iPad or Tab

Everyone that says they don't use there iPad any more I'll buy it from you at a good price if you don't use it lol. The tab is far behind the iPad right not. The web browser is a joke compared to the iPad. It is not as smooth as the iPad when surfing the web. I have them both and I cant wait until they update the tab with a andro system that was mention for the tab not a phone. If you really have both then you know what I'm talking about. The tab is cool but to me it seem like it was rushed and not ready. I love my evo will never go back to blackberry. But the iPad is like the evo and the tab is like a blackberry right now.

Its still cool to have but can not even compare to a jailbroke iPad but then again this is a andro forum lol most here will have their knee pads on and talk about how awesome the tab is lol.

I am sorry, but what makes iOS for the iPad "made for a tablet?" I am tired of hearing that argument. IMO, iOS is not optimized for a tablet...so much screen real estate is wasted on my ipad its annoying.

I think what google meant was that applications are not designed to "take advantage of the screen" meaning "they don't have two columns of information OOO" Honestly all the apps scale up fine and I like it that way. How is Angry birds NOT tablet optimized? What would Angry birds look like if it was "tablet optimized?" IMO Android does a MUCH better job handling apps on a tablet then iOS...FBook for the iPad is a joke.

If you don't like the tab fine...but use real reasons....you don't like the form factor, you don't like the apps, you hate Google, you hate android, all of those are logical reasons to not buy a tab, but stop making this **** up.

btw. I have owned 2 iPads and 2 tabs (both are returned, but I have had extensive use with both).

I agree, some of the arguments against the GTab are just parroted nonsense.

"The apps/OS aren't optimized for tablet"
Seriously? Maybe if the GTab were 10" there would be an issue, but most apps stretch out and Spare Parts handles the rest. In the meantime, it's still small enough to play games using your thumbs whereas different mechanics are needed on the iPad. I play Angry Birds in the Evo and GTab, and there is no difference in experience. What needs to be optimized, exactly? This is nonsense.

"The browser isn't smooth"
From the people who brag about how many apps there are for the iPad, the idea that someone could download another browser to replace the stock one is somehow a huge problem. If you use, say, Dolphin HD and turn Flash on demand, it's not a problem at all. Oh, and it has Flash. That's a huge plus.

"It's only a little bigger than my Evo"
Really? The GTab is 162% larger than the Evo. It's substantially bigger than the Evo. That's over 2 1/2 times bigger. It's about as wide in portrait mode as the Evo is in landscape. To say it doesn't give you a different experience because "it isn't much bigger" is sheer nonsense.

The iPad is designed for resting on a lap or desk and has to be carried in a bag or portfoilio. The GTab is designed for holding in one hand and fits into pockets. It's a specific and substantial form factor difference. I prefer the latter for what I do, so it's a no brainer for me.

Umm, exactly. I'm so sick of hearing these nonsense arguments. Lol. The GTab is better in just about every catagory people!

That will look cool in your pocket lol right next to your pocket protecter..

I use them both they are both cool but the iPad is better right now.

well I went with the TAb. I have had an iphone before and did not care for it. I love the android OS and the size of the tab. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions from here.

Congrats. Its the **** isn't it? Good choice man, good choice. Top notch device.

After using my GTab for over a month and receiving an iPad as my Christmas gift from my wife, I still prefer my Tab. The portability of the Tab is a definite plus. The games for the iPad are incredible though. I installed about 8-10 of the Gameloft and EA games on the iPad and I'm down to about 5 gigs remaining of my 16. Maybe that's the price to pay of having high end graphics like that. I know that Apple has many more apps than Android, but I have the apps that I need on my Tab. Except for the gaming selection and graphics, my Tab more than meets my needs and will get more play than my iPad.

I have the same problem. I got a Sprint GTab for Christmas but it just seems to lag a lot, even when browsing with Dolphin HD. My Evo seems to work a lot smoother, plus, my Evo blew away the GTab with its Quadrant Standard score. I'm thinking of returning and getting the iPad. Has anyone come out with a lag fix? I know the Galaxy phones had a similar problem. Thanks.

I use them both they are both cool but the iPad is better right now.

Not for smooth payback of 720p mkv videos downloaded straight from the internet.

Not as a remote desktop or Citrix client.

Not for quick thumb typing.

Basically, not for anything I use the Galaxy Tab for.

