Is anybody else unhappy with 18.5:9 aspect ratio?

I was going to buy S8 but now I'm actually going to wait for Note 8. Stretching screen like that is like cheating in my opinion. What am I going to get for games and video black side bars?

..Kinda expecting the Note 8 to go that route...

I don't think there is anyone that is happy with it. But I think the consensus is that 2:1 is here to stay. I'm not sure what the .5 means to the aspect ratio but 18:9 is going to be common.

But don't ask about the rounded corners!

I have mixed emotions about this new aspect ratio and I even opened a thread about how the screen size is misleading but it seems for the most part no one cares to comment about it, I'm personally not fond of black bars while watching videos and what size do the bars shrink the screen to? Its like trading physical bezels for virtual bezels lol

And why 18.5 and not 18:9?

Yeah, this is going to sound nitpicky, but I think it's going to prove that that .5 will be the real problem.

I'm sure 18:9 will be the next standard aspect ratio within about a year, and everyone will convert to it quickly enough, but that extra little bit will probably do little bit make it slightly more obnoxious to reach for the top of the phone.

They may have done it to accommodate the screenspace lost for the navigation buttons, but it still seems just a little too tall to me.

Will have no idea if I'm happy - or unhappy - with it until, you know, I actually have it to use.

Not unhappy. Just not used to it yet. I think that the sooner all the app makers get onboard the better the transition will be for me. From what I see so far it's not bad IMO.

Used it briefly on the G6. It's not that bad at all. In fact, once you get used to it, it's going to be tough to go back.

I'm already missing my G6.

I also had no issue on my G6. Screen looks great. And you can stretch the screen to fill the whole screen. It doesn't look bad at all. Don't knock it until you try it. I had zero issues with the screen on my G6

I don't see an issue with it. It is actually pretty nice.

Was it really necessary. It seems like they're running out of ideas.

I've been using my LG G6 for 9 days and don't see the difference.

My problem is noticing text doesn't go all the way to edge like it does on the S7 Edge. This just makes everything even more condensed if it wasn't already too condensed already.

After playing some games and watching some videos on the new phone at Best buy. I really like it. And the Note 8 will follow suit. This is the next thing. Better just get used to it.

They stretched the screen over the bezel, not like they stretched it but still maintain the bezel. It's just better use of useless space? Why unhappy about it?

The ".5" means that it's slightly longer than 2:1. And I'm happy with it, including the rounded corners, though I don't watch a lot of videos on a phone anyway.

Personally I think that the curved edges are more annoying for videos and games than black bars would be.

It's going to be the trend everybody is going to do. By this time next year anyone that does not have something close to that aspect ratio will be out of date.
