Is RCS for Messages working for you?

Google Messages updated for me a couple days ago and now I have a Connected status in Chat features. No one I know has RCS yet so I haven't had the chance to try it.

So if i get my husband to download Google Messages and were both unlocked and on Verizon it will work or do we need Verizon Messages or is it not for unlocked? Sorry I'm still a little confused about it all. Thanks!

Yes, if both you and your husband download Android Messages it should work and won't need to use Verizon Messages. If it doesn't work (it's been slowly rolling out) you can try and update Google Carrier Services (or download from play store if not installed on your phones) and should work immediately. Yes, if both you and your husband download Android Messages it should work and won't need to use Verizon Messages. If it doesn't work (it's been slowly rolling out) you can try and update Google Carrier Services (or download from play store if not installed on your phones) and should work immediately. Thanks! It said chat features are unavailable for this device so I uninstalled and will go back to Textra for now. I just went to play store and I see Google Carrier Services and it says install so do I need that in order for it to work? Don't want to download it and have it mess up anything on my phone. It has lots of bad reviews on the play store about all the permissions and not letting you uninstall it I don't know i'm leary about getting it. My one friend uses Verizon messages I think on her phone will that work without having to get the carrier thing but i'm unlocked she's not.

So it worked for like a day for me then stopped. Not sure why. It was great texting my buddy with it for the short time. Guess Google still has some bugs.

Make sure message and carriers service apps are latest versions and you can just use activity launcher to trigger it once and then delete that app.

Just did that and now they are back. I also think it had to do with Medium Power mode restricting background usage. Havent tried to replicate it but that might be a thing as well.

So should I try again and download Google Messages and that carrier thing which isn't already on my phone? My friend uses the Verizon messaging app but she's not unlocked like me. I just want to try the RCS and wasn't sure about downloading the carrier thing and I uninstalled Google Messages but may try it again. I use Textra now mainly because of the text tones for different people they don't go away when you delete a conversation. How is it in Google Messages? I forgot what someone said a while back if it will work for me on unlocked with downloading the Verizon messages or if i need Google plus the carrier if so I guess I could try it.

Definitely give it a try , you can do the same change each person a different tone. I keep mine same notification for all.

Ok thanks! I was just leary about the carrier thing and I think just my friend who has an S10 Verizon brand uses Verizon messages. I don't text much I use FB Messenger but I do want to try this out. So me being unlocked i need the Google one not Verizon correct? I just want to make sure I know I've been told before and i can't remember sorry.

I don't want RCS. I don't want a messaging system that cannot be backed-up then restored after factory reset or device replacement.

I use SyncTech Pty Ltd's SMS Backup & Restore utility every night to save my SMS/MMS messages to my Google Drive. If I need to replace my phone I can restore my entire SMS/MMS history compete with picture attachments.

Google's cloud will automatically back up the text of SMS/MMS messaging, but will not back up and restore the picture attachments. Google Pixel Support suggests we can extract the pictures from the messages, save them to the photo gallery and Google cloud will back them up from there, but it is not acceptable to lose the context of those pictures in our conversations.

When will RCS backup/restore be supported by Google or a third party app? If you adopt RCS before backup/restore support is available you're saying it's okay to lose your messaging history whenever disaster strikes.

Yes Samsung unlocked only google message for RCS , if you carrier unlock you can use both Samsung message app should have RCS ...Google RCS will work regardless.

Mustang have you gotten it to work on your 7 pro? I just got my unlocked version direct from OnePlus and it worked for about five minutes. I have tried using the work around and without.

Yes ,it's working without the work around, check see if message app and carriers app needs a update

Did you get a dual SIM holder for yours after flashing the international firmware? I thought someone posted it was not working on a dual SIM phone although it works on my Pixel 3

I did get the dual , I have one sim in it now , I have to check tommorow for the other sim if it works but for one yes

Thank you! I understand now I'm Samsung unlocked so I'll get Google messages again. But I definitely share need the carrier app too? Guess if it don't work I'll know to get that. But I started thinking not sure if it's worth an there trouble now that I think about it. Not sure our if the few people I do text if they have it. But I do want to try it so I'll tell my husband to do it also. Thanks Again!
