Switzma Method is particularly useful if you get the "problem with your order" email from Best Buy when you attempt the BB Method on L1.

Switzma method will not result in the basic line being stuck with a 2 year data plan commitment on it because you keep existing plan on the basic line, remove the SIM card that ships with the phone and you never activate a smartphone on the basic line.

1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on your UDP Line 1 before you order;
2) Log onto Best Buy and transfer your UDP Line 1's upgrade to another UDP/basic Line 2;
3) Order the new smartphone you want for Line 1 on Line 2;
4) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with without turning it on or plugging it in; and
5) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on your UDP Line 1 into the new smartphone and turn it on."

WHen I do this, I get a pop up box .
I will attach a screenshot of the pop up box that is confusing to me.
Thank you for any help!

If you transfer the upgrade from line 1 you will never be able to put the phone you get on line 1 or you will lose your UDP. But you can sell the phone and be fine. You will not be charged data on line 2.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks tx_tuff , that's what I thought, but where is says
"The MORE Everything Plan"
Made me think I was going to have to pay for data on line 2,
Agree?
Here is another question, what would happen if I didn't transfer upgrade to line 2 and just bought in on line 1's upgrade and sold it after Removing the sim card, of course?
Thanks again!

If you never activate the phone you should be good. But once again that's something I have never done.

My account:

Line 1 UDP has no upgrade
Line 2 TDP is eligible for upgrade at 2-year contract pricing

If I upgrade Line 2(TDP) by purchasing a new smartphone
on 2-year contract pricing from Best Buy, can I use that
new phone on Line 1 without endangering Line 1's UDP?

Thanks! :)

Yup

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Have an unlimited account with the $20 adder. Just picked up the Moto Z on DPP from Best Buy. I should be OK, right? Do I move my activated SIM or activate the new one?

Just activate the phone with what it came with. You are good.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just ordered an iPhone 7 from Best Buy and am going to sell it. It came with a Verizon sim card in the box and the iPhone is in a factory sealed box.

Really stupid question, but just to confirm, there shouldn't be any additional sim card preinstalled in the phone that I would need to remove first right? I'd like to sell it in the factory sealed box if possible but wanted to double check.

I got in on that $1 Verizon iPhone 7 deal at Best Buy on CyberMonday as well. I literally go in at the very last minute(11:42pm CST). A hour later, the deal ended, since it turned Tuesday.

The Veriozn iPhone 7 box was sealed, with a Verizon SIM card taped to the outside of the box.

]Caution: find another Verizon SIM card(active or inactive) that's not associated with your Verizon account, then activate that iPhone. Since Verizon does not do SIM lock, your new iPhone 7 will be unlocked and can be used with any other carrier you choose from now on.

Absolutely do NOT activate it with AT&T or T-Mobile SIM cards because the iPhones sold by Best Buy will be locked to the first carrier SIM that it sees.

This is because *all* iPhones sold by Best Buy(store or website) are the same(AT&T, Verizon, or whatever). They are under the flex reseller policy and gets locked to the first carrier.(again, with the exception of Verizon SIM)
