cmon let him switch to the iPhone, it's his choice and his right. oh and don't worry. if you need to make a video call, we'll turn on our android wifi hotspots for you :)

I was sure to thank you for that one cause it made me laugh hard! lol

Iphone 4 vs. Incredible

There is actually some debate over whether the Incredible or Evo is the superior phone. However, it seems clear the Iphone 4 will be the new leader in the smart phone race. Is it really much of a surprise? It was unthinkable that apple would debut an Iphone that wasn't state of the art.

I will say though, it feels like the Iphone has taken the lead as opposed to lapping the field. If you look at the specs the Iphone 4 has a slight edge over the Incredible in most categories and has a few new features (video talk?), but doesn't really blow the Incredible out of the water.

Video talk may be the future but presently seems like nothing more than a novelty (especially if it only works on WIFI). Depending on where you live the Verizon network might be enough to tip the scales in favor of the Incredible.

The touch screen specs look pretty impressive. Haven't seen what the processsor speed wil be, yet (haven't really looked).

The thing is that the iPhone has to compete with both hardware AND software. All Google has to worry about is their OS - with so many different hardware manufacturers out there right now making Android devices, it won't be long at all before we see phones that match up or surpass the new iPhone. I wouldn't be surprised if there's not one before the end of the summer (Droid Extreme, Droid Scorpion, etc).

Agreed, but Apple has the resources to do this. Also, (now I am not an Apple fanboy) it makes more sense to me that if one company is in control of the software and the hardware, then they should be able to design the "perfect" product. By perfect, I really mean the most stable and user friendly...I think Apple really has won on that front. I love my Incredible and it is the first Android device I have owned (previously only BB's), but it has had its fair share of hiccups and I have had to use these forums to learn a lot that I think the iPhone users just don't have to deal with...Again, please don't flame me...Seriously, I love my Android device...I'm just sayin'...

I don't think it's clear that the new iphone 4 will be the leader. The only true hardware difference is the new conference camera facetime thing, which I think is more gimmicky than useful. The rest of the changes aren't dramatic. They finally offered multi-tasking. Wow! Cool!

I have a mac and I had an iphone. Never was overly impressed with the iphone. I am pretty impressed with the mac though. And I love the incredible, the only thing I don't like is the stock battery.

Iphone 4 looks amazing but... they still are too controlling of their hardware and software. i will support the company that allows more customization and lets the consumers tailor their devices to their needs.

I can agree with that. And that is why Android is arguably better now and with much more potential to be the clear cut leader in the future.

the biggest two reasons the iphone4 will do well is 1. brand 2. the app store, previous iphone users who buy a lot of apps will be hesitant to lose the money they have sunk into it.

spec wise, the phone (aside from the screen) is nothing special or revolutionary. but apple has never really been about specs.

it's a marketing game. and apple has the advantage there.

but i really like my incredible.

Agree with all points. It really is not that better. The only way it's better is the screen (possibly) and the front-facing camera. They have been playing catch-up with multi-tasking. I'm surprised that the 3GS didn't have multi-tasking capabilities; BB even beat them to it by years!

Incredible > IPhone, I think. (though I would buy the IPhone, if I were on AT&T- It's going to be the best smartphone AT&T has).

The battery life on the iPhone 4 is also much better. And you have to seperate the hardware from software. So:

iPhone hardware > Inc/Evo/Droid etc
Android 2.2 or even 2.1 > iOS 4

I see hardware from Moto or HTC matching or surpassing the iPhone 4 by the end of the year. Look at what happened last year with the 3GS and then the Droid for comparison. the iPhone will be the best phone out for a couple months and then the rest of the year will belong to various Android phones on various carriers.

In the end, Android wins. Its on more phones on more carriers (especially in the US).

The point I wanted to make was that while Apple has pushed into the lead with the new Iphone, the margin by which it has done so is limited. It is easy to imagine an android phone being launched in the near future that is superior to the Iphone 4 . The rest of the smart phone field has caught up to Apple. From now on the title of "best" smart phone will probably change from month to month. Furthermore, the measure by which advancements are made is sure to be much more incremental.

As an Incredible owner I'm actually kind of relieved by the Iphone 4 launch. The devices are very comparable and the Incredible has the edge in some ways (Verizon vs. AT&T anyone?). There just aren't many things the Iphone 4 "can do" that the Incredible can not.

previous iphone users who buy a lot of apps will be hesitant to lose the money they have sunk into it.

not to mention all the accessories and programs

Apple has done a great job of selling a 'lifestyle' rather than individual gadgets. Blackberry tried this and succeeded to a lesser extent. But I sincerely doubt that any of the the iDrones I know will ever leave the carefully built world of Apple tech they have intertwined their lives with. They use Apple products for everything.

I agree. The new iPhone is really nice, but is not a huge improvement over the Incredible. To a large extent Apple was playing catch up. They couldn't release anything much slower or with lower resolution without being panned for putting out something inferior to the latest Android phones.

You can only use it on Wi-Fi, there's no ability to record the video streams, brand new system instead of existing (like skype/qik), only supports iPhone 4.

That we know of. For all we know the next version of OS X will include it. (in fact, I would bet on it) We can almost guarantee the iPad will have it as well.

lol the iPad doesn't even have a camera...........

I like both Android and iPhone but Verizon is my carrier of choice and I don't wanna leave them. My annual upgrade is in January but I'll wait till summer to see what new phones are out on Verizon then. If the next iPhone comes to Verizon and I like it, I'll probably use my upgrade on it. Till then, Droid does for me.

iPhone is overrated anyway, Droid Incredible blows it away. Even the new version it is still better. If you want the video conference thing then the EVO has that and VZW will almost certainly have the better version of that (minus 4G of course) by sometime this winter.
