Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

This is a thread I'm comfortable joining in!

Former OS/Device: My first smartphone was a BlackBerry Storm. Yes, I know. At the time, Android wasn't out, apple wasn't on Verizon (and I hate Itunes), and my hands made any hardware keyboards awkward. I held onto it until the Droid X launched, which I got the day it was shipped to my verizon store (Courtesy of Android Central; I did some bartering with the VZW manager in exchange for information so that she could sell more preorders.) I received a warranty replacement for my DX just this week because of a failing microphone. I switched to android because my position at UPS didn't require me to participate in an enterprise server, and I wanted more control over my device.

Previous Forums: Crackberry, though my participation was identical to that of AC. I also participate in the SwiftKey VIP forums and the Swype beta forums, when I have discovered new bugs or can give descriptions to replicate a previously reported bug. I'm also a member at XDA, but rarely have anything worth contributing.

My use of Android Central: I'm mostly a lurker. As a previous video game forum moderator, I grew to appreciate the members who only offered relevant information. I have previously abstained from forming bonds in a community, but that's a habit I'd like to change.

I currently have a bet with a local VZW sales rep regarding the Galaxy Nexus' launch date. Depending on accuracy, nexus swag and the purchase of accessories hang in the balance, as well as a guarantee for the first device off the truck. We've been sharing information as it comes out, and more frequently it's been me sending him Android Central forum links.

I just wanted to share my appreciation for the forums, and hope I can reciprocate soon.

Cai.

Hey from n. Michigan! first smartphone is still my og rooted droid. Addicted for life now...couldn't live without it! Been waiting months since my contract ended and excited for my first Nexus. Great info so far on the forum and will try to contribute when I can....my local sales rep has already preordered my Nexus from Brightpoint...pumped!!

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

First smartphone was a BlackBerry Curve 8330. Loved the possibilities internet and email wise, but always felt the BlackBerry OS felt outdated. Didn't really seem like "current" tech. I found myself only rarely visiting sites like CrackBerry for help or tips.

Enter the DROID.

I first saw the DROID Does ad in my friends basement and he told me what he'd heard about the phone. It sounded vaguely familiar from what somewhat little amount I read Engadget at that point, so I looked more into it and got hooked. Went with my friend when he got his on release day, fully expecting to get one for myself as well. Didn't realize that the annual upgrade program only worked online (had gotten a postcard from VZW a couple months before advertising it but had thrown it out due to being far from interested in any of the then-available outdated BlackBerries or whatever else VZW had), and didn't wanna pay a buttload of cash for the thing. A day later I found out about the Annual Upgrade plan and ordered online immediately. This phone was so much better than my BB. This felt like current technology.

After a little more than a year of DROID love, I found myself sucked in again, this time with the ThunderBolt. All of the hype surrounding its release is what got me checking AC like an addict and I haven't really slowed down since. I'm not as happy with my Tbolt as I was when I first got the OG DROID, but it's definitely grown on me. Bugs have been worked out (for the most part), battery life has gotten better (if it's a good day), and it finds a GPS lock before I reach my destination through trial and error (that was the worst). And it finally got Gingerbread (only about a year after it was released...).

The OG DROID and TBolt taught me a lot of things, such as how I don't actually want an iPhone like I thought I did. I've also learned that sometimes the newest device should be avoided until certain kinks are worked out (or until enough people have the device to get a good idea of what daily life with the thing is like), like with the Tbolt's battery, LTE/3G switching problems, etc. Going from a stock device to a skinned device meant gaining some cool widgets and integration, but forgoing stability and speed of updates.

My new obsession on AC is the Galaxy Nexus. Starting to get really interested in the Transformer Prime to replace my iPad 1 as well. Android Central is probably my most visited site aside from Facebook now haha, and it's a dangerous game - I've gone from getting a new phone every 2 years to every year. Now I find myself about to pounce on a new phone 8 months later. I had a hard time justifying getting an iPad and I'm already thinking of how I can justify replacing it! :-[

Hi everyone.
I sold wireless for a few years but keep abreast on the latest. I was a Blackberry user for a very long time. Had a long time love/hate relationship. And like some marriages come to an end I had to bid farewell to Blackberry. I cheated with the HTC Incredible in the store. It kept drawing me back into the store. The touchscreen was pure awesomeness. The internet really teased me with real internet experience. I finally broke down and with the help of Retention I got the Incredible. And it was just a breath of fresh air not having those BB blues. The lagging and freezing. The hiccups. Enough was enough.
And then I was offered an early upgrade and I had been wanting the Thunderbolt. There were bugs but all is fine now. I love this phone. I have it set up the way I want. Everything is good.

And the Thunder rolls!

Forgot to mention started on crackberry and moved to android central. Bit still sneak in at crackberry. I help out as well!

And the Thunder rolls!

I'm manically looking for the latest and greatest phone during my upgrade. I usually stick around after 1 month of getting my phone.

