AC Question

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 64GB from Sprint (model SM-G920P), recently received an Android 6.0.1/Marshmallow update. Since receiving update, I'm having problems typing messages using the stock Samsung keyboard with Email. Whenever I type a symbol (punctuation or emoji) followed by a character (letter or number), the character is replaced by another copy of the last symbol. Example: I type 1:30am but what displays is 1::0am. Now if I back out the last repeated colon and type in a 3, I still get 1::0am again. If I back out both colons and just enter a 3, I get 110am (it repeats the character that was in front of the colon. If I type 1: space 30am, I get 1: 30am. I can then back out the extra space, but if I then type any character other than a space after the 1:30am, I get 1:330am and lose the last character. This happens with any symbol followed by a character. So I can't type times, contractions, or decimal numbers just to name a few... Emojis act differently, an emoji follow by a character results in emoji-character-emoji (repeated). Turning off "Predictive text" feature and the problems go away, but now I don't get any suggestions or spelling checks... This only happen in the body of an email, To, Cc, Subject fields aren't a problem, nor is Text messaging or Internet browsing/searching.

I have this same problem on my s7edge. Just started on 10/20/16. Only happens in stock email using stock Samsung keyboard . I switched to Google keyboard and no problem. But, I want to use stock keyboard. Any fixes?

Used Samsung smart switch for pc to back up my phone to my pc. Reset phone to factory settings. Then used smart switch to restore data back to my phone. Issue resolved

I originally posted this question. There's also another similar question on the forum about typing issues. A reply to that question from CFLSHAWN suggests uninstalling Android System WebView update. I used Application manager and Disabled Android System WebView, defaulting to the original factory version. Now my keyboard is working again. Don't know how important WebView update version 49.0.2623.105 is, appears to work in conjunction with Chrome apps. We'll see.

Thank you for this. It's been bugging me for a few days. Double punctuation is what I was searching for, trying to outsmart the Internet. I just disabled Android System WebView with a version of 54.0.2840.68 and that made that version number MUCH easier to type.

Rather than a solution, I found a workaround: I keep pressing the number I want after the colon for more time than normal so as to see the number typed. I type '1', '0', ':',long press '3', long press '0', to get 10:30

A Verizon GS7 Edge Marshmallow user here. Reverting the Android System Web View back to factory settings fixed mine too. Factory was version 50.x.x.x. Wow that was really annoying.
