Is the note 4 done with software updates?

Ever since Verizon released the 5.1.1 update for the note 4, I've been wondering if they, or any of the other US carriers are planning on further supporting the note 4 with software updates, or at the very least, security patches.

The Note 4 is slated for Marshmallow. That'll probably be the last major update.

It's due for the update next month on sprint

I read that we owners of the Note4 are going to get a new upgrade very soon, but still Lollipop. Anyway we will receive Marshmallow, but probably we are going to wait another couple of months. Unfortunately!

Does anyone know if marshmellow will support all the features in the premium camera apps, particularly shutter priority and RAW ? I was hoping 5.1 would but no such luck.

Rumor has it that Verizon Note 4's get Marshhmallow next month. Don't remember where I heard that, but it sounded legit.

Everyone always hears rumors that "next month" is the time frame. They usually hear those rumors for 8-10 months.

I have to laugh (at myself) because I am still on 4.4.4! I have been holding off Lollipop since last year!

LOL yup. If one likes getting updates regularly, a Nexus or iOS device is the way to go.

Nothing wrong with staying on an older system if it works for you.

Been on Kit Kat since I've gotten the phone but man Android N has a lot of cool features will for sure flash another simple rom when that hits.

Why are you laughing at yourself? You're not alone. I think Kitkat is awesome, myself. No troubles, no problems, nothing missing or changed for the worse. Like Mute for instance, changing to Do not disturb, or all that white blindness! I don't know, personally I see no reason to upgrade. By all intents and purposes, Kitkat only seems old because it's not the latest. I'm not even tempted with LP or MM.

My friend is a tech solutions manager at vzw. He said next month marshmallow will be released for the note 4. But from his understanding it won't be the marshmallow you see on the s7 or s7 edge.

Thank you for stating all the reasons I too feel! I said laughing at myself mainly so no one who has upgraded felt I was putting them down for it. Yes, we all do what we are comfortable doing and not doing. I agree with every point you made for not leaving kit Kat! In the past I have always upgraded. I just didn't like all the issues I was hearing about Lollipop. And to this day many of those issues or should we say 'changes' haven't been changed or corrected. My Note 4 on KitKat works perfectly and I love it. I'm just starting to feel it will get too far behind, outdated and Un-supported. I skipped the Note 5 due to no removable battery/no SD card slot.

My husband got a Note 4 long after I did and his had Lollipop factory installed and so he never knew the difference. He isn't into tech and doesn't utilize the phone like I do.

I was running Kitkat on my Note 4 and Note Edge up until January when I bought a Note 5. Once I saw how great Lollipop was running on it, I upgraded the Note 4/Note Edge to Lollipop and haven;t been disappointed.

I originally tired out Lollipop on both of those phones when it was released on T-Mobile last April but immediately went back to Kitkat.

The only phone that I could never get to run decent enough was the Nexus 4. So many people couldn't either and went back to KitKat on it as well.

Thank you for that great information/experience. Something to consider. I do like some of the Lollipop features, but also don't like that certain features were removed. I also think that phones that came with it factory installed to begin with, seem to run it better than those that did not and receive a pushed update. I could be totally wrong, but just what I have experienced over the years with other phones.

I don't know what carrier you're on, but there's a "safe upgrade" to LP 5.1.1 for Verizon Note 4's, (SM-910V), where you can try LP, and if you don't like it, you can Odin back to Kitkat. Developer hsbadr has posted THIS on XDA forum. (Somehow, I knew he was going to tackle this, and hopefully he'll also do one for Marshmallow). If you plan to try it, please read the entire post before doing so. If you have questions, ask them in that thread before proceeding. I'm just posting info here for people who are still on Kitkat, but want to try LP. I take no responsibility if you mess up your phone!

NOTE: This safe upgrade only applies to Verizon Note 4, SM-910V. Do not attempt this if you're on a different carrier.

I'm on Verizon myself, and while I won't flash LP, I still like that I have options! :)
