iOS 8, Your Thoughts?

I agree 100%. I just got the Nokia Icon (think I saw you on the WP forums as well) and the UI is fairly nice, but even then I don't like it nearly as nice as my customized screen. Personal opinion of course, but I just don't know how having a screen that you can customize in 1000000 different ways is worse than WP UI as some WP fans suggest. I have said before that WP is super limited. The OS is great if you aren't a big power-user and you like getting only what you see.

Android is just a completely different animal and it can be as powerful or as useless as you want it to be.

On a separate note. I will give iOS BIG props for the many improvements in 8.1 The biggest imo is the Swift platform they will be using. This makes me even more excited for I/O personally as I know Google will be forced to come up with something great to match it.

Android has a million different launchers that all look the same with one or two minor features that might change it. Outside of that they have half-baked clone launchers of iOS and Windows Phone. Still to this day there isn't a decent gesture based launcher and the only ones that aren't a static row of icons are clones of Windows Phone. That's why it's half-baked. Plus there's the fact that you're required to alter it to some degree to have a UI that's aesthetically pleasing, often requiring paid apps to fill the shortcomings of the general UI.

Android User for maybe 3 years now and I use my phone mainly for productivity. But I use Google Services for my productivity so that why I have not switched yet Google Services the best on Android.

Can't argue with that. I dislike Google services so that's not a drawing point for me. I just think Google is the most evil company around today.

No, that's the point of Android, you can do what you want! I can have my phone look like whatever I want it to, that's the beauty of Android and there is no other OS like it.

Sure they all work the same or look the same if you don't root or mess with any roms. The UI can look VASTLY different if you want it to. Also for great touch gestures or to make your UI look aesthetically pleasing you don't need to pay for anything. You just need to learn to root, rom, and s-off your phone. I am running the ViperOne rom. I can tweak any colors I want, manually set gestures to what I need, have flash go off on notifications, and a million other things.

1,000s of times more powerful than the zero-customization of WP.

So again; Android can be as powerful or as useless as you want, but when you choose to go all out on customization it leaves WP and iOS in the dust imo.

I think actual companies that infringe on human rights like WalMart or fund terrorist groups like Chiquita deserves hate. I don't know, that's just me, a tech company that actually does some good in the world is pretty far down the list of companies to hate.

I've been a power user since 09 and still regularly root and crack flash roms on several Android devices. At the end of the day, they don't look that different. Just the same static rows of icons. I hate using the analogy because I don't see Android as a turd but you can polish it and wrap it in aluminum foil but at the end of the day, it's still a turd. I've never seen any vastly different UI changes regardless of launcher or rom unless they were ripping someone else off poorly.

Wow. Nothing pleases you but big fonts and Tiles eh?

Either you:

1. Have never used Android.

2. Are lying.

3. Or have simply never customized an Android phone.

Saying they aren't vastly different is hilarious.

I'm going to play along for a second and say if even what you said WAS true and it wasn't that much different (which is a complete lie; I can disprove it first hand) it is STILL 100x better than the damn near 0 customization that WP UI has.

Combine it with everything else Android has and it isn't even close in functionality.

As stated earlier, I can show you 11,000+ posts on XDA most of which were Android based that say otherwise. Same with Modaco and all the other big forums of the time before these were around.

I actually presently have a Moto X, I'll be picking up the Moto X+1 when it drops.

Go ahead, prove they're vastly different. Almost all of them are the same static sea of icons. You can get different icons, widgets, whatever. It all looks very stale and dead to me. I like my home screen to be live. I like to be constantly informed without having to touch my device. Very well executed. That's why I love my Windows Phone. That and the keyboard is without a doubt the best in terms of prediction and general accuracy.

It's nowhere close in terms of functionality. I'll be the first to admit that. That said, it's miles ahead in form and execution.

You like Tiles. That's all you have to say. Android without a doubt is far more powerful and intuitive, but you prefer the way Windows Phone looks, because everything you are saying boils down to exactly that. Let's shuffle along now.

Let's do it this way, these were rated the best launchers on Android.

google-now-launcher-580-100.jpg

nova-launcher-580-100.jpg

zeam-580-100.jpg

There's a few who try to differentiate, then there's the bizarre and impractical like Next Launcher but they all fail to be anything more than a static sea of icons.

That's not the case at all. I like a reliable OS that is alive. Tiles are little more than resized icons and I've actually put tiles on my Android device hoping for a best of both worlds kind of scenario but it wasn't there. It's not reliable, there's not a good enough keyboard replacement, it lags even on the highest end (Especially Samsung garbage) and it's not intuitive.

There is 0 form or execution in the customization of WP. So it is exactly 0 miles ahead. In fact it is miles behind. I would rather have MUCH more increased functionality and a little worse execution then having ZERO functionality with ZERO execution.

So you pick the ones that look the same yet fail to use screenshots of the ones that actually differ? Whether or not they are impractical doesn't matter. You SAID they ALL look the same. This is obviously not the case and it can be seen by the next launcher which is also one of the top paid launchers.

Your argument essentially crumbles there.

Sadly, the other ones offered videos on youtube as opposed to pictures and I refuse to use Google services. It's worth noting that the one key differentiator was an $18 piece of software and was noted as being highly impractical for daily use and was more a gimmick to show off to friends.

It does offer little in the way of customization. We just got backgrounds. It's all about the execution of what it does do as opposed to a million half-baked things that it does do. What it does do is executed flawlessly. Hell, even the wallpapers on this thing are a joy to use and I hate wallpapers.

1. So then you agree that it radically change the design. Again you are dodging the question now and are just saying how impractical you think it is. The original argument was that you could NOT radically change Android, and that is simply not true.

Which is 100x worse for me because that lack of customization limits nearly everything I can do. Customization might not matter for a casual user; but it does for a power-user. I bet I can do more with one tasker widget than you can do with any live tile you have.

You are not proving your cause well, we get it, Tiles and Wallpapers ruffly your jammies. But we are super off topic. Let's get back to iOS 8.

Yeah, not a power user or anything, just a software engineer who built half their roms themself and is working with a small team on a full scale MMO for Windows Phone as we speak. No, the ability to flash a rom totally and the desire to modify something makes you more a power user. Definitely.

When something in Windows Phone is broken or half baked like Android's UI and keyboard, I'll be the first one to jump onboard the customization wagon. As it stands, I like having a phone that does everything it does exceptionally well and having my hardest decision to make being, "Hmm, do I want to use the nokia camera software or the stock camera software to take better pictures than I could on any other phone?"

E; and yes, it can very well be done. The problem is that no one has done it well.
