Is it worth upgrading from the G2?

If your G3 is overheating, your battery life will suffer. This is what lowers battery life, heat.

To say that the G3 does not have solid battery life would be a poor opinion, if you put things in perspective.

It's not worth the switch if solid battery life and smooth performance are important to you. The G3 is a laggy, overheating mess. As far as user experience, G3 is a fail.

My G3 is neither laggy (and I came from a Nexus 5 so I have a good phone to compare to) nor prone to overheating... the ONLY time it has gotten warm was after I rebooted the thing a bunch of times in quick succession when I was fiddling with some files to try to rid myself of Carrier IQ.

And I also have no complaints about power usage. It might not be the best, but I have yet to get through a day where the battery was low enough for me to start looking for a charger early.

As far as user experience is concerned.... NO complaints

This is interesting. I've owned the N5, M8,Z2 and G3 this year. The G3s performance for me was horrible. Laggy with a lot of redraws and the thermal throttling had the max CPU speed at a low value most of the time. Compared to the other phones for me it was a poor performer. Why is there such a difference in opinion in performance? Are there differences in hardware and quality? I had one from the very first batches in the UK so maybe that's the reason, it just seems strange there's such a variance in opinion. Not trying to get at the phone and peoples opinions of it, just genuinely interested as to what's going.

Like you I had the first batch of UK stock, phones prior Nexus 5 & Note 3 and still have the Z2 and tbh mine has been fine, can't say I have noticed anything like redraws or overheating, throttling ect ect.

I'm not making it up or saying the G3 is perfect but nope nothing nada, zilchio.

I've been walking past the Carphone Warehouse the past few days considering buying another one to see if that's any better, either that or buying a Cat 6. Maybe I had a faulty one? Its really annoying because it looked and felt superb and I wanted to love it but it was just a terrible performer. :-(

Not disbelieving you and your right to share your experiences.

I'm just grateful mine has been without issue thus far (touch wood) it remains that way lol

I got mine as soon as it became available from https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mobiles.co.uk&token=W3T1uDnK and since day one as stated its been fine- (might be pushing my luck now lol) i had a bit of minor lag in the app drawer scrolling but that is now gone.

Yeah, I believe you. Just confused. I returned my G3 because of it and the shutdown bug. So now its a case of buy a Cat6 or wait for the Note 4 or buy both lol.

Hmmm yeh I'm going to check out the Note 4 out of curiosity as always and NOT addiction lol

But I suspect the Note 4 will get sold to AIF the purchase of the G4.

Yeh shame you didn't get off to a good start and it had to end lol

I know I'll end up buying the Cat6 and the Note 4,I just have to justify it in my head first (not that I can justify it,I'll just pretend I have).

If you do not care about micro sd, not really. As far as the display, I find the G2 has much better contrast and is not a resource compromising piggy like the G3s.

That said, if you are a light to medium user, the Qhd is not really a resource factor. Even the contrast is okay once used to it. You notice again though if comparing to devices with better contrast.

Jeepers that's some cash! Even just one is :)

Anandtech reports the S5 Qhd has on par battery life and performance with 1080p. They were surprised since did not expect it. They also state the new amoled tech helps some as well.

The 805 is a much better fit for Qhd. Will be interesting to see what is released this fall.

Same here I see people talking about lag and I'm like where??? Haven't had a zilch of lag on my G3, it gets warm when I'm recording 4k videos and on some game but never overheat and my battery last me easily all day between work from playing games browsing G+ Reddit and such and also music..... Guess I'm one of the lucky ones my device is awesome!!!

There must be. I have a US T-Mobile variant, possibly made later since I think it was launched later than a lot of others.

Maybe due to demand pressure they used SoCs with lower binning values more often .. Lower numbers = higher operating voltages =more heat... Maybe.

Of course, I've fussed with me a bit to make it my own, and I couldn't tell you how much effect that had... But it's pretty snappy and my temps, albeit with somewhat light to moderate usage, has bounced between 78 and 92 degrees F over the last 14 hours.

Dunno... All I know is that I gots me a good one.
