Is anyone on Project Fi yet?

Anyone in the DC area receive an invite yet?

How long have you had GMAIL accounts? Perhaps the longevity has something to do with it?

FYI...Ive had a Gmail account since the days (mid 2000s) when they were issuing invites for a Gmail

I also had to have an invite for my Gmail account. When was that, 2004? I requested the Project Fi invite on April 22, and I received the invite on May 19. I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

I had to go onto a forum to "pay" for an invite back when gmail first went into beta. (I also signed up for a project Fi in the first 30 minutes after the announcement on April 22) so I don't think that longevity with email has much to do with the invites for Project Fi.

Yep, got my invite and I'm on Fi:
  • Applied for the invite April 22
  • Got the invite May 27
  • Ordered the Fi SIM from Google and a Nexus 6 from Motorola May 27
  • Received the SIM and Nexus 6 Jun 01 and activated on Fi that PM

I'm in Southeast Loudoun County, VA, just Southwest of South Riding.

How"s it been working so far? Especially interested in group messaging.

Don't do group messaging at all, so I have no idea how it works ....

I'm a prime customer for Fi - work at home so the vast majority of my day is on my home Wi-Fi - and I don't spend a lot of time on my phone at home or away anyway, so, so far I've had no real issues. In addition, I was on T-Mobile previously but on the edge of the burbs/rural boudary so I was too far from the nearest T-Mobile tower to get a decent signal at home. Now, with Fi I get a solid LTE signal around home - because, AFAIK, the nearest tower to me is a "Sprint" tower - so I'm enjoying the better cell coverage after my home Wi-Fi drops away.

Only issues I've had so far have been Hangouts-related (I'm using Hangouts for SMS, despite the fact that Google recommends not using it because it currently doesn't support group messaging on Fi):
  • If you have Hangouts running on the desktop, it apparently intercepts incoming calls and the phone doesn't see them - I encountered this and un-installed the Chrome Hangouts extension to prevent it (I can't even "pick up" incoming calls on my desktop right now, as I don't have a Web cam or even a mic plugged in)
  • I had a burst of confusing Hangouts chat/SMS messages from people I don't know appear the first few days. I blocked them, and it hasn't happened since - it may have been because I had Fi assign me a new number and I inherited someone's old number that had "gone zombie" in some of their friends contact lists ...

Let me understand this - you can't have Hangouts running in your Chrome browser on yr desktop and still receive phone calls on yr Nexus/Fi?

Isn't that one of the supposed advantages of what Fi is supposed to offer?

Next question: any issues with Bluetooth on yr phone (Hangouts on "normal" Android phones doesn't support BT)?

The desktop Hangouts issue is a bug, acknowledged by Google - see the recent "Incoming Calls Issue: Project Fi + Google Hangouts" thread in this forum on just this issue.

No issues with Bluetooth in general on any of my phones, ever, when running Hangouts - I'm running a BT Moto 360 watch, a FitBit One, and a connection with my Chevy Volt from this Nexus 6 and did the same previously on my Moto X 2014. If you're asking about using Fi and Hangouts with BT headsets or other BT telephone accessories, I don't know - I don't have a BT headset and I haven't even taken a phone call in my car since I've been on Fi.

Saint Louis MO, activated project Fi with a google number two days ago, wanted to keep my Verizon service while I checked out Fi with the Nexus 6, after one day... ported my Verizon phone over to the Nexus 6. I am totally amazed with this new phone. Verizon has excellent service in my area, better than any of the others I've tried over the years but this new Fi / Nexus 6 blows Verizon away! Big-Time!. I took this Fi/Nexus 6 to the few spots where I could not get service on my Verizon phone and it worked perfectly, my girlfriend said the connection sounded perfect. I'm still in shock with this phone, I just can't believe how well it works! I'll never change to anything else! (That's how I feel at the moment anyway) Google's phone support is absolutely terrific too, I've talked to them probably 4 or 5 times. Each support the person speaks standard English language as spoken by educated people, young kids who know all the 'basics' of the phone, gmail etc. I can't say enough good stuff about it, the whole thing has been a huge Win for me!

So as I understand I can't use PC hangouts and phone at the same time? When are they planning on solving the problem, I use both almost every day.

You can, I do. It's just sometimes your device device doesn't get the notifications if your PC receives the notify. Your device receives things fine, just minus the notify, some times. For example with SMS, your PC will receive the SMS and you will see the notification, my Nexus will be 50/50 whether it sends me a notification. It always gets the SMS, just not always the SMS notification.

What's weird, I use Hangouts on my iPhone, the iPhone always receives the notifications, even if my desk sends me a notification.

I don't care much about sms, people say it rings in hangouts for phone calls and therefore you end up missing a call. Moreover, unless you log out, your phone is not going to work even when u actually don't use hangouts on PC.

It actually worked this way with sms/hangouts for a while, when I close Chrome everything gets routed to phone. Calls go both ways when using GV

Seemingly Hangouts 4.0 is just around the corner ...

For anyone asking about group messaging, there are problems if you have integrated Fi texts and voicemails into hangouts. If you want/need proper group messaging you lose the ability to get texts through hangouts. For me I'm using messenger until they fix the hangouts issues. If you do it this way, texts work just as expected.

Also service has been pretty awesome so far.

Question....If whenever I get the invite/decide to switch to Fi, I have many family as well as friends on iPhones...does MMS sent from an iPhone to Nexus 6 with Fi work correctly?
