Is anybody else unhappy with 18.5:9 aspect ratio?

I already gotten used to it from my G6. Well I've also got a 3440X1440P monitor too so I'm used to the weird widescreen. Be aware it'll be weird looking at the side black bars when you're watching 16X9 videos the first few times.

Don't you mean 37:18? Aspect ratios are supposed to be composed of integers. Of course no one can comprehend the actual aspect ratio, so they cheat.

I don't like it but that could potentially change. I do think the Note 8 will have the same thing.

Third trip to BB to get more handle time while I wait for full reviews on them come away with more to think about and still undecided which way to go and due to the ratio.

Last visit I was leaning toward the smaller S but today the S+ but both feel a compromise...

Initially I thought I don't want to go too big so the height in the S for me is perfect but the phone is as wide as my iPhone 6 and wanted wider. The S+ is the same width as the S7 Edge which is I find perfect but I dont really want a phone as tall as an iPhone 7 Plus. But today I left liking how things on the S8 Plus like keyboard looked more spacious on the wider screen and seems easier on the eyes that way.

Last week I was able to accept a squished screen in preference of height. Today I'm trying to accept the height to get the wider look and the ratio looks better on the Plus over the S. Reach to FPS on Plus is definitely worse.

Honestly my perfect S8 would have the height of the smaller S with the width of the S8 Plus. :/

On way out the store I handled G6 and honestly the 2:1 ratio looked much more balanced and felt close to what I want. But compromise on that too like what seems to be weaker camera than the S8.

Compromises :/

The same thing happened to me today I finally got a chance to handle them and I want the S8+ width with S8 height, but we can't have it that way so now leaning to S8+ but already ordered S8

Did you change the font size? It looks pretty small on the S8+.

I was thinking that too when looking at the pics. I took the pics more for physical size difference and you can see a difference how the spacing looks between keyboards. But my BB had about a dozen S8s and I was going back and forth handling each comparing size, colors and playing with display/font settings so I didn't check font size with these two.

All in all they look good. I can't wait for them to start shipping.

I like it.. and I'm willing to bet the Note8 will also have at least 18:9 ratio. Like everyone said, this is the trend. I have a feeling that one of the iPhone iterations this year will also be 18:9.

I don't like while it playing the videos. The black bar on both the sides. Now we need some fix!!!!!

I was going to buy S8 but now I'm actually going to wait for Note 8. Stretching screen like that is like cheating in my opinion. What am I going to get for games and video black side bars?

Uncle Tera

Believe it or not, there was a stage when all TV & Cinema screens had a 4:3 aspect ratio - or there about, and then they made the move to 16:9 (which we use today) :) Im not saying that 18.5:9 will become the new standard but it at least provides the possibility of wider content which is nice. All depends on content creators and what they want to do.

I personally don't mind the pillar boxing on my smartphone screen since i regularly have letterboxing on my laptop when watching movies. :)

I think most games will automatically stretch to fit the size of the screen and hopefully most Apps will do the same. Embrace the change! :D

I'm probably in the minority, have the G6 currently but every time I pick up my Pixel or iPhone 7 plus I'm liking them more. Still not getting used to the much narrow screen and tall. Wondering how I feel after I get the S8+ which is even more taller

You can stretch it to become full screen..some reviewers have said it actually makes playing games better because you have more screen and more space

Oh goodie.... Then we shouldn't see any more posts from you complaining about what this phone is not. Please redirect yourself to the note 8 forums and begin the same process of nit-picking another phone and why the company doesn't deserve your money.

If I'm not mistaken... You can pinch to zoom in/out in SMS... Historically I've reduced the font to the smallest size... As I approach 40 years old... I'm somewhere in the middle with the font size.

I had to laugh out loud at this text... They agree on a time then the lady says she'll be late. Referring to the pictures of the screens side by side.
