I am from India and I recently updated my Moto G 1st gen ( 2014 ) from 4.4.4 to 5.1 official update . I uninstalled some apps and installed 5.1 with 563 mb free in internal storage(i.e 563 mb was free before update ) . Now 5.1 is working fine but internal storage is just 20mb free . Apps is 2.02 GB .

I suspect that the update file must have saved somewhere in the phone memory . or is the 5.1 update so big that it has taken up all the space . Someone facing the same issue kindly guide me for this issue .

Try to clear cache in the bootloader and cache in the settings. Otherwise try a factory data reset

I tried that ...It shows total space 2.21 GB .Apps 764MB . Is the stats fine or still the android update file is hiding somewhere in the system ?

I just checked that when the phone was released in May'14 it came with 2.21 total space and 2.05GB available i.e some 200Mb of apps .How come the app size has increased so dramatically ?

Have you installed anything?

It's increased because of art. It takes about 500mb to 800mb away from the storage when you upgrade. My moto g 2013 had 5gb then after the update its now 4.3gb. So that's an 800mb loss for me but I can live with it.😂
