Is it just me or is the native email app atrocious?

No problem. I figure the picture would explain what I meant better and show what I meant. Seeing your picture let me know that I was very different. The icons at the top on yours is on the bottom of mine. Definitely a different layout. Oh and it isn't a bug it is a "feature". LOL Like you I would assume that there would be some way of returning to the index, strange.

I tried the stock email app for a day but I couldn't get used to it so I side loaded the Google Email app. So much better to me.

I find the email apparently way better than what Samsung has to offer but yes its slow very slow at times but hopefully LG has this set for a fix in an update.
Unfortunately no phone is perfect but this is probably the only issue I have with the G3.

i hear you, and i know you're joking - but it has to be a bug because it operates differently depending on how you get there. i'm going to dump it and try one of the other options others mentioned here.

thanks all!

So i've been trying out aqua mail since i can't take the headache of using the stock app anymore - and i really like it, but it doesn't seem like it allows push with exchange mail.
what's up with that?

gmail push works great, but no dice on my work email.

If it's an exchange account, try the one from Nine Folders. Very well done.

Sent from my Note 3

Does Nine allow you to keep the security policy on the app itself like Touchdown (vs. the entire phone like the stock email clients)?

There are slightly different views (and options) for viewing the email. One for when viewing an email from within the combined inbox and one for viewing an email from within the inbox of the specific email. One difference is, when viewing emails from within the combined inbox, you can not move or delete the email. For me, this is the biggest PIA.

Looking at both of the pictures, I am going to assume the following:

-You are looking at the email from within the inbox for that specific email account
-You only have one email account (which would explain why you don't have the back arrow)
-The other poster is looking at the email from within the combined inbox
-The other poster has multiple email accounts setup

I'm on Verizon too. On top i have the little back arrow to go to email home. On the bottom i have a bar that looks like your bar there with switch to different emails or delete, etc.. Do you have another bar on the bottom.
