iPhone 6's are bending when sitting down?

Apple responds:

-snip-

With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus. As with any Apple product, if you have questions please contact Apple."

9 complaints out of 10,000,000. Yeah, serious issue.

The fact that folks actually contacted Apple makes it a lil more serious than just users posting on the internet. And this was within 6 days.

6 days, 9 complaints about bent phones....is nothing to just brush aside.....no matter how many millions they sell. Thats a lil more than 1 complaint a day for the same issue. Maybe some will look at it like you....but some may look at it like how I posted...and think it could be a serious issue. We will see if more complaints come out and/or Apple actually tries to do something to fix it. Because Antenna Gate was real. Antenna gate was IMO waaay more serious too.

May be apples obsession with thinness is coming back to haunt them. There was no real need for the 6 to be any thinner than the 5, customers didn't want it, they simply wanted longer battery life and a bigger screen! But Apple knows best apparently! So I hope that the extra 1mm that they saved was worth it!

I find it quite funny how some people are getting worked up with the criticisms over on mac rumours! I mean there are those are there who cannot and will not accept that Apple has any flaws, I guess that's what you mean by iSheep! That's why I find this forum quite refreshing, seems to have more balanced and realistic opinions and discussions.

Re: So you want an iPhone 6

It's damage control. The guy can't prove Samsung is responsible for the damage and they can't force him to take the video down without hiring some expensive lawyers and going to court.......so they offered a compromise. "We'll replace your phone for free if you remove the video and abide by this disclosure clause"

A story that got world-wide attention... that IS a serious issue. Some product reputations have been ruined over less.... The fact that Apple had to publicly respond should illustrate the gravity of the story and once getting that genii back in the bottle is near impossible. To the uninitiated (meaning most of the public) the whole 'will it bend' thing will follow the iP6 around, whether it is fair or not.

Is this overblown? Yep... very much so. But I'm in the "what goes around, comes around" category. Apple spent far too long strutting around like a perfect peacock, belittling their competition at every opportunity. If you act like that, don't get so shocked that everyone will laugh and point when you trip and fall on your face. They brought this upon themselves.

Apple responds:

Our iPhones are designed, engineered and manufactured to be both beautiful and sturdy. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature a precision engineered unibody enclosure constructed from machining a custom grade of 6000 series anodized aluminum, which is tempered for extra strength. They also feature stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations and use the strongest glass in the smartphone industry. We chose these high-quality materials and construction very carefully for their strength and durability. We also perform rigorous tests throughout the entire development cycle including 3-point bending, pressure point cycling, sit, torsion, and user studies. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real life use.

With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus. As with any Apple product, if you have questions please contact Apple."

Lots of fluff in there. High Quality, Precision Engineered, Beautiful and Sturdy, Strongest, Rigorous Tests...etc, etc...and then they can't resist closing with a snarky remark that strongly implies users are to blame. Despite the fact that the 6+'s weak design is trivial to prove.

9 complaints out of 10,000,000. Yeah, serious issue.

$23 Billion in lost market value is serious any way you look at it. Investors don't seem satisfied with Apple's statement.

I personally do think it is overblown, but I am quite happy to see the fallout because it could stunt the industry-wide movement to slippery, easily damaged metal phones, which I think is ridiculously vain and impractical.

This.

Re: So you want an iPhone 6

SMH. 9 people out of 10+ million reported bending problems. 9.0.

Apple said the same thing at the start with Antenagate with my old iPhone 4 that had to be replaced four times in 16 months and it was in a case. It is clear to see where Apple put the sound volume control button all that missing metal for the buttons leaves a soft point in the frame to bend at that point. Most people don't even have the phones yet or have time to accidentally bend them but give it more time and this is going to be a big design problem that will haunt Apple.

iMore has stated in the iPhone 6 Plus forum; "AT&T representative, who told me that almost everyone's iPhone 6+ won't be getting shipped until November."

Doubt it. But I'm sure you guys will be there to point fingers and laugh.

The bickering and holier than thou stuff from Apple fans AND Android fans is nauseating. Seriously.

Hypocritical much?

But of course that is a non-issue but Apple phones bending because a 300+ pound man bends his iPhone between his fat flabs is apparently.
Oddly enough a friend of mine had a similar issue not two weeks ago with his Note 3 smoking and sparking when he plugged it in to charge. I believe he was able to go to the ATT store and replace it but that's still pretty scary. One of the many reasons I refuse to ever buy a Samsung device.

Was he using a different battery or charger? This has happened to many different manufactured phones, even iPhones

At this moment, Apple stock is at it's highest price since the 7 to 1 stock split. So, there goes the "unsatisfied investors" theory.