First android phone was htc Eris which was pretty crappy but still used it for 1.5 years. If I knew the phone was so slow, I would have gotten the OG Droid instead but I hate qwerty keyboards. Second android phone was Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Good phone but realize I'm too old to play videogames. I thought with a gamepad with me, I'll be playing games more. Maybe the games on android or iOS aren't really that fun after all compared to Wii/ps3.

I'm in a family plan and learn that I can use the other lines to upgrade my own. Therefore I'm upgrading now instead of 1.5 years later. Looking forward to Nexus. Learned from previous android verizon release date is that try not to pay too much attention to release date as much. It can be delayed 1-2 months like the thunderbolt/xperia play.

I'm looking forward to use a ps3 controller on the galaxy nexus to play some xperia play games. Also emulators for ps1 and n64 as well.

Former OS/Device:
My previous and also first phone was the LG Dare. Replaced the digitizer on it after it died, it lasted me a few months before the whole phone finally gave out. Now I'm stuck with a borrowed, broken hinged LG Voyager.

I lurk in the background. I usually only make a post when I have something worth contributing, or I have a question that I haven't seen answered/discussed 100 times already.

Any other interesting stuff you feel comfortable sharing.
I wish the Galaxy Nexus would hurry up and be released! I'm tired of being stuck with this Voyager lol.

Samsung Rant (Sprint Feature Phone)
Palm Pre (Sprint)
Samsung Fascinate (Verizon)
Droid X2 (Verizon)
OG Droid (Verizon)

I'm actually using the Droid X2 until I get the OG Droid set up how I want it. Then I will Use the Droid for a while UNTIL I get a Galaxy Nexus. That phone will be SO AMZING. I'll probably have to get it off-contract, but I'm sitting on an upgrade right now... I just don't know if I want to renew my contract.. Lol.

I'm mostly a lurker. Just downloading roms and stuff when I feel that my phone needs some fixin' up. Every once in a while I'll help someone with a problem if I know how to fix it. I mostly get ignored when I post threads and stuff, so that's why I lurk. Lol.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Well, I'm actually new to smartphones... so new in fact, that I'm still using a Dumbphone, the Samsung Intensity, and practically counting the days to upgrade. I've actually considered calling Verizon and begging for early upgrade, but I've got some hope that my mother will make a Christmas present out of it.

You see, it all started when I realized I hate iOS. I have my university to thank for that - in my Pharmacy doctorate program, we were told that we needed an "iDevice" in order to participate in in-class quizzes. So I went out and paid $250 for a glorified clicker - an iPod Touch. They said it would be a great investment! We'd really appreciate having the apps on rotations. And you know, I'm sure that's true. Being able to access important information quickly is a great thing. But I want to do more than that with my device - I want WIDGETS. I want to make it mine, and use that couple hundred dollars every day, not just for quizzes in a quarter of my classes. I want customization, and I don't want to HAVE to jailbreak to do it. Yeah you have to root to get full customization out of Android too, but from my investigations the flexibility pre-root is still phenomenally better than iOS.

Er, anyways, I haven't participated in any other forums - or this one much :( It's hard to get involved when I'm still so new. I'm just trying to absorb as much information as I can before purchasing an Android phone (the Galaxy Nexus :) ) so that I can dive in immediately and get exactly what I want the day I get the phone. In fact, my only real forum post so far was related to the HTC Rhyme. It seems like so long ago that I'd be satisfied with 3G; and I've never even used a smartphone! It feels like a curse, always wanting something newer and better. But I have certainly lurked all over this forum. Oh how I lurk.

As far as forum use goes, I'm an addicted lurker. Since this is all so brand-new to me, there's always another question I have that generates a need go digging around for an answer (Today's: "wtf does OEM unlocked mean" - I learn something new every day!).

Other things... Well, maybe this seems like an odd way to think, but the thing that really sold the Galaxy Nexus to me was those three lovely contact points that say "We are going to make a nice, easy dock for you! No mess, no fuss!" I am a huge sucker for accessories, hence my previous Rhyme focus. Despite the dock loving, I'll certainly still use a case on it - as long as it's not *too* difficult to pry off each night.

Former OS/Device: Dell Axim… remember those? My first handheld touchscreen, loved those things! Then a couple of Blackberries now the Samsung Fascinate running the latest CyanogenMod 7.1.0 flashed yesterday ;-)

Previous Forums: Axim forums, Crackberry

How would you describe yourself - in terms of forum participation? I’m addicted to AndroidCentral, no other forums really, I look at tablet-news some…

Any other interesting stuff you feel comfortable sharing: I love flashing new ROMS, trying the latest apps… I’m old! (48) and female so I think I may be in the minority here, I’m always sharing my latest Android knowledge w/my girls who are 16 & 18! I figure this hobby is pretty safe, since the other option is shopping online, LOL. I’m the company accountant, buyer and in house network person for a small manufacturer located in southern Oregon.

