Is it worth upgrading to the S9 from the S8? Or just a spec bump?

I have an S8+ and have to say the camera improvements make the S9+ tempting but just not tempting enough

Debating myself. I like the finger print sensor location on my GS8 better aesthetically. I do not like the larger camera hump even though I am sure it is a necessity with the upgraded sensor. The only think that draws me to the GS9 is the super slow mo, and that is more a novelty (not sure how many times it would practically be used).

I am thinking it is gonna be a tough sell to s8 customers and they will be more focusing on previous generation cx and spec junkies!!!

Re: Love Samsung S9

I checked one out yesterday at Best Buy while waiting for an interview. Very nice. But I'm a Note guy and will wait for the Note 9.

Don't forget about the ram and memory bump on the s9+. I want one unlocked but not sure if it will be compatible with 4g calling/volte on EE. Which is something I've been missing on the s8+ as well as the s7 edge and the s6 edge I used prior. Anyone tried one from carphone warehouse or so?

When you guys get it can someone who used a s8 speak on the width differences and if the s9 is easier to type on? Since it's about 0.06 wider than the s8.

Thanks

That difference isn't going to make a difference in typing it.

In my opinion the bump from S8 does not justify the purchase of S9. However I do not doubt the changes in the camera might urge people to upgrade.

I just started using the Slow Mode on my GS8+ for my son's track events and I find it nice. I wonder if the Super Slow mode removes the one we currently have, which doesnt have the time limit of the new feature.

Only a spec bump? Yes. Still, may be worth it for the camera upgrade plus overall spec bumps seem to have worked out some of the smaller annoying kinks in the past. I have Samsung for life option, so I am going to use it whereas I might have skipped a generation before that...

At this point in bland yearly releases, you need to wait at least 2 years for the bump in specs is noticable.

What do you think - is the S9 simply a spec bump, or a worthwhile upgrade from the S8?

That's a question where the answer will vary from person to person. I believe that yes, it's just a spec jump -- but the spec's that jumped make it a worthwhile upgrade for me. Specifically, the improved camera, screen brightness and the stereo speakers. As for the FP reader... I'm probably one of the very very few who like the FP reader position on the S8+. It just works for me.

All that said, I won't be making the upgrade until/unless the black version becomes available in Canada. Neither the purple or light grey work for me. I don't want to risk any warranty hassles if I imported a black one from the US.

Oh well, maybe I'll wait to see what happens with the Note 9.

I've been wanting to get back into the Note family. I think I will wait until the Note 9 comes out.

I'm gonna sit tight and see what Samsung offers for incentives. Personally I didn't see enough to make me move away from the S8.
