[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hopefully by then unlimited data will just be the industry standard.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

We played this out a long time, I think I got 6 new phones subsidized on two UDP lines since they tried to stop us the first time. Maybe just 5, it's hard to keep count.

I will ride it out as long as I can. One line is out of contact in June of this year, the other not until Nov of 2018 (upgraded this line just in time). But point is when you are out of contract they can do what they want, so I know people get mad and say how is unlimited not unlimited? I guess the answer is when you don't have a contract!

And to think this thread could be closed. : ( I was around since page 50 maybe. I got I think 2 phones outta the deal. Definitely could have been more as tx_tuff mentioned.

RIP Vzw Unlimited :(. They're slowly working towards their goal of getting everyone off of it.

They offer a 100GB tiered plan, so I doubt it'll go any further down than 200GB...maybe 150GB in the future...

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It was 500 last August now 200... Who knows what next time will be

I wish I can switch to T-Mobile or AT&T.

Unfortunately, Verizon signal near both my home and office is usually 4 or 5 bars. Usually I gest at least 30 to 45mbps down and 10 to 15mbps up.

T-Mobile is 1-bar or no bars most of the time. Around 10mbps down and 2mbps up, but there are MANY dead spots with no signal.

AT&T 4G LTE is a solid 2-bar, but usually don't go any faster than 4mbps downl and 1mbps up.

Guess I'm stuck with Verizon... :(

How recently did you test T-Mobile and AT&T?

How recently did you test T-Mobile and AT&T?

about a week ago? I tested with AT&T postpaid SIM and T-Mobile prepaid SIM, using unlocked iPhone 7 and Pixel XL that I borrowed from co-workers. Tried at both my home and office.

Are you sure 2 year contracts are dead? I've seen some say they still see such via Verizon's website when they log in etc

Plus if you are less than a year left on your contract especially if it's a month to go you can convert to the loyalty plan to extend it for a year.

Wouldn't converting a loyalty plan to extend the contract result in unlimited data gone and thus defeat the purpose?

Verizon's "loyalty" plan was never about rewarding "loyalty" :(

You are only converting the voice plan to a loyalty plan. On the older plans, unlimited data is a feature just like texting, insurance, premium voicemail, etc. They can be added and removed at will, though smartphones require a data plan. And only current features can be added so you can't add unlimited data.

Thought you all may find this interesting. My wife and I have two $29.99 UDPs that are still in contact until March 2018. Did an iPhone upgrade program at the Apple store today. Walked through everything, made sure the plan didn't change.....but the price of my data plan, as reflected through Apple's portal via Verizon, was $49.99. Made my heart flutter. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Just FYI if anyone else is doing this.

You were allowed to do an upgrade even though your upgrade date was on or before August 2018?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Full price over 24 month payment plan. Apple offers the upgrade program, 24 payments, you can upgrade after 12 payments. Similar to what carriers do but our plan did not change. I did this 6 months ago with my iPhone. Only repercussion was a $30 upgrade fee through Verizon. I called Verizon and had this waived. The upgrade fee is now $40. The Apple employee was very nice, let me look at all her screens to make sure nothing was changing. The weird difference was seeing the $49.99 data plan screen.

Yes. This is a full price payment plan through Apple. Our contracts end March 2018. This iPhone upgrade program is "separate" from Verizon. I walked through all the Verizon screens at the Apple employee's terminal. She was very transparent about the whole process. Apple portal screens similar to what we've done with Best Buy. It prompts to keep or change your existing Verizon plan. Kept my 700 minute Nationwide plan and my unlimited data. Keep in mind, I pay $29.99 for data but the Apple portal screen said, "Keep existing data package? -- Unlimited - $49.99". I agreed to this so hopefully it doesn't screw anything up.

Oh so it went up to $49.99

Per that screen, it looks very conflicting. Keep my $49.99 data package? That's wrong. I'm hoping that's just the only screen the software had since I'm in a loophole situation and $49.99 is technically the UDP price now. Hopefully my logic makes sense. I'm going to keep an eye on it. Based on my Verizon account online, nothing's changed so far. Still $29.99 data.

so you basically just financed the iPhone with Apple's payment plan, which has nothing to do with Verizon.

if your UDP account is still under contract until 2018, you "may" still avoid the $20/month increase to $49.99. That's what I'm hoping for as well, since my contract ends in November 2018 after I transferred my upgrade back in November. :)