Pic of my phone... how do you do that?! I'm sure I could figure it out... but I can tell you I have a lovely picture of the Oregon State campus in the fall as my wallpaper ;-)

Get the ShootMe app for screen shots & you don't have to be rooted. Install it, start it, hide it, navigate to screen of interest and shake the phone...done. Pic will be in your gallery.

Someone helped me get it, so paying it forward.

I am using an original droid and holding out for the galaxy nexus. I have used wp(way back in the day) IOS, and webos and currently have a touch pad. Been a member on these forums along with TIPB, crackberry, precentral, and wpcentral. Love reading all of the helpful info that people post on here and everyone that helps when people have issues. Hopefully only a little longer until we all can have our own galaxy nexus and a taste of ICS:)

Hi!

My name's Bill and I'm from West Chester, PA (YES, BEFORE YOU ASK, IT IS WHERE BAM MARGERA LIVES. SHEESH).

My previous device would by my (current) Droid Incredible that loves to overheat when used for longer than 15 minutes and then go into an infinite reboot loop!

I did not come from another forum, when I first became interested in Android phones, I came to this site before any others (not trying to suck up here, it's true).

Forum participation? I'm a hardcore lurker that rarely creates new topics, but I do post from time to time.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

The short version is that I love reading bio's and learning little more about our members. It's always something I've enjoyed.

When the Galaxy Nexus is finally released, I will randomly pick 3 members and send out a free Galaxy Nexus case (once available in the AC store).

Special consideration will be given to those who regularly participate in the forums and stay away from personal attacks and trolling.

Hey.. so because I'm new here, and new to Android, you're saying I'm not welcome to win? Is that the love I get being a current CrackBerry visitor?

Former OS/Device:

  • Blackberry, touchscreen only please - Storm2 currently, started with a Storm

Previous Forums:

Hmm.. I'm looking to Android to solve a whole host of problems for me. I like the app space out there, and see potential in some other non-phone uses, such as ways I can integrate my phone for use in auto racing which I compete in regularly.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Former OS/Device: First smartphone was a HTC Incredible.
Current Device: Moto Droid X. Had 3 Incredibles, all software issues and finally asked for a different replacement phone and the DX it was. It's currently on Froyo rooted running Liberty with a Honeycomb-esque theme. This has been a pretty good phone, good battery life and generally good performance. However, I have a large crack across the screen (not too noticable, it's thin), the display is below average, and I oftentimes have trouble waking up the device and have to do a battery pull or just wait a few minutes and try again.
My first forum was AndroidForums almost 2 years ago anxiously waiting for the Incredible, but currently I lurk here and there for Nexus news :)

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I started out with a Nokia bag phone way back when. Most of the younger ones have no idea what that is. lol. used several different phones before going to Palm 600-650, then Blackberry 8330, then to Android. Have the OG Droid. I love the android system and the way you can customize everthing. Love my Droid but its time to go to a faster phone. Torn between Razor and Nexus. I was a Crackberry addict now I faithfully follow the forums here. Can't wait to try the Nexus when it comes out!:D

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Hi everyone! I am currently using a Palm Pre + after having to switch back to Verizon due to to much roaming on Sprint with my orig. July 2009 Pre. I absolutely love webOS and am heartbroken by all that has happened. I have never loved a phone or OS as much as my pre and am in turmoil over my dying phone. My contract is up this week and so it's time for me to make a decision. I am down to deciding between the Rezound and the Galaxy Nexus only because ICS looks to incorporate some similar components as webOS. I am truly struggling with all of this and was hoping to be able to get some hands on time with both at a Verizon store, however this is sounding like it may not be able to happen. BTW, my husband has a Droid 2, which I do not like. I have not used HTC scense except briefly on a Rhyme. I think it seems cleaner than Blur on my husbands phone.

I have enjoyed precentral for a couple of years now and look forward to any suggestions from androidcentral.

Thanks,
Nikki

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Hello all. David (dlhstick) here.

Anxiously hoping that the GN will be out sooner than later. I am waiting to go full out on Android after making the switch from BB to Android (via my Droid Pro) over a year ago. I figure what better way than that then with an actual Nexus device!! Bring on the Galaxy!

Former devices include: BB Storm2 (maxed it out until it shattered); BB Curve (@ the time, it was light years better than the 7130e); BB7130e (it seems like a brick now - how did i ever use that??)

Current device: Droid Pro running Gingerbread using GO Launcher Ex with the ICS theme

Forum use: longtime Crackberry forum reader; and have been on AC forums now for a little over a year; i use the forums to solve issues that i have with my phone; the users here know sooo much more than the VZW reps; I try to help out with other questions when i definitely know that i can contribute; i stay away from commenting on forum debates but do enjoy reading them. I am also an avid podcaster catching the AC, CrackBerry, TCPJ and Mobile Nations podcasts when available.

Thanks for the chance to win a case!