I went with the Tab

My mom got an iPad a while back, and I would use it when I went over to her house and I thought it was cool but it annoyed me that some of the things I was used to doing on my Android phone (Dinc) didn't work on the Pad (long press, menu button, etc.). Sure I could learn to get used to the Pad, but why? I like Android, I am used to using it, I liked the size of the Tab so for me it was an easy choice. I have not been disappointed with the Tab. It fits into my jacket or pants pocket and I can easily take it with me just about anywhere. Works great in the gym for video/audio/ebook while doing cardio. I am interested to see what Gingerbread and or Honeycomb will bring to the table and how the Tab will improve with the updates.

I bought my wife the Tab for Christmas. I was walking through Target and asked my wife if she wanted the iPad and she said it was too big. She uses the tab at work when they eat lunch in the break room, and wherever she goes. It fits right into her purse and is easy to tote around. The iPad is too big for that. She says the only place she would use the iPad is around the house (it's too big to take out), she might as well use her notebook. It's not worth the money.

I have a Nexus One and I like the Tab myself. I don't understand the criticism of the browser; it's around the same speed as the stock on the N1.

I've heard a lot about the new tabs that are coming out and people should wait, but you can always think that way about high tech gear. There's always a better device coming down the pike.

Anyway, I think it's a good device.
PS: I read that the Tab is getting Gingerbread the end of Q1 11.

Seriously, there is no one perfect device, no matter what Steve KnobJobs thinks. But, the GT comes pretty close for me. It's portable access to the internet, email, social apps, etc.

Saturday before Christmas, shopping for one last gift for my grandson. Found it at a local store but the price had increased twenty bucks since I last saw it. Scanned the barcode with my GT and searched for it online. Left there to grab a bite to eat, whipped out the GT and completed an online purchase with free shipping for thirty bucks less than buying local.

Sure I could have done that with my phone but what a PITA on a small screen. The GT is big enough to use easily but still small enough to fit in my coat pocket. Each to their own but I'm sold on my Tab.

I looked carefully at both the iPad and Tab at Best Buy a few weeks back and ended up with the $499 wifi iPad. The Tab is just too small, expensive and unpolished, IMO. This isn't to say I will never buy an Android tablet, just that the Tab doesn't meet my needs and is far too expensive for what you get.

The stock Tab web browser is sluggish, scrolling is choppy, and it didn't render some pages correctly (CNN.com for one). Dolphin HD is supposed to work well, but I couldnt install it in the store to try out. Safari on the iPad is fast and smooth, scrolling, zooming and UI response is truly instantaneous.

The Tab looks small enough to fit in my back pocket, but I might as well just use my Smartphone which is even more pocketable, not that much smaller and has an identical UI. Flash is nice, but only good for video streaming. I use Skyfire on the iPad to view the few Flash Vids I run into on the web, it works well enough.

Also, I can thumb type quite quickly on the iPad in portrait mode. I typed this post just fine.

Yeah... no. The Galaxy Tab is over 2 1/2 times larger than the Evo, and the size differential is huge. If your phone is smaller than an Evo, the Galaxy Tab is 3-4 times larger.

I don't understand how the Galaxy Tab is only slightly bigger than the Evo since the difference in screen size is 2.7", but the iPad, which is, guess what -- 2.7" bigger than the Galaxy Tab -- is somehow way bigger. To put it another way, the Galaxy Tab is, percentage-wise, larger than the Evo than the iPad is larger than the Galaxy Tab.

If you want to say that a 7" tab is too small for your tastes, that's fine. But to say that it's no bigger than a phone is flat out wrong.

That guy does not own an EVO. He has an iPhone. He's just regurgitating other posts.

Um, his profile says he owns a Captivate...

And, for those who don't understand why people say they can't understand why people keep harping on the screen size, I'll try to help you out.

Aspect Ratio has a lot to do with it. The iPad has a wider Aspect Ratio than the GTab, giving the appearance of larger size beyond the physical diagonal measurement (iPad exterior Aspect ratio is apprx. 1.28:1 whereas the GT's is 1.58:1)

Also, people are comparing both to their phone screen, and is it any surprise that an almost 10" screen will look significantly larger than a 7" screen when compared to a 4" phone?

Also, if you have a 4" galaxy S phone, the tab's overall appearance is very much like the phone's (much in the same way the iPad's is like the iPhone). the Tab behaves a lot like the phones, so for a lot of practical purposes it is just a bigger version of their existing phone (hell, it even has a phone in it, so....)

I've used them all, and I like the tab more than the iPad, screen size not withstanding. But I do understand where those that favour the iPad come from.
