iPad Mini resolution no match for Nexus 7.

So basically, the best they could come up with in comparing to the N7 was that it has a bigger screen. No mention of screen quality, no mention of performance. Gee, I guess more screen space makes it a better tablet!

Ha! $429 for 32gb iPad Mini! That's nuts!!

Consider yourself warned that price tag is for rich people only :)

I think Apple shot themselves in the foot since they didn't put Retina in there. It probably made sense, but I found it ridiculous that they would release something non Retina this year.

I think they didn't add the retina display as it probs would of added more weight, thickness to the tablet, so they didn't put it in so they could make it as light n thin as possible. NEXUS 7 FTW

Yeah honestly the lack of retina is the biggest issue. Screw the ipad 2,should of been discontinued. They should of done what it takes to allow the ipad mini have the retina display at that price point. Kill the ipad 2, make all mini models underneath the price of the 4 and they might have a winner. No doubt they'd have a real argument about the screen being better than the nexus 7 without having to resort to screen size!

Speaking of ipad 4,what a mess that is. What I'm seeing really is a company struggling without Steve Jobs

They should check the features and specs before buying tablets.

The average person won't know. My wife was asking me about the iPad mini and I told her its much more expensive compared to Android tablets that have better tech. She said to me "I wouldn't know I'd just see iPad in the store and think 'oh that is apple is must be good'"

This is a huge problem for competitors right now, mind share with non techie buyers. People just assume they get top tier stuff with apple because it's apple and don't bother doing research or asking why they're paying more. They figure higher cost means it's better.

Yeah that's why it's going to be a hit. I think it'll sell great but I don't think it's going to leave the nexus and kf dead in 6 months. We all know apple has very much gained a cult like following over the past decade and they could throw an apple logo on a dog turd and sell it for $300 and sell millions in weeks.

They are starting to slip up a bit but they are going to have to screw up a lot and I mean a LOT more before their products stop selling so well.

I say oh well. Apple wasn't just going to sit by and ignore the smaller tablet market anyway, this was inevitable, I just thought they'd make a more quality competitor myself. I enjoy my nexus 7 and that's what matters most of all :-)

This. I thought for sure they were going to blow the doors off in one way or another, may it be price, "specs" (which Apple never cares for yet always likes using with vague references, so riddle me that, Batman), or just simply ideas.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

I don't see how the mini will compete with the Nexus 7 when it comes to real world usage. The Nexus 7 will fly compared to the mini based on specs

Not sure if said already, but I think the 16GB will be 199 and the 32gb will be 249. I also think the 32gb will have 100MB a month for free for 1 year (maybe 2).

Think about this for a second. The 32GB mini with cellular is 559 + contract. (yes it has LTE). While the N7 32 GB cellular will be $249 + no contract. THATS 2 NEXI WITH CASH LEFT OVER!

The 100mb free is just my hunch.

My impression , all this is is an iPad 2 shrank down some. Still priced to high and it's too wide to be comfortable. And the price is too high. 16 is 329, 32 is 429 , 64 is 519 kiss my a$$$.

They can and will price it at whatever they want. It has an apple on the back. Therefore people wiolk go out and buy it,,,no matter what it does or doesn't do.

honestly I am no apple fan boy, I have an ipad 2... and am buying a note 2 (upgrading old android phone) when my contract is up on the 1st. So I am as level headed as they come to this "war"

However anyone that buys an ipad mini is probably half ed... the ipad 2 is still a fantastic tablet and will now be probably the same price refurbed from apple as the mini is new. Anyone spending the same money to have literally a smaller version of an ipad 2 is an idiot.

There are a lot of resolution "nerds" out there, but there to me is no need to cram all of those pixels into a tablet, upgrade a processor and charge 200 dollars more... the ipad 2 is still way above average to me and is better *hides* than 90-95%% of the android tablets I have played around with including the nexus 7. I am not even trolling, just my 2 cents and honest opinion.. just trying to point out how dumb it would be to spend 329 on an ipad mini.

There are lots of people who don't have an iPad at all because they feel they're too expensive. A less expensive iPad mini would be the Christmas present for the kids. It has the "name" that people recognize so it'll sell like crazy.

I think their arrogance will get them eventually. Not now but maybe 5 years from now. With technology changing so quickly, and competitors pushing the envelope on tech both in phones and tablets, eventually Apple's high prices won't be able to be justified even by the average consumer. They'll realize that competitor X has a much more powerful offering for lower cost and wonder why Apple is charging so much. Apple at that point will either lower their costs (which cuts into their profit margins and will make shareholders unhappy), or they'll stick to their arrogant attitude that their stuff should cost more and they'll lose market share.

Nope. Check again sir, 4S is A5, Mini is A5 also. A5X is iPad 3. A6 is in the iPhone 5. :)

Oh yeahhhhh... I forgot. But the revamped iPad 3 introduced yesterday has an A6X, right?

The cool part is that Apple really forces Google to keep their game up, and vice versa. I seriously doubt Apple would have rushed something this low-cost (for Apple) to the table so quickly if El Goog hadn't changed the game by introducing an affordable and high-performing 7" fondleslab, nor do I think Google would be looking at price drops, more memory, and a 3G radio so soon after introduction if Apple hadn't introduced the Min-iPad/iPodMaxx.

I love competition. It's made of win.

I agree, and regardless of what Apple says about this being in their plan all along, the iPad mini feels like a rushed product. They were caught off guard thinking there was no market for smaller tablets and never planned on making one until they saw Android tablets selling. I say it feels rushed because they just took their old tech (A5 chip, non-retina screen) and slapped them into a smaller form factor. Anyone who claims this took them a long time to engineer is fooling themselves. Their biggest decision was screen size and they figured 7.9" vs. 7" they could trump how they have "more room" on their screen then 7" tablets. All the technology is already there, it wouldn't have taken Apple very long at all to put this product together.

Amen to that.

My flyer basically had the same resolution if you take the 4:3 aspect ratio out of the question. The screen seemed pretty good all and all but I definitely saw the difference in the nexuses higher resolution.

I just think apples argument is kinda stupid. "more display area". Well of course it's 9/10ths of an inch larger. It would be the same thing if Samsung attacked the nexus 7 head on with the tab2 10.1. Of course it has more display area its a larger tablet! But I'd rather take the resolution and small form factor over the larger screen.

I really have to see one in person and hold it to really judge but I just can't see it being as easy one handed as the nexus 7 at that size

I actually really like the mini. i think the price point was about $25-$30 too high, but that is just me. if they matched the N7 in resolution it would be a different story.

this thing is going to sell like hotcakes. there are plenty of people out there that LOVE their iPad2 who would love to have it in a smaller package.
it has better build quality, and better apps and there is no doubting that.

but i absolutely HATE how apple swings their products.
hey our iPad mini has a 7.9" screen vs the N7's 7" screen,
it also has 60% more square inches of screen real estate
you also get 58% more viewable web pages.
yeah, we get it...bigger screen is bigger.
