Is RCS for Messages working for you?

Thank you! I understand now I'm Samsung unlocked so I'll get Google messages again. But I definitely share need the carrier app too? Guess if it don't work I'll know to get that. But I started thinking not sure if it's worth an there trouble now that I think about it. Not sure our if the few people I do text if they have it. But I do want to try it so I'll tell my husband to do it also. Thanks Again!
Yes download Carrier services app also .
Your welcome ! test it out , you do get Better quality pictures and video not just typing indicator and read receipts.

Oh really I didn't know that about pictures and video. Thanks!

Glad I found this thread. Wife just got the S10 on Verizon. Thought it would be available but it says it's not. I clicked it again and the options were there but once I clicked out, it was gone. Very confusing. I have a 3XL and have been using it but would like hers to be available. Guess it's not just her having that issue. Hoping it becomes available soon

I hadn't thought of it or remembered until I saw djm1947's comment, but I've been using it with the Beta version for probably a little over a month. Guess I should say I'm on Verizon. I had been seeing people comment in a handful of threads that Verizon phones keep saying it isn't available but then I'm like I have Verizon...? Oh yeah, I'm also using the Beta version of Messages. Totally forgot about all of that. Anyway I'll post the link to the video again if your device says your carrier doesn't support it these steps should get you around that... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=RL3c4WkWfxY&usg=AOvVaw3Jwz8ZcKVUb5X4XvoYydxM

Okay so I got it to work and I see chat features but it says it's still trying to verify my phone number. It says setting up! But anyway I'll use this for a little while and then if I really like it I'll uninstall Textra I guess I don't need textta on here if I'm using this one. all I care about is having different tones for people and having them stay when I delete the conversation. Which I was told it does. Thanks Everyone! On Textra I had a different pop up icon for people for when my phone is silenced at work can you do that with Google Messages I didn't see that option. Or can you change the background colors or text bubbles like other apps.

Edit: It's still trying to verify my phone for chat features to work it says. Maybe I'll uninstall and reinstall I don't know. OK now it says connected. I uninstalled both and reinstalled. So I'm good and will set it up now for contacts. Thanks Again!

Not sure if it's working because I was under the impression that it requires Google Carrier services app to work.?

I had adb uninstalled carrier services from my device , yet on the last update of Google Messages app ,it claims chat features are enabled? LolScreenshot_20191217_152943.jpgScreenshot_20191217_153023.jpgScreenshot_20191217_152624_com.android.vending.jpg

You should be good to go. I don't think you need Google Carrier Services bc on my TMO S10+ that has RCS enabled I don't have Carrier Services installed on my phone at all.

With my Samsung devices I never needed carrier services either on T-Mobile USA . However, doesn't the Samsung messenger use TMobile rcs protocol? You'll probably find that you're not using Google's RCS. Hopefully someone else will chime in to explain further.

I believe the carrier services installation was only required if you were doing the beta hack. Installing the beta version and enabling it manually etc etc etc. I think Verizon customers still have to do this, because otherwise it says carrier not supported or something, but many others only have to have the latest Google Messages version.

Yes, you're right . I used adb to uninstall Carrier Services and it appears to still be working. Ironically, the only person that shows as a "chat" feature in my text messages history is in a foreign country. All others simply show as TMobile Text.

Does google messages no longer appear under battery optimization? Meaning one can't change it's optimization value.Screenshot_20191220_121038_com.android.settings.jpg

I believe when it's chosen for default text it won't be
I just installed Signal and set it up as my default messaging app. Google messages still didn't show up under battery optimization menu. Could it be because google messages was a pre installed app on my device?

Usually message apps won't be under optimize from what I've seen on my phones

Probably I'm confusing Samsung messages when I removed it from optimization in the past on a galaxy device.
Possible..

Edit: google you can optimized but wouldn't, Samsung I dont see

On my note 10+ cant its greyed out
On my 1+7 pro you can

Ok, I just didn't like the idea of messages always running in the background. I've uninstalled updates for it.
