Is anyone on Project Fi yet?

... So, now just waiting for my Fi SIM and Nexus 6 orders to arrive ....

Ordered my Project Fi SIM and a new Nexus 6 64GB from Motorola on 27 May May, received both yesterday (01 Jun) and set up the phone and activated it on Fi by 1800 EDT - told them to punt my old Google Voice number (my old Moto X 2014 is still on T-Mobile until I'm fully switched over), so now I'm up on Fi with a new number.

The new Nexus 6 is now (after TWO system updates - to 5.0.x then to 5.1) running Android 5.1 LMY47D.

I believe I'm lucky to be one of the Fi "butter zone" customers:
  • Work at home, so I'm on home Wi-Fi most of the day and never really burned a lot of cell data anyway (signed up for only $30 / 1GB data on Fi)
  • Nearest T-Mobile tower is several miles away, and I regularly lost signal on my old old Nexus 5 or get only -97dBm/8asu of EDGE (a couple of bars) of signal with Wi-Fi off on my Moto X 2014 while on T-Mobile
  • As I suspected, the nearest tower to my house is "a Sprint tower", as with Wi-Fi off I now get -100dBm/40asu (several bars) of LTE signal on the Fi network with my Nexus 6 - so, much better non-Wi-Fi cell network performance on Fi near home for me
Only unexpected thing I've noticed so far is: I had SMS in Hangouts enabled on Google Voice before I switched to Fi, but I have Messenger set as my default SMS app on my Fi Nexus 6 - as recommended on:
  • The Project Fi Tips & Tricks page
  • The Project Fi Messenger support page
  • The Project Fi Hangouts support page
Sent myself a text from my T-Mobile Moto X 2014 and it never appeared in Messenger on my Nexus 6 - checked Hangouts on the Nexus 6 (after seeing the Hangouts popup on my PC desktop) and there it was .... Might just leave things this way, make Hangouts my default SMS app, and not worry about lack of Fi MMS support in Hangouts (don't really care much about MMS or Group MMS).

My SIM kit should be delivered today. I ordered my 64GB Nexus for $550 from the Play Store last night. Can't wait to get started. I have been out of contract with Sprint since Jan 2014 using S4. Was not impressed with S5 so I waited until the S6 was announced. Then here comes Google Project Fi... I am glad I waited!

The Kansas City metro area (where I live) is a strong Sprint and TMO area, so I should be getting blazing fast Internet, wherever I go. I also like the fact that Google reimburses the cost of the unused data, because my work phone and work iPad both have Hot Spot feature. Chances are, I will rarely use the full 4GB I signed up for.

I am so jacked up about this!!!

Last Thursday I believe. Got just the SIM Kit today, was hoping for the Welcome Kit too.

Hmmm...I'm in Kansas City, on T-Mobile, have Google Fiber gigabit internet + TV, and applied within an hour or so after Google opened up applications on April 22.

I still haven't received an invitation.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

I received my invite a week ago and not sure if I should dump my Verizon plan (wife is on it too)

Very torn. Let me go review our data use

Yeah, if the wifey is on your plan..you would be a wise man to leave things alone. :-) otherwise you will be sleeping on the sofa for a while. :-)

Absolutely... Plus, the single plans are terrible with Verizon. I only get the satisfaction of removing one phone from their billing cycle. My wife refuses to leave... So my overall bill won't change much

Still waiting on invite...

Oddly i still never got the 'please keep waiting til midsummer' email, though i signed up April 24th.

I did get the original 'you're on the list!' email when i applied for an invite.

I've heard people that signed up in the past week and got the invite the next day, one being my brother. He does live in a different state but I feel that those of us who signed up early are not getting invites.

FYI...Ive had a Gmail account since the days (mid 2000s) when they were issuing invites for a Gmail

Has anyone heard of invites going to anyone in Ohio? Specifically the Cincinnati area.

... The new Nexus 6 is now (after TWO system updates - to 5.0.x then to 5.1) running Android 5.1 LMY47D. ...

A day or so later, and got another OTA to take my Motorola-purchased Nexus 6 up to Android 5.1.1 LMY47Z - so that's 3 OTAs to take my out-of-the box Nexus 6 up to "the latest".

Just got my invitation last night. Gonna go forward this weekend. Plays into my billing with T-Mobile.

Question. Since Google is using Sprint and TMO networks, I can't remember if speeds are throttled or not. Anyone here know?

Dude...its Google's agreement with Project Fi customer, they won't throttle you, because you use data that you pay for.

Yeah, I received my Nexus today and immediately got three updates. 5.01, 5.1, and 5.1.1. I went out drive during lunch to see how Fi transfers from networks... I don't notice a thing. I will be waisting gas all weekend checking this Project Fi network. :-)

Didn't think so. Just wouldn't surprise me if there are limitations and second class status line ATT Go Phone or Cricket.
