Is preferred care worth it? (assume you have the credit card 2x warranty)

Really ticked Googles won't let you add it after the fact I probably would go back and add it.

How good are credit cards and the 2x warranty. I have bought a few items on a card to get the warranty but I have never had to use the protection. I have read of a few stories of credit card companies not honoring the protection. Just wondering if anyone here has experience using CC warranties.

Since the phone is protected from water damage I'm only worried about breaking the screen. Case and screen protector planned. If that fails, I'll pay for the repair. Given the deductible it's Worth the gamble vs the insurance savings. So I canceled my google finance order, put it on my card. It'll cost me 2 weeks more to get the phone but I'm happy with the savings and extension of the warranty

A word of caution -- the phone is water resistant, not waterproof. The IP67 rating doesn't absolutely guarantee that it will withstand water exposure, and water damage almost certainly won't be covered under warranty (just like all other phones that carry an IP rating).

I didn't buy it this time. I've never broken a phone but I did have my 6P replaced because of the battery. But at $229 to replace the phone in 15 months, assuming that the Pixel 2XLs battery is as bad as the 6Ps, I'm not sure it's worth it. The alternative at that time would be to buy a Pixel 3XL which would be more money but would also be a more advanced phone.

Does the Pixel warranty cover water damage?

Let's say you buy the Pixel 2 XL and keep it for a year and pay the 129 dollars for insurance. The new Galaxy S9 or Essential 2 comes out and you decide to switch phones. You decide hey I cannot afford to spend 700+ dollars on a new phone, what are you to do. Well if there is not a good trade in option you could always sell it on Swappa.

I have had great success selling my phones on Swappa and the real advantage is being able to transfer the insurance to the new owner. It gives them peace of mind and makes your phone more valuable to the buyers. With this phone getting 3 years of updates and security patches it will maintain a higher value in a year IMO.

Save your box, put your phone in a good case, and buy the warranty.

Just to be clear -- the manufacturer's warranty (which you don't have to pay for) covers manufacturer's defects, not accidental damage or water damage. The Preferred Care insurance (which you do have to pay for) does cover accidental and water damage.
